Where to start..?! Well first off, I don't like how Ian & Sylvia have faded into history a bit because they were terrific, didn't remember his voice being so good. Then when Judy came in it was goose bumps, what a clarion, gorgeous voice! Instantly recognizable. Her sister Holly Collins went to a boarding high school with me and Judy sang at one graduation, wow
Nostalgic and evocative, performers so much more refined in taste and feeling than of these past decades ( spoken as a 58 year old). Has there ever been a male/female singing duo like Ian and Sylvia, what a lovely blending of voices.
First heard this song in '64 or '65. The Kingston Trio did it with the great, now deceased John Stewart on lead. It was wonderful, Then heard it by Judy Collins and she took it to another level. Then by Ian and Silvia and really discovered Ian's beautiful voice. Then by Suzy Bogus and she did a swell version of this. Fact is, it is a classic and many people have done it and well. It seems to be the kind of song that elevated the artist doing it. Beautiful story in the words.
Ian Tyson is the greatest! His beautiful voice and great song writer are incomparable. It's such a tragedy that he lost his voice. I have all of his CDs and play them whenever I travel, especially when I travel into western Canada.
John sang this song at a Show in the Oshawa Arena about 20 years ago. It was shortly after we lost our daughter Shannon. Needless to say it is a song that always will be in my heart.
I can't even count the number of times I played, sang and loved this song! It's great to hear it with Judy Collins too! Brings back many great memories!
F Stephen Stills this is the inspiration of Mr Tyson from his authentic rodeo cowboy life in Alberta, not some fake shit from Stephen Stills. I’m glad Ian Tyson got the royalty cheques they are well deserved and Stephen Still’s cover is not that bad.
Ian, Sylvia and Judy....three great reasons why CBC should continue to support talent...and why funding for Canadian productions should be increased. I agree John! let's have access to these concerts!
The Kingston Trio recorded this song very soon after it was written in 1965. The great John Stewart sang lead on it. It was the version that set the standard for this song. Most people who sing this song seem to do it better than the other songs they do. It is a cowboy classic that lifts the artist doing it. I have heard Suzy Boggus, Judy Collins (Stills & Nash), Crystal Gayle(Tyson), Patty Lovelace and all are good versions. This is a relatively modern cowboy song that still encompasses the cowboy spirit and the strength of young romance and old experience. Just darn good writing and just great singers who recognize a fun, classic song. Thanks to Ian for breaking his leg(literally) and opting for a career change.
I'm glad that singers continue to accept the risk of comparison, to sing this song in ways that keep it in our minds & on our radios. They might get tagged as Western, Folk, Country, or anything else -- but no matter, it's good that new branches grow from these excellent roots.
“Ian says that it’s helped a lot on the ranch. Helped with the cattle feed and through a hard winter or two” - Judy Collins on her hit with Steven Stills. Love how Ian is such a cowboy 🤠
@minter74 I was lucky to see James perform with Elvis and Emmy Lou Harris (one of the best shows I ever saw--Glen Hardin was in that band too) . Also fortunate to see Buddy when he was in the Everly Brothers band.
+Kaedon Halliday Give your teacher an A+ this is a great song lyrically and melodically. It has a moving bass line and great major to minor changes.Rock is kinda allergic to minor chords. There's not a power minor chord.
My wife & I were fortunate to see them at the Mississippi River Festival, near St. Louis, years ago. It was a super performance by one of our favorite groups. Canadian Bluegrass, American Folk, what a blend. Miss their recording & I'm living in the past.
sorry it has taken 1 tr to respond but his was my favorite dong in 1964 - sang it every time i could. was stationed in denver (from philly),met a girl way above my station in life, married her in denver, had 2 sons, later divorced and still love her. unfortunately, the scenario for me and her family is very close to this song
I grew up listening to Suzy Bogguss' version, so this one is strange on the ears. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful, but just not what I'm used to, so it sounds real different.
Ian was an early member of the Me Too crowd, disdained for his bad behavior toward women when drunk. And yes that is despicable. But unlike the apes who do this because that is what they are, Ian was not a misogynist. Watch here as he happily shares the stage with two great female artists, Sylvia and Judy Collins. And more to the point, THEY chose to share the stage with HIM. One of the few things the Christians are right about is forgiveness. Start here.
For most of my life I would have somewhat resisted even feeling that 'American Country' music touched a heartstring in me, let alone ever saying that it did. But you know... That after so many decades of being so very 'country' myself yet without ever making any kind of 'song and dance' about it, I just have to say that there is something in the blood that really does connect you to this music. I now understand that it's truly in the soul of those who are truly country, where once I didn't see it that way. I certainly do now and I guess if the truth be known, I probably always did believe it deep down. Great music. Its about people and their lives and for me that beats a hell of a lot of the jibber out there.
+rachelpeine77 Ok I didn't know that but regardless, the music and people all feel very much the same things or have in common what I was trying to say in my previous post. Its all too easy to put on a big hat and to pick up a guitar which many do but when a person is 'true country' then that's just what they are. Hope that sort of made sense?
Blue Northern? I suggest you need to look for a '60s '70s band of this name in the Vancouver scene, development from Cement City Cowboys. I'll tell you that there's gold in them thar hills. Find some original recordings. CITR or CFRO radio probably has some.
Nope, that band too late; I & S recorded it in 1964. It's a weather front. "The proper term is actually "Blue Norther" (without the final "n") and yes, it's a cold front that comes down from the North Pole and blows across the great plains. Temperatures have been recorded to drop 60 degrees or more in a matter of a few hours when a true Blue Norther starts blowing." "A cold wind that blows down towards the U.S border along the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains.." Pretty clear from the song... and common;ly used in Texas.
I miss seeing them in concert so thank you so much for this beautiful video. I was stuck in Carbondale, Illinois with prep school and then pneumonia.. Oh I wish I could have their autographed poster of them .
A Canadian folk music icon. He will be sorely missed. RIP Ian.
RIP Ian Tyson. Thank you for this beautiful song.
I'm from Glasgow Scotland and I've never heard about this guy but he really is amazing amazing and I'll be listening to him in the future ❤❤❤❤❤
R.I.P. Ian Tyson. Superb Canadian songwriter. Best example of a "cowboy poet" I can think of.
Ian Tyson, dead today at 89.
Thank you Ian for your music and your songs. 😢

