Guitar: 1959 Viuda y Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso (Conde Hermanos) SP/IN - www.guitarsalon.com/product/1...
Here's George Sakellariou performing Paul Desmond's "Take Five" from the album "Time Out" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet. George recorded this piece on a vintage 1959 Viuda y Sobrinos de Domingo Esteso (Conde Hermanos) classical guitar built with spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at Apogee Electronics (ApogeeDigital.com) for the use of their Ensemble interface in these recordings.

Guys he is my teacher 😊❤❤❤ he is a great human being too.
Do you have a good transcription of this piece?
Guy is an absolute unit
@@joshuareynolds4525
I believe the term is G Unit.
@@kjzmusic You can get this piece and many more of him on CD.
old man guitar knowledge hit different, i liked my teacher very much
This is not guitar playing. It's magic.
Couldn't agree more
Miracle 👏👏
Not magic, Practice, practice, practice 🪄
@@iamprincemuel Nope. It's magic, magic, magic. 😄
No, it is a guitar that he is playing well.
if there was ever a tune that wasn't meant to be played on the guitar , this is it. the fact that he can do this so smoothly is amazing.
So, why NOT for guitar? Isn't it music, we love and appreciate?
You go listen to "Pictures at an Exhibition" (Modest Mussorgsky) Kazuhito Yamashita [Guitar] (copy this to search field in UA-cam). It's here. I think that's the most impossible-to-play guitar arrangement EVER, and I think it also set the standard - and the base notion that "It can be done" following which - this piece was arranged for the Guitar.
Besides this - this thing is really a joy.
Ultimately the most demanding playing on any instrument ever!@@MottiShneor
@@gufra9835 He means its not an easy tune to play on a guitar
@@gufra9835 I agree believe there is guitar in the original arrangement, however had the OP said one guitar only it may have been more on point. I once heard a guy play it beautifully on accordion in the subway.
I’ve tried and failed so many times at getting anything close to this fluidity with Take 5 on guitar…bravo, maestro!
Yes, me too. That 5/4 time just kills me every time. I think I have it, play with a click track, and discover that I have an "interesting rubato". 🤣
@@RAkers-tu1eyThrow away the metronome. Go for a walk.
@@whatilearnttoday5295 Good Idea!
yeah, it looks very difficult but he keeps it flowing brilliantly
@@RAkers-tu1ey Oh those "intersting rubatos!" Thanks for giving me my new excuse!!
Mr. Brubeck would be proud of this.
In fact, it was Paul Desmond who composed Take Five, and then delivered a million different improvisations on it in the second part.
Chet atkins who wrote this arrangement in 1973 would have been proud aswell
I hope he thinks the god that created this Earth for the talent he gave us
Paul Desmond wrote it.
and Paul, who wrote the tune...
What an incredible rendition. I bet this man has played this song thousands of times. It definitely shows.
It ain't a song cos it ain't got no words. It's a toon.
@@joeoak8181 A toon is what you get in newspapers or sunday mornings on the kids channel. What you mean is a tune.
Wow, this is a tremendous gem! Flows like liquid mercury yet has the precision of a surgeons scalpel whilst retaining the delicate sweetness of this nuanced piece. Great respect for his experienced and skilful playing.
Ah, I don't have to comment.
this is excellent man. I've been playing for almost 50 years and this a just another level of totally awesome.
Yeah it is. You’re speakin my language… “a whole ‘nother level of totally awesome…”
👍
Non stop?
50 years for me, too! The kids say I'm way too loud. I say What?
The phrasing this guitarist used is the work of a true master....... Exquisite.
as a young jazz guitarist trying to study classical too, I enjoyed lessons with george for a couple years at SSU.. and went to a couple of carmel guitar festivals where george was a major presence.. maybe about 77’ or 78’ ? great to see george still going strong! thanks for sharing.. 🎸😎
Thank you.
The crux of the biscuit is the apostrophe.

