Great video as always. This movie felt like "My Bloody Valentine" in it's cinematography, with homages to the 80's and late 90's Slasher movies. The nods to "Halloween", "Scream", "I know you What You Did Last Summer", and the killer reveal which was a homage to "The Prowler", were great touches for fans. Definitely think this is my movie of the year so far.
What nods did you get for Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Halloween? A nod I got was the diner scene when she looked out and saw John Carver standing there staring at her. That is obviously for Halloween. I thought of I Know What You Did Last Summer for the parade scene when she is looking out into the crowd and looking at the different John Carver. That is just like when Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) was looking at all the men dressed in slickers and wondering which one or if it was him.
I just watched this the other night and the thing that shocked me more than anything else was the reveal that there was NOT two killers!! I have a feeling they did a 'Scream 3' on us where there was meant to be two killers, but either did a re-write or edited it to just have one. SPOILERS BELOW: . . . . . . . . SPOILERS BELOW: A few scenes that pointed to this were: 1# The chase in the school with the mannequins. Prior to that scene, she clocked him standing outside, fully dress in his cop gear. Then he was the first to see her outside when she escaped... back in full cop gear! How did no one notice he disappeared? 2# When he was holding up the video call when holding the girl hostage in the house, the video on the other end was moving around, panning around the room... 3# After Kathleen was cooked and then John Carver started taunting them around the dinner table, the Sherriff was still back at the station trying to trace the call with the rest of the cops. 4# Obviously the ending from being behind the fence, to immediately being knocked out by Bobby next to the cop car on the floor... Once again, full dressed in cop uniform! 🤣 That cop gear is surely not that easy to keep taking on and off so easily! Maybe there are two and the reveal will be in the next film. Through out, I just thought it was the boyfriend and ex-boyfriend working together!
John Carver the killer was so much more interesting and cool than the guy behind the mask. They didn't write Sheriff Eric Newlon after the reveal well enough. He seemed just like an angry (boring) guy seeking recenge instead of the absolute fucking maniac that we saw through the whole movie.
it’s pretty good. That’s about it. Great, inventive kills but that finale stunk and anyone who knows the genre understands how important the third act is in a horror movie.
It was definitely fun. I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely not the greatest of all time for me, but I’m glad people are loving it because hopefully we’ll get more and more!
@@lonerebeI We get it, Buddy - you didn’t like the movie. “Imagine liking this” is such a dismissive, smug way to open a dialogue with someone if that’s your intention. I mean I didn’t love the movie but there’s a way to go about thing without coming across as a huge douche. Just saying.
One character that i really warmed up to as the movie went on was McCarty. Really hope we get a sequel for more of him. I also dug Scuba and Jessica. Also, didnt expect to like the dad but he was not nearly as bad i expected.
I just want to know how John Carver/ Sheriff got from behind the final girl, chasing her with the ax to lying on the street in front of her pretending to have been attacked. That being said, I loved the movie and look forward to more helpings!
I had to hold off watching this until I watched the movie today and im glad you enjoyed it as much as I did! I really hope there will be a sequel, I will definitely be rewatching this when its out on demand. It was a blast!
I watched this last night and I had a blast! I love the slasher suspense of trying to figure out who’s the killer is. I had a top three I kept bouncing back and forth from. 😂 “is it him?” “oh no, it’s definitely him!” “oh I knew it it’s him!” etc.. But the death at the parade when the truck breaks and the shit goes through the guys face messed me up 😂
Any ideas/thoughts on if there was motive for the Sherrif to kill the kid in the turkey costume in the parade? (or if it was just random for shock value?) Seems though that he had specific intent for everyone he killed. I've heard different things. I know the character has a name. It's Lionel. And I read somewhere that supposedly Lionel was, in fact, involved at the riot on black Friday, but you don't really see him. I re-watched the riot scene, and it seems like he might have been pushing the shopping cart that somewhat collided with Lizzie's shopping cart (the aggressive waitress character who hit Amanda.) Not sure though, and if so, it's certainly not fleshed out in the narrative of the film.
