i read somewhere rian johnson had an idea that in each sequel blanc would have a different accent and I'm really glad he didn't because craig's southern accent is iconic
Southern accent blanc did in both movies are awesome and he got a good accent coach
I don't know what possessed him to have that idea? That's not even a detail that can be upheld because of how famous he is within the canon of these films
I disagree.
Benoit's only famous for being a brilliant detective - in both films, people only know him by name and reputation. His "southern hokum" is just that - hokum - an affectation that he uses to act in contrast with his reputation and throw people off guard.
If he were on a case involving people who actually knew him, or expected his foghorn leghorn shtick, I could totally see him becoming South African or Russian or what have you to similarly fuck with them
That sounds good on paper but that would’ve been too distracting to hear a different accent each movie
Considering his name and Accent its a safe bet he is from Lousiana so a Cajun. (French Names and Language are present in Louisiana being an ex French Colony until Napoleon of all people sold it to the US)
I can't get enough of how Benoit Blanc is a badass while staying a genuinely good and kind guy. It's honestly refreshing.
It's really hard to write a character as amazing as blanc.
IKR?! They could’ve easily written him as an asshole, but they didn’t
@@ezelfrancisco1349 Was he like that in the novels?
From Bond to Blanc, Daniel Craig first reinvented James Bond and now he’s truly created the Sherlock and Poirot of the modern era.
No offense intended, but I don't think two appearances as a character puts Craig's work in the same class as, say, Jeremy Brett or David Suchet. 🐧
@@TheStockwell Yep. Daniel Craig would have to do atleast a 50 episode series for that. Please Universe make it happen 🥹
@@rawadosa90210 Ep17: "A doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a doughnut's hole in a..."
@@Imperial_Squid I think you missed a donut there 🧐
@@rawadosa90210 I'd be happy with that. I'd rather sit through fifty bad "Knives Out" films than see a trailer for another Sherlock Holmes film starring Robert Downey, Jr.
If nothing else, Benoit Blanc should make cameo appearances in other films. Which films? ALL OF THEM! Benoit Blanc is like chocolate or Jack Daniel's - anything you add him to will make it 10 times better! 🍫 🥃
Best wishes from Vermont. ❄️💙❄️
You can tell Craig is having an absolute blast, and that makes his performance really shine in both films.
I really hope we get another film 😊
@@nash6568you're in luck
I love the detail that one of them read *a tweet* about a new yorker article, while the other read the article itself, it's such great and subtle characterisation
And apparently there was a lot in that tweet.
And i think the torn out page on which ransom hired blanc also hsd the article om the bacj
Cop 1: Who hired you?
Benoit: I do not know. An envelope with cash showed up in my apartment yesterday with the news clip about Thrombey's death.
Cop 2: An envelope, that worked?
Benoit: * with an indignant look * An envelope with *cash* ...
Blanc’s Got Bills, Trooper Wagner
@@oddfreaks6452 "You will find me a seething, aggravated observer... Of my tax returns..."
The director said there is a deleted scene where the cop asks him to hand it over as evidence
And Benoit says sure, then proceeds to hand the officer an empty envelope
"En awnwaloap a' cayshh."
@@DJAvrenI feel like Blanc definitely would have gotten the envelope and cash put under forensic tests, expecting nothing but feeling he had to.
Knives Out is indeed improved by knowing there's an artsy baking husband behind the scenes wondering what tf Blanc has got himself wrangled in this time...
Wait, Benoit is gay?
@@eec589yeah, in glass onion Hugh grant plays his partner
My favorite thing is him saying he’ll be an “ornamental, passive, quiet observer” and then continually butting into the interviews lol
He was ornamental… but one of those obnoxiously loud ornaments… like an elaborate cuckoo clock. ❤. 😂
he is a quiet observer... Of the truth. He only butts in when they lie
5:46 The "Why was I hired" was the pinnacle of Craig's southern accent xD
WAH WAHS AH HAHD?
Craig going "WHY WAS I HIRED?" is one of my favorite moments
Blanc lives in his own little world. I love him.
Maybe like Daniel Craig
Like Hercule Poirot.
4:42 I think this moment defines the biggest joke in the movie: The fact that Benoit seems like a total idiot who, even tho is a good guy and likable, isn't as smart as he thinks. But then the plot twist comes when is revealed that he actually is one hell of a detective.
Its like Colombo if we didn't actually know who did it.
That movie and that plot device totally blew my mind. Early on, it subverted the mystery genre by seemingly revealing what really happened to Harlan that night. Also, it was at this point that it seemed more like Marta's movie rather than Blanc's. He then seems to not be much of a detective as he's unable to deduce what happened. Then, in the final moments, he finally goes into full Poirot-Sherlock mode as he figures out the true tale of what had happened. Turns out, he's actually a great detective.
Benoit Blanc is quickly becoming a favourite character, right up there with the likes of Sherlock Holmes. I like the guy immensely.
Not only is he fully rounded as a character, but he's quirky and witty, and full of compassion and kindness. Really an ideal combination.
@@wyndgrove9452 this is what sets him apart from the rest. He isn't as heartless or unhealthy in his obsession with his work, and he isn't as jaded and hopeless as poirot. He believes in the good in people, he knows when to be serious and when to speak out and take charge. He is calculated but not in a cold way, he does what he genuinely believes is best for people. He feels like a man who just wants to help who coincidentally is amazing at doing so.
I like him better than Sherlock.. especially the Benedict Cumberbatch version.. Blanc has more compassion and is genuinely funny.
Blanc is the best detective ever, better than sherlock
Well the actor was James bond so ofc he's very likeable
NGL in a movie about not being fooled by appearances I was fooled into thinking this guy wasn't smart.
Turns out he’s just a normal detective with a lot of personality. He’s good, but he’s fallible.
@@abhainnxv1554 if you’re talking about glass onion, that’s only partially true. He IS fallible, but the specific flaw lies in stuff he finds stupid or uninteresting. I liken it to how a master chess player might be beaten by a complete beginner, if the master assumes the novices random moves are actually planned out strategies.
He's fallible: he takes a mile to walk an inch.
@@charlesbronson2926 I posted this comment before I watched Glass Onion.
That joke about Gravity's Rainbow is honestly so damn relatable. Trying to read a Thomas Pynchon novel is like solving a murder mystery.
But Inherent Vice was such a good movie! But yes, it's hard to to tell what's actually real.
And it gets a great callback in "Glass Onion" when it's shown Serena Williams is reading it.
@@mst3KGf that's such a great detail, love that!!
@@mst3KGf Haven't seen Glass Onion yet but I like the title
LOL I just put up a comment about that and how i didn't read it in college while I saw studying screenwriting. Such a perfect writer burn at Pynchon!
We want a third Benoit Blanc film 🎥
Just Benoit Blanc crashing another small group function he wasn't invited to.🤣
We’re getting one!
We’re getting one my friend! They’ve already paid Rian Johnson for at least one more
@@dye_anna I wonder what famous song title will be chosen for the next film
@@sunsetman22 calling it now:
“Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey: A Knives Out mystery”
I love his antiquated manner of speaking and the occasional made-up words "my deauh guuhl ahm sorrah I assumed you wuh speakin' figerativelah!" "Mis-truthin'" "SWEET BEANS"
I just love that scene of him sitting in the car with his headphones in ignoring the ambulance coming up behind him until it stops and the doors slam. Then he panics.
Craig's southern gentleman accent was the best part of the movie.
That part of his character, completely threw me for a loop, when I first saw this movie.
He’s so sweet to Marta.
Easy to see why. She is probably the only innocent person in this entire case.
The donut speech is genuine laugh out loud stuff. I wonder how many takes that took 😆
“Noooot goin left! Nooot goi- oh lawwd”
Love this movie! But I never realized how many times Blanc said donut in the movie 😂
Next video, Knives Out, but every time Blanc says "donut" it gets faster.
Johnson was thinking the donut speeches might not work. Craig insisted on at least giving those donut speeches a try.
The donuts stayed. 🍩
From James Bond to Joe Bang to Benoit Blanc, Daniel Craig just excels with all these ‘B’ characters
"Mistruthin'" I'm southern and I'm stealing this. It's great 👍
Joni revealing the real depth of her shallowness in that one sentence: "I read a tweet about a New Yorker article about you."
I could NOT take him seriously at first. But as the film went on, I warmed to him. You're forced to overlook the silly accent by how brilliant a detective he is.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. I can't wait to watch the sequel
Whatever you do, don't invite him to a murder mystery. Total buzz kill
Also, you're never going to beat him to that iPad.
But his own murder mysteries do take a while so you will have something to do
Him singing "Losing My Mind" is a subtle way to expose him as 🌠
5:46 WHAA WAS AH HAAARD
Translate to English…
Blanc and Marta are my favorite. He truly cares for her
7:51 gets me everytime
"a regurgitate reaction to mistruthin'" 😂
No matter how much someone would try to explain to me what Benoit Blanc sounds like, I still was not prepared in the slightest
If someone committed a crime in these movies, it would be Daniel Craig as Blanc. Because he absolutely STOLE the show.
Funny and charismatic as it could be, a bit dramatic, and such a good person. In this movie I love how the reasures Marta that she is a good person that deserves everything.
Plus, am I the only one who thought that he was hungry during the hole “Doughnut dilema” thing?
He was probably thinking "i cwud dwu wid aw doownut right naw, no bweakfast yet"
Idk why but the line "Sweet Beans!" just makes me piss myself 😂

