I went to this museum earlier this year in January. Talked to the owner for around an hour. He was one the best Museum owners I’ve ever met along with an amazing museum!
I live in Vicksburg and I visit this museum frequently. It’s amazing! If you’re a Civil War buff, you really need to get down here to visit the Vicksburg Military Park and this great museum.
I took my kids to this museum yesterday. We all LOVED it! The owner is absolutely a TOP NOTCH guy! He gets NO funding from anyone for this exhibit! He relies solely on admission charges, which in my opinion are WAY TOO CHEAP!! Can't recommend seeing this place enough! PLEASE VISIT THIS PLACE!!!!
I went in April of this year. What an amazing museum! It's hard to fathom how much stuff he has crammed into such a small space, but it's so well organized. It's easy to go through and enjoy all of the exhibits. Amazing collection, great owner.
I love this museum. I saw it on another video with History Savior 1941. It’s amazing. I love how everyone is included not just North and South but the civilians both black and white. Thanks for taking me again lol. I can never get enough of it. ♥️👍
I remember going through the Grand Gulf museum - the most extensive collection of riverine naval artillery I've seen. Not the biggest venue, but worth the trip.
Wonderful museum! I have not been to Vicksburg yet, but need to make the trip. My ancestor fought there in the Chicago Mercantile Battery, and I would love to do my Albert Cashier impression for the park.
My family and I were in Vicksburg yesterday on our vacation. We got our family picture on Fort Hill. I walked the Forlorn Hope because of your video. Wish I had time to do the hike Garry did, but it was hot and my youngest is just 17 months and had seen this video before I went. I’ve been enjoying these videos. We’re stopping at Shiloh on our way home.
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrustthanks! I watched them starting with the Henry and Donelson campaign. Just finished Tim Smith’s video tour last week. I’ll have his voice in my head at the Hornet’s Nest, “This is important, but it has taken an oversized role in the battle because the first historian fought there.” 😂
I live in Vicksburg. What Charles Pendleton has done is to combine an extensive collection of Civil War material culture with a really good interpretation of the causes and consequences of the war. He doesn’t pull punches on the primary cause of the war, not by his words but the words of the states and the government officials. His interpretation of slavery and of Reconstruction (which is a huge lesser told story of Vicksburg) is spot on. Go here with an open mind. He’s more than willing to talk with anyone. He almost requires that people read his mission statement and the ordinances of secession to put everything else he has in perspective. So while stuff dominates, its in a larger context. Where better than Vicksburg to tell these stories? Nowhere.
15:22 As a kid I remember watching a 1950s TV show called "The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp" starring Hugh O'Brien. He had this gun called "the Buntline special (made for TV drama I think mostly); this reminds me of that gun, his was a little bit shorter.
I am a lifelong lover of history, but as a West Coast dweller I never had much first hand exposure to ACW sites but as I am now working in Texas I finally had a chance to visit Vicksburg AND this museum blew me away as much as the Battlefield itself. I've also really, really enjoyed the Texas Civil War Museum, but it's closing permanently at the end of October 2024 - what a disaster !
I'm curious why you've never covered the topic of money during the civil war. Patriotic civil war tokens, civil war store card tokens, sutler tokens, fractional currency, the birth of the 1864 U.S. 2 cent coin where "In God We Trust" was first used, etc. Such rich history with coins and currency during the civil war. Great tour of the museum! Thank you very much!
@@AmericanBattlefieldTrust Awesome! I love all your work and I plan on continuing to donate money to your incredible organization. Thanks and take care!
8:41 On the single shot gun "it could also be carried by women..." I don't know if Mary Todd Lincoln, or Varina Davis had one, but I remember First Lady Nancy Reagan packing! She explained that it was a "tiny little gun." 😉I wonder if it were one of the derringer types as seen in the same case here, ha ha.
Now that sound as though it could be a great video in itself, 'Origins Of A Civil War Museum' ? "Inquiring minds want to know.", including me, (hehe), and to top it off, the own shares a great name w/me.
@@eagletalons5333 I asked hpe this came to be and he said the wife was tired of her basement and garage being full of this stuff So he got the building.
@@michaelnewton5873 Can you image all that great stuff being packed in a basement and a garage, I don't blame his (Charles's) wife on that one.. I told my wife we should sell everything we own and buy a 'motor home', and travel this country and see all that God created on North American continent, but she's not liking that idea, yet. But 'if' we ever do, this place will be on our tour route, for sure.. This Chuck guy sounds interesting fella also, thanks for the info. @Micheal.!
An excellent museum...and, the most meaningful to me, was the constitution of each state of the Confederacy which outlined the need to keep blacks enslaved.

I also visited earlier, very nice very passionate couldn’t recommend a museum more!
How do you look at someone in the face for that long?
That was my experience too. Kudos to the man.
Just visited last week. Best civil war exhibit I've seen hands down.

Visited earlier this year and spoke with Charles quite some time. Highly worth the visit. Good stuff.
Was there in October 2022. Incredible collection of quality. Charles is first class.
I went a few weeks ago, met charles, great guy, amazing collection.
You really have to go to private museums to see the good stuff. Thank you for showing us this.
My great uncle was shot at Vicksburg on may 18th, 1st day of fighting.
He was with the 56th ohio.
Records say it was near his knee.
Great video! Haven't been to Vicksburg in a few years so this makes me want to go back for sure.

I wish this museum existed the last time I was in Vicksburg. I will have to put it on my museum/battlefield bucket list.
Some really well preserved artifacts. The guns and sabers were off the hook literally. Thank you Kris and Gary for this tour! 💯👍
Great video as always! Thanks!!
Like you guys, I can't get enough of civil War stuff. If money was no object... :)

This place is awesome! Best place to start when doing a Vicksburg Historic tour.

Excellent section of muskets etc
Thank you for sharing! Definitely adding this to the list. The cabin and art were my favorite items you showed.
Great video 👍👍❤️
Thanks!
Awesome, thanks Mike!

Very interesting
My dad got a hold of a cannonball used at Vicksburg.
Cool deal Neil!
Grand Gulf museum too
Jesus, I think that slave cabin was larger than my dorm room in college
:( I wasn't there long enough to see this
Okay I'm going back.

His wife forced him to get this business space
And we all become the beneficiaries!

Where is the Colt Walker?????????
What about a La Mat pistol and carbine.
I can remember when it was a drug store
