Thank you for the video. I’m about to buy the ThOR LT 4x8 for a first thermal scope. Been doing research and ATN seems great for a first time thermal owner.
I had a Thor 4 2x8 a few years ago. It stopped working after about a year. Luckily, I was under warranty and sent it back to ATN. To their credit, they fixed it with about a three week turnaround time which I was satisfied with. I later sold it and bought Bering Optics Super Hogster which is a great scope with a 4 year warranty. When I bought the ATN there weren’t near as many good thermal manufactures as there are now. You have Bering Optics, AGM, iRay USA, and Pulsar now all of which are better than ATN in my opinion. Again, I liked the ATN while I had it, but there is no reason to go with one today as there are much better options out there now.
So you think atn just quit growing? Atn has improved a lot in the last fue years. They owe me nothing I just have a 4k pro. Never any problems and way better than any of my buddies ir scopes.
I probably watch way too much much UA-cam but I want to say for a from the hip video you are very articulate and don’t bring any ego bullshit into the video, great informative video good sir.
I've had mine for 2years not a problem, but the other night all set up drove miles down the road got into position and the bloody torch shit itself a normal headlight just doesn't cut it so went home.😪😭
Any chance we can get a follow up review on the X-Sight 4K HR Pro? I am extremely interested in getting that scope for an AR10 I am putting together as a hog gun. Thanks for disclosures on this video though, loved to hear that!
Re: customer service. My 4K pro decided not to charge anymore after about 18 months of ownership and medium light use. They sent me a return label and it’s only been about a week so we’ll see. So far they have been excellent and I look forward to a favorable outcome. Looking to upgrade to thermal, but I have the OTS-XLT 2-8x thermal monocular from ATN and it works pretty good for pellet gun ratting but the resolution is more blob-like. Want longer range ability for coyotes. Think this would do better? Or just get a long range IR illuminator and keep scanning for blobs with the monocular?
I am hoping you can help me with my Thor 4 384. My video in the scope itself is fine, but when i look at in on the PC its very grain and does not have the detail. I under stand, larger screen means larger pixels, but the resolution on the SD card is 768 X 576 and not 1280x 960 like the box, and instruction state. Could you tell me what the resolution of your recorded videos are. I think something is wrong because that 768x576 is in 60fps. What good would that poor resolution at that frame rate. Thanks in advance. CO from Detroit
What barrel are you using on the AR that it's running on currently? I've seen several different barrels on the various firearms it's been mounted on in your videos.
The one in this video is a stock rock river arms 18” rifle where it has been for the last 18 months to 2 years now. Before it was on a 16” smith and Wesson that I have heavily modified.
I can detect heat signatures out to 2000 yards, but that doesn’t mean you can safely identify them at that distance. I have to try and move within 300-400 yards for good identification. Young calfs and hogs look very similar through thermal at 500 yards and further.
Have you experienced issues with the 4K Pro? I enjoy the scope however occasionally when I turn it on I experience slight tech difficulties which can be fixed by holding the power button to restart but… I’d rather not deal with that. Thanks for the update!!
Not a single hiccup other than a very occasional freeze a while back. It has sat idle for over a year, and I powered it on for the first time a couple weeks ago and came right to life without any issues. It doesn’t get as much love now that I’m using thermal primarily.
4.5-18x, I’ve taken hogs to around 200 yards no problem, just keep in mind you want a decent base magnification if opting for a 384 sensor to help with a more accurate zero.
Any plans of getting a Thor 5 or know anybody that has one? ATN is offering me 3k for my Thor 4 since I'm looking at the Thor 5 XD. Really trying to figure out if I should just sell it outright and get a Pulsar or if the 5 is all its cracked up to be. I hate that I still can't find ANY third party reviews on it
@@4MRRanch Gotcha, I am pretty happy with ATN overall so I'll probably just take a leap of trust and hope it's the beast they're saying it is. Always nice seeing some in depth reviews with footage though
Some day I’ll scrounge up enough coin to buy one. The prices have stayed pretty reasonable. A 3 year review is a good sign, I have the tendency to kill electronics
I didn’t explicitly point this out (just realized I probably should have) but it’s been used on a 5.56, but I’m sure that makes the extensive use on this unit a bit easier than if it was a big bore caliber.
Heck I could have a scope half that price and have it last 10 plus years and it would still work . I have and iPhone that after 3 years , that battery would drain within seconds after disconnecting from the wall . Honestly it would be good to have one , but for long term I wouldn’t want to rely on one
Customer service SUCKS. I have a Thor 4 and it developed a milky looking screen that started bottom left and started working its way up and right across the screen. I got serious run around and it took TWO WEEKS and multiple phone calls and emails to finally get a return label for repair. It was well under warranty as well. Got it back and the milky coloring is gone but the resolution doesnt look anywhere the quality befor i sent it in for repair. NEVER buying another ATN product again.
All batteries are the same, they'll eventually degrade. Its why I prefer a thermal with an after market spare battery port plug, its usually cheaper than buying a custom battery pack made for the thermal that costs 3-5x more the replace.
Internal lithium batteries can last with 80% of original charge capacity for a decade, tens of thousands of cycles, but it is still a ticking time bomb on the device, the battery itself has an end of life unrelated to charging it. Some day, you will HAVE TO THROW IT AWAY!
I had asked ATN about this, and they told me they will have a replacement service for marginal cost compared to the original scope investment cost. My battery is still holding charge without any noticeable change in capacity. If it does decline after 10+ years, I assume the scope will be pretty obsolete and it’s time for the next generation. I’d personally be happy after getting 10+ years of use.
Yes this is an older video but I respectfully disagree to any sort of a bias towards ATN in this video. He has purchased more from ATN than this single scope which was stated. If anything I think he lacked in a timely follow up review he owed to ATN of it and had to get it done (respectfully). He stated it has been on more hunts (one a week-ish) than I would ever do and for that reason I am about to make a purchase decision (still looking at videos eww). I have been interested for several years in a thermal scope. ATN was back then when I started and still is, in my opinion the best for the money. Just to be fair Pulsar is my next option however brands have several models and I am still nipping that bud I guess. I just want to shoot rats (air gun) and coyotes (5.56) basically but yeah maybe do a hog hunt some fucking day LOL.
Good review.. but after reading through the comments not only on this vid but many others I´ve watched over the last few weeks, I think I´ll be giving ATN a miss, but to be honest there seems to be quirks on most thermal brands out there today... Pulsar maybe not so much , but dam you almost have to mortgage the house in order to get hold of one..
That shot at 2:55👌👌👌👌
Would’nt have believed it without the recording.
I've had 1 of 2 atn work well. But when a 4,000$ night vision dies you never forget how it went "trying" to get help.

Does this work as a regular scope if you don’t want to turn on the Thermal system?
This is a completely digital scope. It has no standard optical system you can look through. When it’s off, it’s just a black screen.

What contrast and sensitivity do you use
Thanks for the follow up. Not a lot thermal out there that hasn't had any issues in three years of regular use.

Yes, I actually plan to do a tips and tricks on sighting in your thermal optic.

I’ve been using the 4.5-18x on a 384 base sensor. Still going strong
Hey! Loved your reviews over the years, been really helpfull. Do you know if this scope will be ok with .375 HH recoil?
Any weather issue? Exposed to any elements?
Nothing more than some misting/light rain. No issues from that, but I have not tried to roll the dice intentionally exposing it to harsh weather.
Would you upgrade to ATN better sensor or 384x288 is bang for the money?
The 384 has gotten the job done for me. It would always be “nice” to have the better sensor, but I think it’s more of a want than a need.
Get the 640 identification is so much better
