Andreas Noraberg probably around the 25th anniversary of the Fellowship film release. Peter has all but hinted at it for years. I imagine it will be released Christmas 2026. He will add even more scenes. There is a scene that shows what happened to the fellowship after Bilbo & Frodo sail to the Undying Lands. Even in the extended edition they show a brief clip of Gimli & Legolas searching for treasures. Gimli holds a jewel up to eye looking to appraise it & Legolas is scene in the forest. Even watching the extended versions, you can tell scenes are cut & edited. He will pretty much throw in everything that was filmed. Cannot wait because that will be the sickest Christmas gift of all.

Unedited? As the scenes aren't in order, and it includes all the several dozen takes of the same scenes?
      That won't be a 6-hour version. That will be a 6-month version.
Editing includes putting the scenes in the correct order and sorting out the good takes from the bad takes. Remember that.

@@Thor.Jorgensen Ah, good point. It'll be bizzarely hilarious to see each scene a dozen times! But if we took the best take from each scene and ordered them, what would that be called then? I think that would be the most "extended" version that would make sense.

    • @Thor.Jorgensen
      @Thor.Jorgensen 3 роки тому +5

@@rubenpartono Right... But a lot of it wouldn't make sense. Because it would include scenes that later turn out to have been removed and treated as "oh yeah that thing? that never happened" without ever explaining that to the viewer.
Like when Sauroman goes to the Shire and burns the Shire down to steal a bunch of product, particularly pipeweed. But then we return to the Shire, and the Shire is completely untouched.
Or if we are to say Frodo turns into a Gollum-like creature, but then in the next scene, he's back to normal.
It would also include scenes where something happens twice or thrice but in different locations.
The entire thing would make no sense at all. It would be confusing as hell.

True but remember when things are subjected to reshoots it causes redudance of material.
The Fellowship of the ring movie appears to have the most deleted material by far. Even though Peter Jackson claimed it was the easiest book to translate due to it being a road movie style it had the most changes in terms of quickening the pace and it is also the shortest extended edition. Quite a bit of material was moved from fellowship to the two towers but even then there is still more...
The main parts which were trimmed were for violence and pacing.
      1. Gil Ghaled incineration and some fighting in prologue.
      2. Council of Elrond / Rivendell shortened. A dinner where frodo is asked by Elrond if he is comfortable with the fellowship that has been formed. An extended farewell.
3.travelling to and down from Cahadras trimmed.
4.Moria the first great Hall was Removed / trimmed
5.Orcs chase fellowship in to forrest then an extended journey with Haldir showing Dol Godur in the distance. Galadriel Mirror shortened showing Gandalf and more scouring of the shire.
      6. After the set for the landing station was destroyed for Sarn Gebir Rapids they stole footage from the Amon Hen Battle shortening the fight scenes instead of intercutting between the Uruks and the boats it would intercut between Aragorn fighting and Uruks running onward.
The Sarn Genir sequence gone 2 options were cited orcs attack at night from the shoreline with no rapids and a skirmish or Sarumens crows spot the boats on the river before nightfall. The crows scene was shot and in the film but they never put in the cgi crows.

Gil-Galad is also not really explored in the LoTR, and in the movie prologue focusing on his death would be superfluous, because most viewer's wouldn't know who he was, or understand why his death was important. It would definitely have given even more of a sense of foreboding concerning Sauron and his overwhelming power, but when run-time is already extending so far, you can't have everything.
Honestly I don't know if it would be too brutal for modern audiences, but back then I imagine it might have caused some controversy, I feel that it was a combination of being a little darker in tone than the FoTR portrayed while also being an unnecessary scene to the core experience.

If you watch the storyboard of the prologue Gimli looking at the Jewel is pictured and I also have a feeling that the shot of Legolas is from the prologue too when talking of elves.
The Prologue seems to have started life as narrated by Frodo then it was shifted to Gandalph telling the story to Frodo at Bag end and Elrond at Rivendell then it went back to the original idea as an opening prologue but shortened and narrated by Galadriel, but Elrond kept his part of the split and Gandalf Kept only the Torture of Gollum part. Furthurmore the Prologue at Dagorland was shot in 2 styles a Ralph Baski Sepia type Shadow style and full color fully lit. On top of this the full color footage on location looked small scale which probably required some Bluescreen re-shoots to expand the background. The smaller scale version would have been an insurance should the massive simulation software not had been ready or adequete. So the Prologue is quite a big part of lots of excised footage of which you can probably expect 4 or five iterations of Dagorland Battle but the Legolas and Gimli shots seem to fit the introduction to elves and Dwarves not their ending.

The focus of the movie is the narrative of the story, the growth of the characters - specifically Frodo and Sam - and the epic journey that is the quest of the ring and the unity of the fellowship. The destruction of the ring is _THE_ payoff of the story, the obvious climax, and adding another B-plot in the middle of the masterfully crafted winding-down that follows would be a disservice to the film as a whole. Using it as a vision of "what could come to pass" was a good way to reference it and acknowledge to fans that it's a thing.
But while the focus of the movie is the narrative of the ring-quest, the focus of the _books_ is the worldbuilding of Middle-Earth. Tolkien lingers on small details constantly and uses his words and poems to describe everything from the mundane to the awe inspiring. He can take detours to the barrow-downs for a side-adventure that shows where the hobbits get their weapons without worrying about the pacing, because it's the fact this place and the wights exist at all that matters. Tom's place in the world and his cottage is mysterious and engaging as a reader learning more about the world itself, but he does literally nothing for the narrative (they even gave his scene with Old Man Willow to Trebeard, though I think that's extended edition only).
Film as a medium wants cohesive actions that flow neatly together. The books major focus was building a cohesive world for those actions to take place in. The fact that Jackson adapted so much of the book without hitting the pitfalls of adaptation is what makes the movies a work of genius in their own right. Books and film are different mediums, and need to be treated as such.

