In 2020 I would visit my terminally ill daughter in the hospital and wonder what she was thinking when our eyes met. This song reminds me of those days and how I wish I could revisit those times. Rest in peace Eve. Daddy loves you.
Oh my dear sweet friend it reminds me of when my daughter's friend passed away and we would always go out no matter what tragedy hit us and pick out a star in the sky for people who have left us behind and we will miss them so I'm so sorry sweetheart for your loss
Omg, these guys.. I don't have words to express how grateful I am for their music. I have every solo album by each member, but I have to say that they don't quite reach the same sublimity or depth as they do together. One word: Magic.
Just listened to this version for the first time - geez, this band ages so well. Phenomenal performance, Peter's Ebow, plus the string section really top off the performance. This song is timeless!
Best band on the planet, featuring the best songwriter and two of the best guitarists...and a string of excellent drummers :) Cheers for getting me through university and seeing me into the rest of my life, chaps - long may my Blurred Crusade continue! J, 22, UK x
I love my alt music... I was born in the 70s lived thru the 80s....the band is truly underrated....people say that about LOTS of artists...this band is one of the very best and the greatest Australian band of all time.
love this performance! thank you for sharing. his voice has aged beautifully! it still sounds like when it first came out. and the strings!!! brilliant!
Hello / Hello 67snowqueen, Our UA-cam Music Host... Its Late Night in the the Winter of Late January - 2023 / Welcoming Early Sunday Morning!!! Thank UUU for Posting This Special Program / This Music Video - Amazing. Sharing with (Mrs. Angelina Jordan & Hubby + Family) Other's Here!!! Take Care / God Bless / Sincerely, DD.
One of the best bands of all time...they have quite a catalog of great music... thank you for posting and thank you to the The Church for so much awesome music
One of my absolute favorite songs of any era or genre, from a masterpiece of an album from one of-if not THE grandfathers of indie music! Also, EASILY the best live version I've heard, those strings really help create that warm, ambient tone from the album. THANKS FOR SHARING, PEACE!
And to think I only just found this........wow. Best EVER live performance of UTMW. These guys are pop/rock giants. I grew up worshiping Marty and Pete's guitar styles & it remains that few people can layer & texture like them. Maybe Eno, perhaps Robert Smith on a good day. And Steve, what can I say, no one else can we've magic with world-weary breathy resignation & deceptively simple 1-finger bass. The combination is as frightening, despairing & hypnotising as it is beautiful. Tim's good too.
Whew... when a band is on, they are really *on*! This and "Tantalized" surely stand alongside the best these songs have ever been played. This music, and the way the band plays, have aged exceedingly well. Their back catalog sometimes sounds to me like music from an alternate reality - a collection of unusual pop paths never taken up by anyone else in our world - but these revisitings of late shine so amazingly brightly. Beautiful stuff.
Simple melodies that are just very good. I only just discovered The Church a couple years ago- so I'm getting to enjoy all the songs for the first time- many years after they were written and recorded. I like them alot-- Good cruising music.
Daaaaaaamn! Just when I thought you couldn't make it any better they added strings and that really DOES add something! This is one of those ungodly addictive melodies that once I catch a snatch of it, I need a good, solid saaayyy....20-30 listens before I can even BEGIN to get it out of my system!
Gosh! I remember when this song came out.. I lived in Dallas and they performed a live show in West End Dallas literally under the milkyway. I wished I hadn't been smoked out back them so I could have taken it all in better.. I do remember it being a killer show.
i hope i spell this right, forgive me my schoolenglish, churches are institutions, this song is also an institution.....goosebumps, tears....wtf is this song still doing with me after all these years.....
Always follow the commandments and as Master Chi Lyn taught me on a chilling journey to Marsha lane get it out by helping others and engaging in the elements to the earth. Amen and namaste...
Yea, I just really found them about 3-4 years ago myself. I was familiar with "Under The Milky Way" way back when it came out, but I was a stupid kid who didn't really appreciate it then and never heard anything else until just a few years ago and was blown away. #wasted years
great news. i think many people are anxious to see the Tantalized clips, and perhaps the induction talk by Negus. Those of us from outside Australia have not been able to view any of it. anyhow...you post tantalized and i will be enormously grateful!

We were not meant to bury our children. Besides, she had a beautiful name.
Oh my dear sweet friend it reminds me of when my daughter's friend passed away and we would always go out no matter what tragedy hit us and pick out a star in the sky for people who have left us behind and we will miss them so I'm so sorry sweetheart for your loss
I certainly wasn't expecting to get teary-eyed coming in here today.
I'm sorry you had/have to endure that pain.
@@imacmill Thank you.
Classic! This will still sound good in a thousand years
Rob Strange Perfect my friend!!!
👌🏼👌🏼 Sounds like it could have been recorded yesterday, tomorrow or 30 years from now = the definition of timeless
o vocalista ainda manda muito bem
I haven't heard any music from 1000 years ago..
There will be no music in 1000 years.
One of the best songs ever backed with strings...Truly amazing!
The pleasure this band has given me over the years is indescribable.
Me too! My favourite band ever.
The perfect song.

They sound even better in 2010 then they did in 1988. Great music!
... and only better again in 2022.

;)
takes me back to a time long ago....things were good when we were young
This is dedicated to all the men who no matter how hard you tried it just didnt work.
I cannot believe I just found this band after all these years. Damn, where have I been or where have they been. Simply put great. Love their sound.
Found them ca. 1998. I heard Reptile on a movie on TV. I found a used CD with Reptile and this song. It was/is glorious.
They're still touring.
The Church have been making records and touring since around 1982! Great band. Their back catalogue is worth checking out……
Yet again, even after 30+ years I can close my eyes and just float away. Absolutely brilliant!
Yep.
One of my most favourite songs in my life ever. Thank you so much for posting

One of the best bands from down under......EVER!
And close cousins from new Zealand( crowded house)
Magia em forma de música!!!
Peter Koppes' solo at the end of the song (ebow + wah wah) is unbelievable.
Simple melodies that are just very good. I only just discovered The Church a couple years ago- so I'm getting to enjoy all the songs for the first time- many years after they were written and recorded. I like them alot-- Good cruising music.

A true masterpiece. Glad to Donnie Darko movie i found out this fantastic band.
Matt man, it's never too late to recognize great music. :)
This song has aged so perfectly. I love it every bit as much now as I did when I first heard it in the 80s. ❤
Peter Koppes' ebow work is the true star of this performance.
I love the subtle improvement to the main riff. Just one extra note makes a huge difference.
gran banda, lejos unos de mis preferidos, i love the Church :)

Isn't it the truth? This song plucks and strums many emotional strings - true measure of a great song and performing band.
You are all my witnesses, I want this song played at my funeral. 🫶🏽
