Similar progression, I'm 29 but grew up very rural with no cable and dial up internet. Around 7th grade metalcore and emo came to the small town I got bussed in to for school. At the time I was neck deep in Metallica, Black Flag, Iron Maiden, the Ramones yadda yadda. I was just starting to feel "cool n tuff" and suddenly started inexplicably getting lumped in with neon wusses! I imagine it would be like wearing a Possessed shirt in the 80s and getting roasted because Winger sucks. Like wtf does that crap have to do with me? I don't like Winger/Fall Out Boy/etc either! Now to be fair, since then I've come to appreciate some metalcore. The 90s had some good stuff, Botch, Integrity, Rorschach, Deadguy, the first Earth Crisis ep. Still can't tolerate much pop punk though lol
And with little timmys decent, he realized babymetal was the tip of the idolcore iceberg. There's still a chance to save him, but he'll have to go deeper to discover PassCode, he'll learn Marty Friedman worked with them, which will make him nostalgic so he'll rise back up from the depths.

But once your through all the tiers you circle back to it. You embrace it. You realize that there is only one true metal band. And it only can be Manowar.
This video was great, I loved the comedic take on this as opposed to the normal doom and gloom of these videos. I'm around level 5. I currently love Sunn, like slam and a ton of other death metal, I like funeral doom, and plenty of other stuff from early levels too. I can't descend fully though, I just can't get into harsh black metal and extreme grind hahaha

I can pick and choose some stuff I like from Emperor and Darkthrone but it’s definitely been the hardest genre to approach

Greaaaaaat band I would also put Conqueror. They’re literally just Revenge but even more obscure because they’re what turned into Revenge Alternatively, I’d put “Timmy starts his very own slam band”

Some darkwave and noise projects are darker than metal itself so there is a point where you are not on the Iceberg anymore