I want him to actually be named Benjamin white. He just says his name fancy
I wish will someday have as much fun as Daniel Craig playing Benoit Blanc
I hope Lakeith Stanfield comes back in the third Benoit Blanc movie.
Me too. Although, he most likely won’t
Wonderful film!!! I can’t wait to see the sequel
“Someting is *afoot* with this whole affair. I know it and I believe you know it too.” Oooh ok👀
I always find that quote funny since Daniel Craig fashioned his accent after Shelby Foote.
8:13 😂
I love how Benoit is riling Ransom up so much that he ends up exploding with the truth.
I want more mystery movies with Daniel Craig playing Detective Benoit Blanc. He is a riot!
We already have glass onion and there is one more in the works
This was one of the most original, modern detective heroes that was introduced in films or TV.
After 15 years of being James Bond, Daniel Craig made Benoit Blanc.
Hats off to Rian Johnson. Hopefully, he'll continue expanding this character and solve more mysteries in either films or TV.
Benoit is my favorite absolute favorite he’s an icon
What a voice. An amazing creation between Rian and Daniel.
Brilliant films - I'm looking forward to seeing more of these films.
From James Bond to Joe Bang(Logan Lucky, an underrated movie btw) to Benoit Blanc(Knives Out series) Daniel Craig had played some very interesting, awesome and iconic characters.
I know his accent is terrible but I love it so much haha
I have read more of Gravity's Rainbow than any other human alive; the first 50 pages.
The doughnut hole speech is priceless
“Now ah’m just a simple country government agent…”
I have never seen this movie, but I have a feeling I'd love to just listen to this Blanc guy talk. His mind is fascinating and his vocabulary is too.
I died laughing at this point: 4:42
This movie is like the old school mystery stories of Holmes or Poirot but set in an alternative modern day setting.
Is ‘mistruthing’ a word, because I want to use it whenever I can.
dayum he's gorgeous af
Yup
Blanc: "Something is AFOOT with this whole afair."
Clever.
4:26 when he remembered 😂
Do vultures usually carry knives? If so, I need to start worrying about vultures.