I'm surprised by how toned down the trampoline death was. I remember seeing Grindhouse when I was in high school and, besides the entirety of the Machete trailer, that scene in the Thanksgiving trailer was the one my friends and I talked about because of how insane we thought it was. This is either a sign that Eli Roth is maturing or the studio straight up said "oh hell no".
He wasn’t going to get a $15 million budget to make the movie with that scene as it was shot. Plus, he said in interviews he didn’t want to do the movie like the fake trailer because the fake trailer was a parody and he didn’t want to make a parody.
I'd like to see Scuba blaming himself and feeling guilty about Yulia's death in a sequel and how he deals with that. From an outside perspective, he obviously isn't to blame for her death but he did fumble the gun and that whole situation is probably something that he would overthink about and replay in his mind. I can imagine him getting really into guns after that. My favourite moment was probably the accident at the parade. I don't think that driver was on the hit list and I think that he was just random collateral, which makes it more surprising and shocking. My least favourite part was the death of the waitress. Too CG and wacky as heck, it was like something from Itchy and Scratchy. Those bin lids can be heavy, sure, but the force of the _chomp_ wasn't really enough without the lid having some kind of razor sharp edge to just slice her clean in half like that. I think I would have preferred to see more of a crushing death from it and then Carver stepping out of the car with axe in hand approaching her lifeless body. That way it's a somewhat gnarly death that's not like something out of a cartoon and it still leads to her getting 50% off.
The ending also made me think of the ending in My Bloody Valentine when the killer walks out of the tunnels with a mask as well others thinking it’s a firefighter or medic
Instead of Scream I'd much rather see Eli Roth direct a future Final Destination movie. Imagine how elaborate and gore filled the death sequences in that would be!
McCarty (the gun seller) and Jacob (the dorky dude who writes the jock's papers) were definitely the best characters. Colorful, funny as fuck and different. Nell in the lead was fine as well. Always good to see Dempsey. Had a lot of fun with this one. Not perfect but absolutely one I'd revisit annually.
Agree with Mike here. As soon as I saw Dempsey on the floor I knew it was him. An offscreen attack of a main character- then he’s alive - bingo it’s hi . he takes gun off her when she lowers hers guard. Oh yeah she’s going to regret trusting him
I loved it too. My only criticism was how fast he got to his car at the end after chasing her. And the flammable helium. Otherwise I really enjoyed it.
Theory for second film that I heard you pick up on: The Roommate Scott has a close resemblance to Patrick Dempsey. I wonder if he could end up being a killer in the second film to “finish what his dad started” or something like that. I’d love that idea
Saw this last night and I had a great time. The only real issue I had with the film was how the sheriff managed to get from the cabin all the way downtown, Attack Bobby and then wait for Jessica, before she could, when she had a head start over him.
Yea I agree, we don't get context of time, she also might have had a broken/high-ankle sprain injury where in all honesty you're not walking great, if not at all.
I think the trampoline death was as good as they could get away with and Eli Roth says he has a great relationship with the MPAA and knows the rules. It still has the "skewer" implication and cringe factor, but they couldn't end that scene with both blood and nudity. I think the MPAA necessarily draws the line at showing direct genital violence with weapons. They can show the aftermath like in Hostel 2 when she throws his bloody junk after she cuts him offscreen. Even the original Thanksgiving Grindhouse trailer cut away at the right moment and nothing is explicitly shown. My god though, that last half second where he's humping the turkey-head in the Grindhouse Trailer is one of those masterful "My brain cannot comprehend what I'm seeing but I'm disturbed" things that sticks in your head.
Yeah the second I saw him laying in the street I immediately said oh he's the killer. I thought for sure that when they were back in his office when he went into that back room that he was going to come out with the John Carver mask on but instead they went with the whole showing the same burrs on his pants. Even though there were some scenes in the movie when I reflect on them, like the school scene, I'm like how?? She literally looked outside and saw that he was standing outside with the other cop and then maybe a minute later she got the text saying come here and I would say it took her maybe like 2 minutes or whatever to walk to that other part of the school. So you're trying to tell me in about 3 minutes flat he ran to another school entrance put on the John Carver costume and incapacitated Evan and the other girl. Had to suspend some disbelief on that one. I still enjoyed the fuck out of the movie tho and would watch it again.