You can say that again !
Good Lord, that is exquisitely sublime. Perfect pitch, perfect timing - just a masterclass in tone and control. Thank you for this!
Guy appears older than me. Gives me hope!
I can't guess how many times I've heard those chords without actually noticing them. Part of what was remarkable about this performance is how simultaneous elements were kept so distinct and clear.
He faithfully expressed “Take Five” with just one guitar, it is amazing !
Beautiful and accurate arrangement and brilliant performance. BRAVO!
The most beautiful guitar I have ever heard and I am 83, thank you for bringing this to my attention
The tone of the guitar grabbed me first, and then the artistry kicked in!
The talent of making something complicated look so easy , Bravo Maestro 👏
I adore this man. Such a great and oldschool guitarist
"it dont mean a thing if it aint got that swing" very well played, but its got to swing!
@@RobertSlover It also has so improvisation. It's not a jazz performance, it's just a classical guitar interpretation of an iconic jazz track. I admire him not for this recording only, but for the exceptional music he has already recorded. I quite like this interpretation of this theme, though, it's on beat and he expresses the sound of the spanish guitar through it very well.
@@TantoFaz13 jazz must swing period.
@@RobertSlover It's not jazz
@@RobertSlover
It swings, if you're deaf it's your problem
64 years old guitar and still playing and sounding Wonderfully well and of course the guitarist … thanks so much for sharing… Awesome 👏🏻 🎸🌿
In the world of baroque music, an instrument of that age would be considered "just broken in", lol. Hopefully a couple centuries from now that wondrous assembly will still be wowing listeners, in "fully mature voice"!
The result of a lifetime of dedication to craftsmanship and perfection …and love.
That performance was simply wonderful!
George can play anything - clarity, tone, continuity, interest ,form; it's always there.
They say music is connetcting us to heaven. This old guy did connect me for good :)
Wow! God's blessings to the world, music and people like Paul Desmond!!!
Amazing arrangement of one of the most timeless melodies ever written. Job well done!!! This is destined to go viral!
Good Lord!!! I am stunned!! Simply a BEAUTIFUL rendition!!
Well that put a smile on my face.
Beautiful!
Besides being an astounding performance, the tone on that guitar is amazing. Awesome is a word used too often these days to describe a good performance. This is awesome. In the true meaning of the word.
Would not have thought Take Five would lend itself so well to solo guitar. Boy, was I wrong.
One of my favorite pieces of music, very cool.
Wow - I'm in awe!
This is a very intricate piece & every note counts - played with perfection. Bravo!
This is nothing short of phenomenal.
Hawt damn -- that was awesome.
A very talented guitar player, incredible!
It's like a little masterclass. Beautifully done.

And the tempo is just so right! Perfectly fluid lines. Absolutely marvelous. Maestro...full salute to you.
Bravissimo,bellissima interpretazione...grande tecnica e ritmo
Great playing and feel, I've never heard this tune played solo on guitar
Legend has it that this young gentleman began learning this song, on the guitar, at the age of 15. He's finally playing perfectly. Congratulations!!!
Diz a lenda que esse jovem senhor começou a aprender essa música, no violão, aos 15 anos. Finalmente está tocando perfeitamente. Parabéns!!!
Rsrsrsrs 🙌
Nice work! Magical! Thanks!
I'm not a guitar aficionado, but this is excellent to my ears.
A beautiful melody played by a master on an extraordinary instrument. Delicious candy for my ears.
Just five seconds into the tune I already knew I had to "like" it. Absolutely gorgeous playing. Bravo!
Excelente interpretación...!!!👍👏👏

I’m a huge fan of Take Five. I’ve listened to many covers on a variety of instruments.
This is extraordinary!
Absolutely love it!
Merci beaucoup. Bien joué.
Wow! That's amazing! I started playing classical guitar a few years ago but I won't ever reach this level of greatness.
Bravo. Truly beautiful rendition of the great classic.
Wow.
Master piece
Absolutely beautiful!
Espectacular éste arreglo, simplemente perfecto!...
perhaps due to my advancing age, i'm finding many live music pieces played at a slightly fast tempo, rushed. a shame really given that clarity of the tone which is a difficult task in itself; but if one is to compare this piece with even less competent versions, one can find more changes of intensity as well as rhythm, which color my palette.
Absolutely stunning, thanks for this beautiful music, made my day. PEACE AND LOVE TO EVERYONE ❤❤.
Great arrangement!
beautiful! So fluid & almost appears effortless (which is in no way possible!).
ΥΠΕΡΟΧΟΣ!!!⚘️👏👏
Never heard THIS one on CG. George nails it. Wow.
Wonderful!
One of the best songs of all time. Great rendition. Hard to believe this is just one guitar.
Well played Sir , excellent
