this is a cover version of whiskey in the jar. this song is a traditional irish folk song. it was covered by the dubliners and thin lizzy. The solo is composed by eric bell ( ex thin lizzy )
You are correct. This is a traditional Irish folk song that has been covered thousands of times by various artists. Thin Lizzy is probably the most famous cover and the Dubliners did a very good folk version.
Loved your reaction Inna! The chorus sounds like "Musha ringa dum a do duma da". Asked my Irish friend what it means. He said it's "Muisce rinne don a do amadan". Loose translation is "Have some whisky to pass the time."
Hi Inna! I also have tickets for Metallica next month here in Munich and I can't wait! 🤘
I always enjoy watching your reactions, Inna, because they are so genuine. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Awesome reaction Inna !!!! Keep it up. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
This song was a traditional Irish drinking song... and in 1972, Irish rockers Thin Lizzy made it into a rock single courtesy of bassist/ vocalist Phil Lynott and it became a moderate hit in Europe in '73... Thin Lizzy would break big in 1976 w/ their album 'Jailbreak'... Their twin lead guitar sound was a huge influence on bands like Iron Maiden... Megadeth ... and Metallica.
Metallica's late bassist Cliff Burton was a huge Thin Lizzy fan & Phil Lynott fan... So, Metallica decided to record a cover of Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the jar" in 1998 for their covers album 'Garage inc.'
Sadly, both Phil Lynott and Cliff Burton died the same year (1986)... Phil Lynott from organ failure after years of drug abuse... and Cliff Burton in a tour bus crash in Sweden... 😪
Megadeth also recorded a Thin Lizzy cover - 'Cold sweat'.
Just FYI, Metallica released a double album of all covers and there are some great ones on it. It’s called Garage Inc.
They usually only play/played this song in Ireland, but they did a By Request tour where fans with tickets could vote for songs, sadly many regular songs was voted in as well, we really have a chance of something super special, I think it was only 1 country, Finland, that got Frayed Ends of Sanity, first time ever played and I believe it hasn't been played since.. And they played St. Anger for the first time in about 8 years here in Denmark along Whiskey for the first time outside Ireland, such an awesome show despite a lot of regular setlist songs.
You should check out the new metallica video from the Elton John tribute concert. It came out the other day, the song is called Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding in my hands
Excellent song a++
This song will never get old Thin Lizzy also did this song love your reaction Inna

Metallica, live Slane Castle Ireland. That was the best version of their cover of Whiskey in the Jar. I recommend you check it out!!
You should check out this song live from Slane Castle in Ireland
Well, it's been 45 years or so since I've been to a party like that. 😮
If this was the first Metallica song I heard I would dig it. But…… I was born in 1970 so…….. it wasn’t my Metallica. I’m old enough to enjoy it now.
❤❤❤
I will always come here for Metallica and Iron Maiden videos lol. Hope your guitar practicing is going well!
I would stay for that 4 hour concert of Maiden and Metallica 🤘🏽😎
GREAT SONG CHOICE TO REACT INNA
❤ 🎶 👏👏👏
So, others have already told you, but you are correct. It is a very old Irish folk song that's been done by so many, but probably most famously by Irish folk band The Dubliners in the 60s, and Thin Lizzy, who were an Irish rock band from the 70s, that did the first rock n roll version of the song, which this is a cover of.
If memory serves, this song came out when Metallica was kind of on a low because of the Napster thing. Which if you don't know, is a whole thing where people were first downloading music illegally for free on line, which was pissing off the record companies and established music industry, and Metallica publicly took a stand against people stealing their music, and took Napster, the big music sharing website that was like the first of its kind that everyone was using, to court, which was not popular. Before Metallica had really gone mainstream with the Black album, they had always been pretty appreciative and dedicated to their loyal fan base, but the Napster thing made their fans feel attacked, like Metallica were wealthy rock stars who sold out, and were turning their backs on them because they were more worried about collecting every dollar that they could. I know all of this is more common and established now, but this was just happening for the first time then, and people were pretty emotional about it, and a lot of Metallica fans stopped being fans, at least for a while, and Metallica had a rough patch where they had gone from being one of the hugest bands in the world, to being kind of hated by many. Anyways, I think this came out of that period, they were Thin Lizzy fans, and they just did the cover of this song for fun.
Your memory is bad then. This came out in 1998....years before the whole Napster thing. I don't think any loyal fans were against them or felt attacked as they already owned the albums anyway. It was just all the freeloaders that were all pissy about it or people that didn't like them in the first place. I don't think it hurt them too much, they still continued to sell out stadiums and still do to this day. I think history has proven them to be correct on the stance they took. Hasn't changed a thing though, bands don't sell much records anymore and the streaming services are taking the artists for a ride. That's why concert ticket prices are huge now as that's the main income source.
My band used to have a house that was dedicated to this. We would hold house practices and the booze, drugs, and sex were flowing. Everyone we had to take damage assessment. 🤘
Irish Folk !!
6:08 fun things. there's nothing graphic here.
I think, I noticed Teylor Momsen from "The Pretty Reckless" 2:39
That is not Taylor Momsen , she was only 5 years old 1998.
