I now have a set or basic carbide including round, square and diamond point detail-er. I love how you use them both in this project! Using both gives me hope! While I am equally passionate at this point in turning natural edge and epoxy, I need to find my groove. I am so glad I found your channel like and new subscriber. I have found conflicting advice on if I can turn resin with only vacuum chamber or pressure chamber or if I need both. Please share your thoughts as I look forward to your guidance... no pressure lol. I would also welcome any advice from your subscribers.

My wife just came from dinner with a recently widowed friend tonight. Her husband was a woodworker, her asking if she knew anyone wanting a large turning machine. Never done it, but my hand went up. Shit!
Why stabilize with resin just to pour more resin around it. It would’ve been just fine maybe even better color adaptation into the piece to just use the resin and not stabilize it. Food for thought. Still excellent work 👍

It is not burnt! This was a root, so was underground and the dark spots are rot called “spalted burl.” Did you notice the link at the end of the video to buy this piece? I did and it is now my most prized possession.
Why is this the first time I've seen vacuum being put to the pot ?? Everyone always pressurizes the pot. The intent is to degas. That doesn't happen if you apply pressure.
I wondered the same thing. I know nothing about this amazing craft, but I think the vacuum process was to impregnate the voids within the firewood with resin so it wasn't so fragile. I believe that being in the fire would compromise the strength of the wood fibers. That's why he didn't add color to the resin in that step. As for the pressure phase, I again assume that the high pressure prevents bubbling within the resin as it cures. As I said, I'm ignorant to the specifics of this amazing art but it's my best guess.
Love the work, but please turn off/lower the machining sounds and replace it with something as beautiful as the work you are doing. My ears feel like they went through a lathe.
I bet if you used those centipedes that eat rotten wood, you could get rid of that deadwood without smoothing out the interesting shapes on the burrel’s surface.
