Zeke, I have had an interest in wildfire for most of my life, without ever being able to understand how fires behave (and why) and how fires are fought (and why). Only now, with your amazing in-depth explanations and maps, am I finally beginning to figure it out. Sincere thanks!!
Thank God the SRC Fire is now moving away from Redwood groves. Smith River 199 is perhaps the most beautiful River in the U.S. This fire is such a sad loss for everyone in the surrounding areas. The spiritual and practical impacts of the fire and losses is broadly felt by those who love and live amongst these lands. Pray, sing and dance for rain.
Dang it. I was really hoping we would be spared more land. Praying for Gasquet. We have power in my section of town from xlarge generators. I’m devastated. After losing everything in the Camp Fire, going through even the power outages are beyond triggering. I dont wish this on anyone. A part of your soul dies when you lose the area you loved.
Hi Zeke. Sorry you missed your day off. Doesn't sound as if fire is taking one either. The low spinning over norcal brought some smoke into the bay area today. Hazy and warmer. 👋👱♀️🐾
I haven't had any good luck with the perimeter KML's for G/E - always fails to load, or, doesn't load correctly with weird poly draws. Graphis settings doesn't seem to make a difference, and I've had the same thing on 3 different PC's. Curious what KML's you're using here?
I love that drive between crescent city and cave junction, but cave junction to grants pass is pretty dry country and has burned so many times. Thanks for sharing. 😊
They're setting up generators in Crescent City to power up some of the sub stations. Ours got turned back on yesterday. Lots of Pacific Power workers in town along with CalTrans and the Fire crews. Pretty sure they evacuated Gasquet already. Highway 199 is closed down. VT247
Thank you Zeke! I wish there were more resources to help put out these fires. CA has had so many years to budget and prepare for that. Wonder where all the money went?
Unstaffed in the middle of sacred redwoods. No care for the lives of those ancients of the animals who dwell there. Bear and coyote already wandering down in the rouge valley.
They are rater under staffed the county with power companies are Bringing in massive generators to help with the power shortage but the mean issue also is so many of the residents are elderly and on wells and the air quality is poor .our community is pulling together to help on another and lucky are Neighbors Brookings are helping. It just 199 is not easy to get to so bring in help takes time the Train is super rugged in foresty making it even hard to contal we are list as top priority but with So many fires across the nation everyone is war thin
Thank you for the information. I have family in Gasquet. Praying for rain.
What can be said but thanks and please continue your reports and perceptions!
Thank you Friend ... Brookings
Thank you for the Smith River update....hard to find detailed info.
Thanks for all your work.
Thank you

Thanks Zeke! So concerned for the redwoods.
It has cooled off wonderfully here in Salyer, just east of Willow Creek, threatening rain but nothing much yet. Thank you for the update.

Those fingers of growth to the north, across the Oregon border, are what I am monitoring. Any info on those would be great.

Finally got power this morning. Air quality was horrible. Couldn't sleep and lungs hurt.

I want to help Canada, but are these fires unstaffed because we sent firefighters to Canada?

I live 4 miles from the srf complex fire. Been on a generator for 5 days
Note: this area is "kinda" used to it. Most here have generators and I live for this type of "doomsday" shit lol. Stay safe
We need to privatize our Firefighting .
