Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757)
Sonata in G minor, K.12/L.489
The affinity guitarists have for the keyboard music of Domenico Scarlatti has remained constant since the earliest arrangements made by Segovia and his contemporaries.
The timbre of the guitar compliments the Iberian musical elements present in these sonatas, and perhaps realizes the sound the composer was imagining in their conception.
The Sonata in G minor, with it's imitative and repeated motives fits very well as an arrangement for two guitars.
Aside from being a very fun piece to perform, it serves as an excellent exercise for guitar duos to refine their balance as the melody and bass trade-off with such frequency.
Sounds so much better on two guitars than on the keyboard. The dialogue between the two instruments is entrancing. Love it. Well done, guys!
Thanks so much! I agree. It’s really fun to play too. I find Scarlatti on one guitar quite a task, but on two guitars you can have much more fun!
@@DrewHendersonGuitar Oh, and I forgot to say that the acoustics and sound quality are also amazing. Must be a very good hall for recording, or you have an extremely skillful sound engineer 😄
Insanity. The best classical guitar duo playing today that I know of.
I am listening to two giant guitar artists....i wish them health and much more success.
what i love most about this performance is that you are both using different topped guitars so you can tell when each part is playing and it really compliments the piece without really having to try
Один из самых лучших дуэтов которые слушала. Браво! !!
I could never have thought I would enjoy classic guitar as such until I listened to these gentlemen.
Excellent!!!
Another gem that never gets old. Incredible.
This performance is so good it's stunning! The sound that both guitarists produce is extremely rare. What technique! Very similar to that imparted by José Tomás, Segovia's protégée. Even the choice of concert instruments is extraordinary.
I wonder if Drew and Michael have this piece recorded? Concerto in D Minor (BWV 972) by J. S. Bach. I'd love to have that recording too!
I absolutely love classical guitar, and your performance epitomises everything that classical guitar playing is all about: deep feelings, sophistication, amazing timbres, virtuosity, intelligence, gentleness, beauty... Just superb!👍❤️
Meravigliosa esecuzione,
una versione per chitarre piacevole, sensibile, espressiva 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Wonderful interpretation ! Applause and BRAVO !!
perfektes Zusammenspiel und ein wundervoller Klang!
Please upload this to Spotify :c, is a wonderful interpretation
Amazing duo! Thanks, thanks for sharing.
Ma che meraviglia!!! La Sonata, Domenico Scarlatti e voi!!!
Scarlatti
Just like Albeniz or most other Spanish composers' piano works sound more 'natural' on the classical guitar, Scarlatti's Spanish-era pieces sound perfectly fitting to the sonority of the guitar. Magnificant.
What putz would give this a thumbs down? It is flawless!
I don’t understand that either. This is amazing
stupid trolls deadheads in things of art,
Thank you _so_ much for this favorite "travelling" sonata of mine.
Great work. Thanks for the precious moment.
Amazing performance
Uma equação perfeita: Scarlatti e a vossa performance. Simplesmente memorável! Brilhante conexão do duo.

Who gave 5 thumbs down!? Great performance.😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Scarlett served in the Spanish court so his music got much of Spanish influences despite HIM being Italian.
We're also indebted to Scarlett's penchant for gambling and the debts he accumulated. Back payment was negociated by debtors in sonatas. That's why there are 600 of them!
Uh huh

Thanx for that. Was wondering why this Italian sounded Spanish.
@@higherresolution4490 Scarlatti could never know that in the year 2020 we would still be listening to his music, all locked down with nowhere to go. I hope that somewhere (up there) he smiles each time someone plays this wonderful guitar duo.
@@catherinehamer5653 In full agreement with your comments, Catherine. Most of us can't imagine our place in the world 5 years from now-or in today's environment, one week later. SO interesting the cluster of births around 1685: J.S. Bach; Antonio Vivaldi; Dominico Scarlatti; G.F. Handel; Jean-Philippe Rameau; Sylvius Leopold Weiss [the greatest baroque lutenist 2 years Bach's junior; died the same year, 1750] and a few others. Weiss's birthday is a few days away, on October 12th.
topppp!
Just ... UAU !!!!
i liked the piece but theres alot of repetition i would have loved for it to have a really sweet release after lots of repetion and go on new journey and explore new paths
Afin de joindre le geste à la parole, vous devriez nous faire profiter de votre propre version enregistrée, de telle sorte que par comparaison nous puissions juger la pertinence de votre argumentation ...
Beautiful. What guitars are they please?
Absolutely beautiful and so much more interesting than any piano version I've heard.
Try Alice Ader!
Kevin Sorbo (hercules) and iolaus.

This is better than pizza and beer.
pretty metal...
no
A lot of modern music is derived from older work, under a wave of constant expansion and reinvention. Even Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven is similar to a bunch of other pieces, which are in turn similar to a piece created by Turlough O'Carolan. If you trace things back, you end up in the 1600s talking about a blind Irish harper, and how his song ended up becoming a major theme in popular rock music for a while.

This music is nowhere similar to metal. This is driven by the melody, not the beat. Fundamentally different.
Metal would evolved out of "Negro spiritual" and not classical music.
@@Benn61 - ...because white people would've never thought to emphasize beat over melody, and black people would've never thought to emphasize melody over the beat. You do realize how racist you sound, right?
@@Benn61 Obviously you haven't listened to melodic metal like Wintersun.
Fantastic!