I'm so grateful Dad played Ian and Sylvia for me when I was a kid. I love this music Thanks Dad!!

For those of us who remember "those days long ago", this brings tears. Wouldn't it be nice to see them do this just one more time today??
Ian Tyson is the greatest! His beautiful voice and great song writer are incomparable. It's such a tragedy that he lost his voice. I have all of his CDs and play them whenever I travel, especially when I travel into western Canada.

Wow, Judy Collins...what an excellent singer.
Just rediscovered this song. What a beautiful melody, really.
Lord, what beautiful harmonies! One of my favorite songs, always brings a tear to my eye.
unmatched
The Basement Tapes
Always great to hear the original composer perform.
Judy’s voice...one of the greatest
Marvelous song, and this is a beautiful performance. Judy's voice remains clarion clear after all these years. :)
she is truly the definition of brilliance !!!
She has an amazing voice, one of the best!
At 73, STILL one of the best looking women ever to grace our musical minds.....
I can't even count the number of times I played, sang and loved this song! It's great to hear it with Judy Collins too! Brings back many great memories!
Here, we have 175 years of singing experience and it all GOOD!
We owe a debt to Stephen Stills at the time for convincing her to record this song. (He later immortalized her with a 'Suite'...)
R I P IAN TYSON you will be sorle missed in Canadian country music
Ian, Sylvia and Judy....three great reasons why CBC should continue to support talent...and why funding for Canadian productions should be increased. I agree John! let's have access to these concerts!
CBC is the Gay and Indian network these days.
Concerts like this should be available on cd and/or dvd .
I'll never support cbc cause they use stuff like this to use as a smokescreen for who they actually are....manipulating lying bastards
Wonder what Sylvia was REALLY feeling about Judy on stage with Ian.
Were they involved ? I've never heard that before
The Kingston Trio recorded this song very soon after it was written in 1965. The great John Stewart sang lead on it. It was the version that set the standard for this song. So very great to hear this by the original writer of this masterpiece and his wife, and the great Judy Collins.....
I like Suzy' cover of this song, but Judy Collins version is my favorite.
A timeless, classic song. It will always be loved.
Top 100 song going back to the beginning of time! This is musical perfection!
Another passing at the end of 2022. Will miss his voice and music. RIP Ian Tyson
Most of you guys are too young to know that before there were people called the Beatles, these people ruled the world.
No they didn't.
crosstimbers2 laconia Tucker did it as well or better but Ian ROCKS
crosstimbers2
I am older than the lot of you. Tyson was barely known in the lower 48.
Don Rice ...I remember Don....I’m melting...
Judy Collins is one of my favorites!
Dec. 29th, 2022,
RIP Mr. Ian Tyson.
“Ian says that it’s helped a lot on the ranch. Helped with the cattle feed and through a hard winter or two” - Judy Collins on her hit with Steven Stills. Love how Ian is such a cowboy 🤠
Being successful enough to never have to worry about jobs or money or shit helps a lot on the 'ranch' too :)
(still love this performance)
Great song, beautifully sung. Judy's artistry is so beautiful to watch. One...make that 3 of the greats!!!
My God what a crystal clear humdinger of a voice. Judy Collins hasn't lost a step--BEAUTIFUL!
@minter74
I was lucky to see James perform with Elvis and Emmy Lou Harris (one of the best shows I ever saw--Glen Hardin was in that band too) . Also fortunate to see Buddy when he was in the Everly Brothers band.
This is just a wild guess, but you're not a millennial??? LOL
Gotta listen to these songs for class. Not my type of music but I see why people call them classics
+Kaedon Halliday Give your teacher an A+ this is a great song lyrically and melodically. It has a moving bass line and great major to minor changes.Rock is kinda allergic to minor chords. There's not a power minor chord.

