  • These brand new autumn release Fag Packet Mk3s are here and being tested out on the track mat layout.
Thanks the Chris' Crafts and Model Railways in Plymouth for getting these in.
Mixed results but overall very pleased with mine.

A very comprehensive review, I looked forward to more from you. The noisy wheels I changed on my cross country coaches, it’s a shame the new Mk 3 are the same. I find Hornby R8220 couplings work well either pulling or especially pushing. Finally I wish manufacturers would stop using kinematic couplings they are hopeless, they are always sticking, not too bad if going round corners in same direction but entering a opposite one it’s a real problem. Bill.

I looked at this when hornby first released the sliding door coaches...... ua-cam.com/video/w1QPtK5c00I/v-deo.html
      Similar but not the same

@@D402DDS To be fair, that video isn't conclusive. Hornby could have revised those bits of the OR Mk3a that are poor or too fragile in which case they wouldn't look exactly the same. When the blue ones come out I'll take one apart and compare.

The stripes might be straight but youve still got the huge air bubbles on every door

Hi, great coaches and they match the older Lima quite well.
The derailing could be any number of reasons. You changed the couplings, but maybe remove the centring springs. The magnets hold the bars rigid. Alternatively have you checked the track? Any undulations, dips, kinks can cause issues. Maybe also add a couple of 10g wheel weights to each coach may help to secure them to the track.
    Hoping to be helpful.

      Hello,
I've always had issues with the spring return couplings as the stretch around the curves and due to the weight of the trains, they stay extended. I've heard the removal of the springs may help.
My long term plan is to build a larger layout with smoother curves.

@@D402DDS I’ve had this style of coupling stick too. If you rather not remove the spring, simple oiling the coupling mechanism can sometimes help

Great review, but how does the lighting options work in the coach .. is there pre-fitted wiring and leds? What is the black strip above the seats for? I think I'll opt for a 6 coach rake .. theres just too much weight to push unless you motorise the dummy.
I spy a RS200 at the Ford show...!!

I looked it up before doing the video and hornby sell a mk3 coach lighting kit. Looks like the battery pack sits in the space under the coach and then the light bar attaches to that black strip. Havnt looked to see where the wires would feed through.

I don't understand why British manufacturers can't get these couplings to work. German brands work flawlessly even on N guage.
