I am a 48 yr old American male. Paddington 2 is the exact type of movie I wish would flood this country. A real hero with real impact upon the people around him. And a villain that is completely human and still just plain wrong.
One of my favourite things about these movies, is that the original books were pretty nakedly about the evacuation of British children from major cities during WWII. Often with little more than a name tag and a suitcase, 3.5 million people, mostly children, were evacuated. They were usually separated from their parents and taken in by complete strangers. By taking this event, of which most Britons are justifiably proud, and tying it to the plight of foreign children, who need a home and safe harbour, Paddington makes this deft and persuasive political point. My own grandfather may not have survived the war had he not been taken in and kept safe from Nazi aerial bombing during the blitz, and to see rich countries turn away children who face the same threat, it's abhorrent.
Well said, Alex: completely agree. We are proud of the evacuation efforts conducted in WW2, and there are millions of us who are horrified by the continued rise of anti-immigrant hysteria here in Britain in the 21st century.
@@IkeOkerekeNews I’m American and we’ve got our own anti-Immigrant stuff going that I’m really not a fan of either. My original comment was also made when ICE and the kid cages stuff was just hitting the news.

I just saw paddington 1 a week ago and absolutely loved it. I am from costa rica and this is one of the most wholesome movies i have seen. I will check out that bunny
I love when your parents show up in an episode. Let’s have a video “Patrick’s Parents and Why They’re Great” except that concept is probably too awesome.
Your Mom is so adorable. She and your Dad act so clueless most of the time but the way her face lights up when you mention Paddington is priceless! I actually ended up buying the movies because of your review.
There is so much clever stuff in this! My favourite is how you switch to tea (a tea totaller) after an intervention, which is a British thing, and you review a British film. And in the end, it's your dad who starts drinking
Your parents absolutely killed it in this one, and the punchline might be the most clever joke I've ever seen in your videos. I'm loving this new format. Keep up the great work.
When ever people ask me what my favorite movie of 2017 is, they always expect me to say Star wars or a Marvel film. But the answers is in fact Paddington 2, most the time they think i'm joking because i'm such a film buff going to see every new release, but that's the honest answer. Such an amazing movie.
xXMinniNinJaXx same (but 2018 for me because I just saw it recently), people think I'm being sarcastic but I genuinely think it's one of the best sequels in recent years.
Paddington 2 (since it came out here in January) totally deserves a favorite film of the year. Mine was Baby Driver for last year. Paddington 2 was fantastic and beautiful.
My son, a movie buff, ran the kitchen at Skinners Guildhall where some of the scenes were shot and so bumped in to Jim Broadbent and others in the cast. He was soooo star struck.
As a Brit, I love these movies. What, I’m partial to movies of my nationality. I also love the magical feel of this movie. It presents London as this delightfully offbeat place, just filled to the brim with all these quirky characters played by great British actors and/or comedians. Films like these are... well British. You can see this film... and you’ll think Britain. To that effect, it’s to kids movies what Good Omens is to comedy, which was built off Christianity, but it’s really just religiously English.
It's a retcon. The mom from previous episodes wanted too much money, so they replaced her with a new mom and used the opportunity to develop the mom character's backstory by making her Irish.
This entire video is just so precious to me, even as someone who has never seen the Paddington movies. I recently spent a semester in England and everything about this just brought back good happy memories of my time there, so thank you for making this. I think now I’ll have to go find these movies in America. Also, please make sure your mom knows she is an absolute delight and an all around gem
Update: I just watched the first Paddington movie and it's just so good and pure and happy. Thank you for doing this episode because it got me to watch this movie and my life is better for it

One of my favourite memories of visiting the UK was when I stumbled upon Paddington Station and the Paddington statue. Thank you SO much for making this video on Paddington! I remember watching the Nelvana animated series and the stop-motion animated series as a child, and I think the two Paddington films are a heartfelt adaptation that keeps in the spirit of the original books.
I've never seen these movies before. I wrote them off for the exact reasons you described at the beginning of your video. I will now add them to my list of films to watch. Thanks Patrick!
The pop-up-book animations are a nod to the animated tv series of Paddington that aired on British tv from 1976-1980, narrated by Michael Hordern. It had a really distinctive style, and is much-loved.

Not only did the Paddington movies bring tears to my eyes, but this video about the Paddington movies brought tears to my eyes as well. Damn well done, thank you!
You've put your finger on why I like the Paddington movies so much (well, that and the fact that I've loved the character since they ran the shorts on Nickelodeon's Pinwheel)...unlike so many other kids'/family movies, they don't try to be self-consciously KEWL. (The Peanuts movie is the same, despite a pop song or two being in there.)
I just watched these movies for the first time last week and I cannot believe how good they are. I do also have the original Paddington book and plushie. Great video as always 👏🏼

All of the characters have a brilliant dynamic that you RARELY see in kids films or really anything nowadays so it's really BRILLIANT that something like Paddington exists for children and adults. I've always been "Oh, Paddington's movies are for kids, but I surprisingly never heard bad thing about them". Now I know why. Your parents are great actors, wow!
I haven't seen the Paddington films, but fondly remember the 1970s TV series. Those bits with the pop-up book look like a nod to the TV show, in that Paddington himself was an animated furry model bear, but all the human characters were animated cardboard cut-outs that looked like they had come from a pop-up book, and the backgrounds were done in similar style.
I never gave this movie more than a passing glance but you've encouraged me to watch it, and you're absolutely right! So good! It's endearing and charming and funny. It'll definitely be a movie I purchase. Thanks.

I am British, allow me to explain the coconut thing: In British funfairs we have these things called a Coconut Shy - You get a couple balls and you throw them at coconuts to try and knock them down, for the chance of winning a goldfish or something. We do not throw coconuts around, don't be daft.
Funnily enough I once won a huge bear the size of Paddington bear, at a coconut shy, when I was a kid. It was because I managed to crack the coconut, which was harder than just knocking it off, and you got a better prize if you did that. I've no idea where that bear has gone, but it was 20+ years ago now.

Great video. The animated sequences are equally a reference to the original TV series it’s based on, where Paddington was a stopmotion animated puppet, and everyone else including the world he’s in is 2D sort of, stopmotion animated drawings.
Perfect! The only thing I have to add is Simon Farnaby, who plays THAT guard and co-wrote the 2nd film. Also one of the comedy-heroes of any child who grew up watching CBBC in 2000's.

She is very sweet, though I imagine she has a touch of the Mrs Doyle about her when it comes to tea!

We were going to go and watch Infinity War this afternoon... but now we just want to watch both Paddington films! This is such a delightful video!
You should check out Infinity War as well. The extreme opposite but extremely good
Paddington bear is my shit. I know the movies are for kids but I think they teach children good lessons.
"Paddington Bear is my shit" :D
I don't think he would like this language tho
i don't think they're just "for kids". I went to the cinema for the second one and I think I was the one who laughed the loudest ... and I'm 27! XD
They're definitely not just "for kids", they're "family films": i.e., for the whole family
I'm middle aged, and I dimly remember Paddington. I have, since those days, always had a fondness for marmalade.