How did you publish this? I got a copyright strike for trying to publish a similar video!
I want to know the tennis champ case now
Maybe that could be the third film?
Are we just gonna overlook that iconic Thomas Pynchon burn about nobody actually reading Gravity's Rainbow? Biggest doorstop i ever had for years after I didn't read it in college. Ironically I was also studying screenwriting at the time!
This is our generation's Poirot, love it
“An envelope of cash. I do declare!”

Hearing the sentence pakistani real estate ❤ really amazed me 😊

CALEB CRAWDAD, I do declare!
WHY WAS I HIRED???? GETS ME EVERYTIME.❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Daniel Craig nail this Benoit Blanc character!
I think an origin story prequel about Benoit is needed.
But no one can play him better than Daniel himself so I'd say it should be 2D animated so that Dan can voice him instead.
I can feel like an update on Marta would be great.
Just to see how shes using the fortune and of course that cursed mansion.
Maybe fast forward a decade into the future she's married w kids and someone dies and she contacts him to solve the case
He’s definetly the (hilarious) Sherlock Holmes of XXI Century.
While I like the character of Blanc, my one issue with him is that, for supposedly being a famous Private Investigator, he sure does seem to be quite obtuse when the plot calls for it, especially when centered around issues concerning Marta.
He’s supposedly aware of the blood on her shoe and her guilt for the entirety of the movie
@@Fivehe Exactly, he ruled her out as an intentional killer instantly though. She would never have killed Harlan on purpose and, for her sake, it's better it be ruled as suicide than for her to be blamed for it
He knew she was involved the whole time. Yet he also knew whatever involvement in Harlan's death was, it was not out of malice. He even tells her later that whatever she did to muddy the waters or bend the truth he knew she had a good reason for doing, so he decided to bide his time and wait for the details to come to light, or for her to confess.

There's a key difference between Blanc and other "gentleman sleuths" - unlike Hercule Poirot or Sherlock, Blanc is basically a nice guy.