I absolutely loved this movie! The 'whodunit' plot is very reminiscent of Scream, and pays respect to it and Halloween as well. It's a modern day 90's slasher movie, complete with fantastic practical effects, tons of gore and a brand new, iconic horror movie villain. It's everything you love about classic slashers in one movie.
So glad I went to see this. Had a great mostly empty theater at an early morning showing. Great new holiday slasher. Probably gonna pop this in every year now. This better become a franchise.
This was a fun ride, really enjoyed it. Its got a lot of old slasher influences - Halloween, Friday 13th, Prom Night, I know what you did last summer, Scream, Valentine it was really cool, best slasher ive seen since Halloween Kills, was it a classic - maybe after some more viewings it will be, but all in all it was a fun ride and the acting and actors i thought were really good for a change!
Thanksgiving was beautifully crafted like a nice piece of turkey. Add a bit of Scream, some Halloween, and then to finish it up, sprinkle some Terrifier to spice it all up. Mmmmm, what we have here is a delicious R rated horror slasher that I also hope carries on for more sequels. Definitely my favourite Eli Roth film fo sho!
I'm surprised no one is talking about it but I feel like there was two killers involved. It just threw me off how if the killer was the cop he chased her, got into his cop car, drove to the warehouse house then laid on the ground? I just don't understand how all of that could've happened that fast
I still can’t believe Sheriff McDreamy Kincaid was the killer! I call him McDreamy cause that was his nickname on Grey’s Anatomy, and Kincaid because in Scream 3 he was Detective Mark Kincaid
I really loved this one, nails the tone of slashers perfectly and amazing kills! Another part I really loved was the music choices. I think most of the music kinda sucks in most slashers these days (I’m more of a rock/metal type guy) but Misfits in the ending credits and a deep cut from Sammy Hagar in the gym scene had me excited! Hope Roth has some cooler selections in part 2!
My favorite line was “no one understands subtlety anymore. To make a splash, you really need to hit people over the head..right,Evan?” Don’t know why, it was just a good line for that part ha
For me, the principal five were the weakest element of the flick, though Scuba was solid throughout and Jess started to improve about the time she was hiding from JC amidst all the cosmetology mannequins. Took me about fifteen-twenty minutes to recalibrate my brain to how much Eli Roth loves the word 'fuck', but after that it didn't register. Kills overall were exceptional even if a good chunk of them were given away in the trailer. Agree about the 'What do I do?' line, that delivery was top notch and a very real moment in an otherwise over the top flick. Would definitely be happy to see a follow-up somewhere down the line, though I'd wager the next incarnation of JC will be burnt to such a degree that they can use a stuntman in make-up unless Patrick Dempsey wants to keep earning his madman bona fides. Overall my only real knock on the flick is that it hews REAL close to the OG My Bloody Valentine, to the point where if you've seen that one, you're not going to surprised by a whole lot that goes down in Plymouth. Even so, it's still a fantastic slasher and an excellent potential franchise starter. Excellent work as always, Mike!
Eli Roth didn't write this movie. That's why the characters and dialogue weren't all that bad. Because he's really bad at writing both but what he's great at is coming up with cool concepts/stories which is what he did with Thanksgiving along with director
This movie gave off the classic 90s film mixed with the comedy and gruesome kills which I feel like they went overboard on the gore to the point where people were laughing in the theater but it’s something we don’t get a lot nowadays so we gotta appreciate what we can get. Hopefully, they announce a sequel because best believe I will be there to watch it!!
McCarty gave the main girl that ring that had the little sharp edge on it and he said it’s for good luck. That Ross look a like is totally gonna be the killer in the next one. Maybe with Patrick Dempsey. So two killers in the next one.
Watched it yesterday. It was damn good but not great. I give it a 7.5/10. My main issue was the lack of suspense. Lots of awesome kills and scenes, just a failure to build tension in many of them. Still was a fun movie.
This was a great time and I thought more or less the same things as you. As for the few uses of CGI, I didn't mind them as they were brief and the use of practical gore effects outweighed them. (I liked the dumpster kill) Also, MCCARTY was my favorite character in the film as well. Though if John Carver did kill him with one of his own guns (like the blunderbluss a'la The Prowler), that would have been fine too, but more than happy he survived as with Scuba.
