I enjoy the unboxing videos. That picture of Hitler was impactful to me. JD, when you read the date I knew exactly what was about to happen in Austria. My great grandparents lived in Vienna at the time and within 6 months of Hitler taking over they were insightful enough to find a way out to The Netherlands, and reach Ellis Island ten days before Kristallnacht. I have a fascination for this time period. History is really something! Thanks!

@@TheHistoryUnderground I was lucky enough to meet them both, but my grandfather died when I was 5, and something tells me they wouldn't have talked about it. Nothing was ever discussed in my family about WW2 or The Holocaust. I had to research for myself, now they are all gone. I have a small prayer book they brought out with them. They had a publishing company and I have this book, stamped "Germania" on publishing page. It was given to my parents when they got married in 1944.

I have an M1 Garand that was passed down to me by my grandfather that was hit by MG fire during the invasion of Normandy, also have the bayonet, pocket knife and wrist watch from the same soldier that was unfortunately KIA In the first wave that hit Omaha, the thing that gives me chills about it is the watch is stopped at 7:13 from I assume water getting inside of it after he was killed. I get chills everytime I hold them. I always imagine what the last thoughts must have been from this brave young man. They live on through these relics and stories. It's very interesting.

@@TheHistoryUnderground absolutely, I'm out of town for the next couple of days for an event when I get back I'll snap some photos for you. I've also got a couple of Complete SS uniforms with helmets & original ribbons and badges as well I'll send you those too they are in MINT condition. He also left me with some Silver platters and I would assume its a silver tea pot looks to be anyways and the note that was stuffed in the teapot said it was found in a German HQ building by Airborne troops outside of Sainte Mere Eglise on d-day. I just received these items from his will so I am still kind of looking into them myself.

A question for Erik, Have you ever realised that you have accidentally thrown an artefact away and had to go “dumpster diving” to rescue it?. Thanks Erik and JD another gem of an unboxing, it was almost like watching my grandchildren on Christmas Day, lol 😂.
P.S, it is a sad indictment of our modern and enlightened society that you have to delineate your observations about an artefact and the subject within the piece, whether it is a photograph of Adolf Hitler or a Japanese WWII flag or a civil war rifle mini-ball, the fact is they all relate to episodes in history of such a violent and deadly nature, but, you wouldn’t have to virtually apologise for showing a mini-ball projectile, but you do have to delineate the fact that the picture and the flag have historical curiosity, even craftsmanship that is to be admired and not the subject matter of them, we should be able to understand the difference ourselves and not need to issue a disclaimer about the subject, or is that to simplistic these days?.

Hitler met with the head Austrian guy 3 days before the takeover and told him that it was going to happen. He let the guy know that he knew the Austrians had little in the way of border guards and the German Army would wack them all. The Austrian unhappily OKed the plan to save lives. Austria had been de-stabilized over 2 preceding years by thousands of SA activists sent there. All of the flags we see in the newsreels were hung by the SA for the event. If your picture's date is true then it is dated the same day as this important meeting. All of these details are spelled out and proved by no less than Winston Churchill in his book "The Gathering Storm".