three of the best ever, beautifull music
Catch Suzy Boggus version.
Hers is best for sure. Good song in any case.
Cut and print it, that's a wrap !!!!
RIP Mr. Tyson...29-12-2022

Wow Judy is so goooooooooooood
Ian still looking like a young buck at 53, great voices all around.
you realize this video is from 1986 ... and yes ... everyone likes younger 35+ years ago ..
Now, Ian is 86 (as of Sept 2019) ...
NEVER EVER WILL WE SEE AND BE BLESSED BY ARTISTS OF THIS STATURE NEVER
"The song gives a lot back." --Judy Collins
Who wrote it? Ian Tyson
It's a beautiful song no matter who sing this.
This is still the best version no matter how you slice your Canadian bacon :)
Wow!Great version of Ian's classic song.Sweet Judy Blue Eyes is 74 today.Happy birthday!!Moe Bandy did it also.

Bogguss.any.day❤
This song gave me back my musical life!
those were the days
Too true Daisy.
Nostalgic and well done. Remembrances of a simpler (or seemingly) time
Some great Canadian talent awesome to see this video!
This dudes voice is like melting butter...
Not nowadays though, unfortunately...
Gorgeous! All of them together, too.
@@alan4sure Of course not. He's 85 now.
Crowds are so stupid.
They have a chance to hear Judy Collins sing "Someday Soon" and they immediately start making noise instead of listening.
2021. Still brilliant.
I grew up listening to Suzy Bogguss' version, so this one is strange on the ears. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful, but just not what I'm used to, so it sounds real different.

This is talent
So beautiful
I love this song. It gets to me for some reason.
? The Canadian Stephan Foster. Very lovely and transcendent music. Song you can sing yourself.
Wow, what a treat, perfect harmony
ive a big fan of ian and sylvia tyson maybe 55 years or more and judy collins
Most remakes are not that good. This one, though, I think is very nice. I'm glad that this song helped out, for everyone.
R.I.P. Ian
Actually, I prefer Suzy Boguss singing this song to Judy Collins. Great to see Ian and Sylvia though.
FOREVERMORE JUDY COLLINS
I love hearing old songs i used to love. They bring memories you can always go back to...
I thought Sylvia wrote this song ?
Nope. She wrote "You Were On My Mind" Ian wrote "SomeDay Soon"
Shoot that's good!
Ian and Judy dont harmonize . . . just sayin' No one sang it better than Judy, not even Suzy Bogguss
RIP Ian Tyson. I remember seeing this show live on TV. The whole show is now on UA-cam.
PROFOUND !
barkbarkbarkbarkable This is so genuine country music ! This is one of the favorites of mine.

+Tom Tee it's actually Canadian (Ian and Sylvia), and it was made popular in the US Folk community by Judy Collins, so feel less guilty :)
+rachelpeine77 Ok I didn't know that but regardless, the music and people all feel very much the same things or have in common what I was trying to say in my previous post. Thank you so much....in college in 1965 I collected Ian and Sylvia and Joan and Bobby
Just love this. Back when it started.
A dream record of mind wouuld include these two female singers with Joni Mitchell, and Loreen McKennitt.
You can tell this was produced by CBC. Who else would have voice overs in the middle of a song?
I just wonder when those boneheads at CBC will ever release this concert!!! I would LOVE to have these performances.
Fantastic job by such a talented trio. I enjoy this type of music!!!
Perfect version!
Truly a CLASSIC. So wonderfully performed by three GREAT talents !
great performance..nice sound good memories
This was the most horrible trio way to sing "Someday soon"! Pardon my honesty.

Makes ya cry.
it's nice song
This was 1986, from an I&S reunion special
Suzy Boggus? How about Judy Collins/Buddy Emmons and James Burton. Life did not start in 1985!
Darren and Brooke Aldridge do a knock-out version of this GREAT song!
My smile is a mile wide right now.
I miss seeing them in concert so thank you so much for this beautiful video. I was stuck in Carbondale, Illinois with prep school and then pneumonia.. Oh I wish I could have their autographed poster of them .
I hope it wasn’t Covid?
Excellent!!!😊🎶🌻
Love this Song .........:)