I’m glad people enjoyed this movie but, personally, I thought the trailer that came with the Grindhouse movies back in 2007 was far better. Wasn’t a fan of it at all.
My hubs and I just watched after making the rounds at three different meals. I thought it was hilarious, just what I expected. He's a big wimp when it comes to slashers!
The camera and way he walks up to the door in the very beginning, then the weird interaction between them. I immediately said he was the killer 😂 Wasn't mad about it though.
Great video as always.

I loved this movie. Can't wait for a Sequel.
Is that not the kid from Eurotrip? I thought the same exact shit right away!!!
Yeah it was awesome, really enjoyed
Just saw it. So much fun. And end credits starting with where eagles dare.... yes
I highly enjoyed this movie! I’m hoping for a yearly franchise 🤞
Perfectly cast, not a wasted frame. The kills were great.
Eli Roth is so underrated
This movie reminds me alot of My Bloody Valentine.
Eli Roth didn't write this movie. That's why the characters and dialogue weren't all that bad. Because he's really bad at writing both but what he's great at is coming up with cool concepts/stories which is what he did with Thanksgiving along with director
Plot twist: writing was still pretty bad lmao
Just saw this on Netflix. This movie is everything a slasher movie should be. Best slasher since Scream, IMO 👍👍
Loved this movie. I'm a hermit and never see new shit but this was awesome
Agreed!
I so hope there is a fuckin sequel
McCarty gave the main girl that ring that had the little sharp edge on it and he said it’s for good luck. That Ross look a like is totally gonna be the killer in the next one. Maybe with Patrick Dempsey. So two killers in the next one.
Been watching you fuckers since right before "2018" came out, really enjoy your shenanigans 😜
I liked the movie. You can guess who the killer is and the motive pretty early on. I hope they do a sequel since multiple people survived.
Ready to Rumble
saw it twice and my thoughts are that eli roth needs to make scream 7 at this point if that other director is on the hot seat.
Idk what it is about this film but I cannot stop watching it I've seen it like 6xs
Eli Roth’s I Know What You Did Last Summer lol
Saw this today. I enjoyed it. Maybe it’ll be turned into a franchise.
The weird thing about the reveal, i got more of a Saw reveal vibe, than a scream reveal vibe.
I think it may he due to lighting or how it was filmed.
One of my favorite movies of the year
I’m glad people enjoyed this movie but, personally, I thought the trailer that came with the Grindhouse movies back in 2007 was far better. Wasn’t a fan of it at all.
Get your Waffle Iron yet, Mike??
lmao I mean I kinda want one now
Gerr-Shawn...god*ammit!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed the film. They can easily go multiple John carvers and introduce a cult in this universe
On your right shoulder (left shoulder for us) Are two white dots. I suspect Your camera lens is dirty or damaged.
My hubs and I just watched after making the rounds at three different meals. I thought it was hilarious, just what I expected. He's a big wimp when it comes to slashers!
Where the eagles dare and 3 lock box. Hagar soundtrack will b killer
Dude said man we were there 4 the addies.. rite
Sorry i can't watch this vid Mike. But Happy Thanksgiving.
You too bud!
i didn’t get 80s vibes at all %100 90s
This movie was pretty dope
Now I heard that Jenna Ortega is not going to return to scream 7 because of Wednesdays season 2 schedule this is effing stupid and ridiculous
You guys still doing a stream for this? Hv a gd thanksgiving mikel!💪💪
J hasn't seen it so this kinda is the stream lol we are live tonight though! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Mike, did you see Ortega has now dropped out of scream 7!?!? 😢
THANKSGIVING = SPYLGASS MOVIE... Can't show any support for Spyglass projects anymore after how they've shat on Scream and it's cast
That only hurts the hundreds of people employed by those movies, not the dude at the top
The camera and way he walks up to the door in the very beginning, then the weird interaction between them. I immediately said he was the killer 😂
Wasn't mad about it though.
They told us who it was immediately 5 seconds into the movie lol
I was like "yep he's obviously having an affair with the wife"