@Ryan Sharp well it's hard to say what's right what's not with the Uruk and Orc and Goblin situation. Aragorn said orcs while Legolas said goblins in the entrance in Moria then said orcs in the room where Balins Tomb was lol imo the ones that hunch really low and are able to crawl like roaches on walls like the ones in the first Hobbit movie Unexpected Journey with the Goblin King they do that in the Fellowship of the ring as well the ones in Moria . Those to me they're goblins . When I see uruks I think of the ones from Mount Gundabad in the Battle of the 5 Armies that Bolg led from the North . Bolg and Azog are also Gundabad Uruks . Big guys . I think of the black Uruks in Mordor. Shagrat for example , the one that was fighting Gorbag in the Cirith Ungol Tower ( Gorbag is the orc that attempted to stab Frodo in Return of the King but Sam stabbed the Gorbag first) he was a tall guy . Or of course my favourite the most fiercest army Sarumans Isenguard Uruk-Hai . Those are true uruks . Orcs I think of mostly Mordor orcs like the ones that attempted to eat Merry and Pippin in the Two Towers or the ones that were helping Saruman out and pulling down Trees in the Fellowship of the Ring movie . Most of the ones you see in the Pelennor Fields battle are basically orcs . The Black Gate battle as well mostly all orcs . In my mind Goblins are small , Orcs are Medium and Uruks are Large . That's my sort of thinking for them . To me they're all different

    • @thehunter7422
      @thehunter7422 3 роки тому +2

@Ryan Sharp kind of like that it's like comparing almost like hobbits and men and men to dwarves type of thing . Male means man as well but there's male dwarves and hobbits and stuff like that but Men are considered different like a race as well . Like Gondorian Men , Rohirrim Men , Numenorean Men etc and so on . Than you have Dwarves . Moria Dwarves , Erebor Dwarves and Iron hills Dwarves etc . It's kind of like fingers and thumbs as well is probably the best way of saying it . All thumbs are fingers but not all fingers are thumbs . All goblins are orcs but not all orcs are goblins . There's a species thing too it as well like you said . Cause there's Misty Mountain Goblins and Moria Goblins sort of situation , Mordor and Angmar Orcs and Angband Orcs . Gundabad Uruks , Isenguard Uruks etc . Tolkien made it very unique and large for races , Species and that sort of thing . It's hard to believe it was behind one man lol . There's so many parts I haven't even touched on yet but yeah there's so much to talk about this concept .

Tbh I kinda think it would have worked, the final battle at the black gates needed 'something'. It just seemed over too quickly and besides some brief cgi wideshots we never got a proper sense of the brutality and suicidal nature of the battle, all the groups of men standing up together to fight pure evil at its very front door. And I think it could have worked as they mentioned how the battle at the front gate took saurons complete attention and maybe could have helped him manifest a physical form or something, I thought they talked about how he was getting close to coming back or something. I think it would have been a great reveal and added a great climax, especially if they showed the bleak nature of just how unequipped an exhausted aragorn and his army were at fighting a fresh legion of orcs and monsters. I also wish we got to see a proper scene of the easterlings fighting in ground battle. We see them entering the black gate in two towers then never see them again. The evil men riding on the oliphaunts looked like they were harad soldiers not easterlings like I often see people say.

So that is why the Elven army came from Rivendell. It makes little sense in the final movie, but I'm glad they cut Arwen out of it. There is no way Elrond would send his only daughter, who was probably already starting to fade at this point, into a situation of almost certain death!
I'm quite surprised by the Aragorn vs Sauron scene. I've heard of it already, I just didn't realise the angelic illusion was probably Sauron's initial form before he became totally evil.

Tatiana Pellegrinelli I reckon it would’ve been better if Arwen led the army, because it would’ve been a beautiful comparison to Lúthien- hers and Aragorn’s elven ancestress, who likewise began to fade due to the love felt for the mortal Beren, yet she joined in battle against Melkor and Sauron protect him.
The angelic form Sauron takes is Annatar, the form Sauron used to deceive the elves of Eregion into helping him forge rings of power.

Gil-Galad dies from the "heat of Sauron's hand,' presumably the ring is extremely hot while Sauron is alive and wearing it.

Hold up! Arwen fought alongside Aragorn in Helms Deep?! Oh come on!! That would have been epic to have seen in the final cut. Adding to that, more scenes of Eowyn being a badass shield maiden would have been perfect.

why eowyn her scenes from the glittering caves was cut is weird, having her skirt stuck up with her blade is real af. i kinda wanna start a petition to add all the scenes that got cut, making lotr a 36hour epic is a win for all of us :) :) :) :) :)

I hope they'll release another special edition with never before seen footage :). That's all we can hope for now. But I'm already really gratefull for all three extended editions and all those bonuses, it's more than a true fan could wish for :).

The ring does that to them. Frodo wore it several times but it didn't change him physically in the movie. Maybe they took it out because it wouldn't give Frodo a admirable appearance.

That super shot scene where 'Aragorn & Arwen first meet' is breathtakingly beautiful...It resonates with my soul. I wish there was longer take even it plays a minor part in the story. Because, I KNOW that all Aragron & Arwen scenes have the best cinematography in the entire trilogy😭😭 (Legoas in Ithilien is beautiful too)
