A base model is best for daily. Lots of cargo space. Pretty good MPG., performance axle option will be less but slightly quicker. Stay away from F51 suspensions, they are expensive to repair. You may want an auto if getting driven in traffic often.
GREAT advice bro!! So many people leave out the fact that you must learn to read the surface level of bumps, speed bumps, driveway entrances etc. Its a very involved driving experience..Dont forget paper bags and other debris in the roads!👊🏾👍🏾

@@CadillacJones Probably do a standard C5 to daily. It wouldn't need to be the highest performing vehicle, just quick enough to be fun and handle well on a daily driver basis. The C5 is mechanically robust, and my commute it relatively short at 22 miles. I am considering a C5 to daily because I love the look, they are tough, and with a few mods it can hold its own in the freeway on/off ramp grand prix, and I basically know how to do all the work on the car myself from the experience I have wrenching on my Z. Besides, the daily could start getting the hand-me-down parts from the Z as I upgrade it in the future, cutting parts costs for the daily.

I have a daily reminder that the front ground clearance is 3.5” while using it as a daily. Hands down most concerning aspect of driving it daily imho. but the only way to get better is to drive it more 😎
@@CadillacJones yeah I’ve been mia, my z0 has been in and out of the shop for a minute. Ended up needing midpipe replacement and faced tough decision on upgrade but kept stock. Yeah the length of the hood makes it difficult to go through drive thru windows at banks and fast food places that are curbed. Trucks with that prob can just hop em, but not with our ground clearance...seems to be a recurring theme lol

I’m 6’3 /260lbs and I daily’d a c5 for 10 years. 7 of which were in SoCal. So the top only went on when it was parked. Much easier to get in and out of a coupe with the top off. My FRC on the other hand was a bit less friendly for swooping my big self in and out. Still wasn’t an issue. You get used to ducking and tucking.
@@CadillacJones I had a 99 FRC with the Z51 suspension and a 99 silver coupe with the same suspension. So like for like was similar but the FRC was more nimble and felt tighter. My black 99 coupe has the magnetic suspension which I’ve actually come to enjoy. Until it’s time to replace the system/shocks. I will likely do a system delete and coil over conversion. As far as interior differences I prefer getting in and out of the coupes, especially with the targa removed. Also prefer the sport seats over standard seats any day of the week.
You’re right. The body is fiberglass but the frame is steel and will rust if exposed to excessive amounts of road salt. Unless you neutralize the salt off your frame.
It really does add up if you need work. Just dropped my new c5 off at the dealer today and it’ll be a 6k bill! Had to replace a bunch of aged seals, decided to swap out all fluids etc. it’s a big list of small refresh stuff. The techs keep telling me how clean of a example I have is lol age can cost money lol but after this it should basically be like a new car lol
Just purchased a C5 myself yesterday. I'm 6'1" long legs (AT), it fits really well for a tall guy. Just getting used to it. Sometimes I'll pull the steering wheel up to get in and than get adjusted. Maybe at some point I'll get a detachable steering wheel. Could be easier to get in as well. Actually, the first time I banged my hip into the the center console, Lol. Just picked up a 2004 machine silver Z06 with 40,000 miles. Love the car, but I’m glad I don’t daily it. My 2019 ram is way more comfortable to drive and I can hit all the potholes I want lol.
@@CadillacJones I was shaking a little after my first drive in the car. My uncle (previous owners son) sold me the car and he was kind enough to drive the car home for me. Once a few hours had passed by I decided id drive to the gas station. I have driven forklifts and tractors with manual gearboxes and have seen tons of youtube videos so I knew the basics, but I wasn't very good with taking off smoothly.
I am semi truck driver, so my situation with my future c5 z06. Would be, basically driving back and forth to work and home. I'm out on the road for about a week or so and back home. So yeah, i don't know if that's daily or not. But that's how I'll drive it back and forth to work.

Aye what’s up bro I know is been a while that you uploaded the video but do you think it’s worst that daily drive a challenger I got the 5.7 that requires the 91 octane so gas is not really something that I’m worried about or not having space for more than two persons
Another rid bit to add for those intending to daily a C5...the stock headlights absolutely suck for night driving. The car is so low and the beam projection so weak that I drove with my high beams on at all times for years. Not one oncoming driver ever flashed me to turn my highs off. So that just helps support my perspective on how bad they are. Lighting upgrade for night time driving is 100% reccomended.
I personally would not daily my C6 corvette mainly because the car is over sixteen years old and since I own a 2019 jeep with less than 10,000 miles the corvette is just for fun and for show
93 octane if it’s an option. 91 if that’s the best you can do. 87 is for Wranglers and should never go in a C5 in my opinion. Screw that owners manual. ;) Plus the lower octane and cheaper fuels will make your gas gauge go haywire from the sulfur buildup on the floats in the gas tanks.

@@CadillacJones wait until you go FI on that baby…and the new intercooler sits even lower, plus the added 65 lbs up front,. You’’ll scrape the front lower spoiler air dam over EVERY single ripple and uneven road. Even when driving slowly and taking angles.
@@CadillacJones I'll have to measure it to confirm but it's noticeably lower in the front. I scrape coming out of my garage now which did not happen for the 12 years I've lived in the house with the car. I even raised front tire psi up some to reduce the scrapage but it didn't have an impact. So I went back to reccomended tire psi. Disclaimer: my car is lowered on stock bolts. So it's not at stock settings. None the less the intercooler still sits lower in the nose.
@@CadillacJones Think it is mainly the lines… It will eat them. But they sell injectors for Flex Fuel yes. Stock fuel pump should be fine I would think.
@@CadillacJones It seems to be more of a lengthy process than I realized to convert to the system with the intention of running it that way primarily or all the time. But I think with just a few of the modifications you could run a quarter to half tank through it now and then with a tune to get a bit more pep on track days ect’ without causing any damage.

I can only imagine you in an FRC. I'm sure the drive was worth it. Could you tell the difference in driveability between the FRC and coupe?

I have a base model automatic so no bs $2k clutch worries and no electronics that will fail along the way. Perfect for back and forth to work

Frame is aluminum. No steel except nuts and bolts
@@christianrath5698 No, the frame on the C5 Z06 is hydroformed steel. The C6 Z06 was the first production Corvette that had an aluminum frame.

What does AT mean?
Never use the steering wheel to enter or exit your C5.

I have 2004 convertible black on black 6 speed I have several cars but I have driven my car on daily basis no problems

You're right. The car is so low that people don't realize it's the high beams. It's not like some cars or trucks that are eye level to us.

I haven't. We don't have too many E stations out here. Is it injectors and tune? Maybe a new pump?
