Lowko: "In this match, Scarlett goes for a very strange Zerg Strategy" Me, watching a video called Scarlett's NEW Mass Hydralisks!: "Oh wow, I can't wait to see what she goes for"
*Scarlet was known as the creep-spreading queen; She was the one who come up with map-wide creep spreading back in the days and other Zerg pros decided that it was a very legit race-based strat and followed it through. It's thought as common nowadays but the focus technique was on her back then
Pretty much every bread and butter unit outside of the Marine got fucked in SC2. Zealots and Hydras are doodoo, capital ships are meh, tanks are glass cannons... I was soooop excited when this game came out ya know? Was solely mistaken. It's gotten better over time, just reminds me of the original X-Men movie, just a hard let down ya know? No costumes? @@mitchmitting102 I like admec models, I think they're some of the coolest, unfortunately I think it's gonna take at least another edition before they're playable without spending a fortune and still be fun.
I loved all the casting combinations at IEM K! You & ZG sounded sooooo good together and Pig does such a great job hyping up big moments. I'd love to see a tiny hydra buff as they are my favorite zerg unit from the lore.
I suck at SC2, but as a Starcraft1 veteran, I can safely say that's Starcraft1 strategy. Which is what I was doing when I was trying zerg in SC2 and... yea didn't work out for me. SC1 was Hydra, ling Defiler using the dark swarm and later Guardians.
the fact that you say she is crazy. might as well call marines "cheerleaders" and ultralisks "faeries" . This insanity needs to stop. It ruins everything it touches!
I love watching scarlett, she always brings such silly and creative play to the table when most others are afraid to try something new. This is also incredibly fun because hydras are still my favorite unit and have been since sc1 so its nice to see them get some love.
I'm not convinced her Hydra gameplan is as bad as Raynor thinks. Honestly, had she just gotten even a couple more Vipers she probably would have overrun that front door in the first game much sooner since it was only really the tanks that were giving her grief. The ultras were absolutely a mistake, more Vipers and maybe a few more drones to keep the mining up. Impressive map control as usual from our local legend ❤ nice to see Scarlett still on top of her game.
My favorite part of the old intro is the "and VVVELCOME back to *high pitched voice crackles* aNotHeR prOfesSioNal mAtcH *end crackling* of Starcraft 2!"
I love watching videos about games that I don't understand at all, listening to the narrator, reading the comments and trying to understand what's going on
always wondered. i play with my Razar Naga mouse where my hot keys are on my thumb (1-12/SHIFT 1-12). is that allowed in competitive play? or is it standard mouse?
One of the major changes I hated back when SC2 launched was that one of the most iconic units of the zerg suddenly became a minor support unit. I'm so glad there are still some players who can surprise opponents with them.
Focusing on one player at a time is excellent for educating new players on the game. It's a great idea to help show what the player sees and has seen regarding their decision-making and what they missed in relation to their mistakes. You should do it more often.
I don't play competitively but why is APM a metric? clicking the same thing over and over and click moving the same thing back and forth to get APM means what? I'm genuinely curious.
I theory crafted this like 8 years ago. Hydras have twice and hp, and twice the supply of a marine, so if they had the same amount of damage they would go 1 for 1 against a marine, but they actually have twice the damage as well. So 50 hydras > 100 marines of same supply. Hydras are also faster. The only difference is the support. Marines have medivac for healing, and tanks for backline splash damage. I guess you can micro infestor for splash to replace tanks? Thats really hard to do though, and hydras are only faster if on creep.... Plus hydras cost a lot more than marines, and theres no way to heal them up. Queens are inefficient on bunches of small units. So on paper its great! But only someone like scarlett could hope to pull it off. On the other hand. Hydras are the only unit that ghosts don't counter! lol
So to counter this as Terran. Would mixing mines in with the tanks help? Place the mines out front of the main force in the chokes. Try and soften the waves. Or is that not cost effective enough, then Zerg just switches strats, or trips mines early
Hyrda's melt so fast, but the marines usually had med-evac and tank support. I'm curious how the hydra's would trade if they had lurkers and queens supporting them.
9:34 thats what magnus carlsen does in championships of chess. He throws his oponent off with unconventional openings so they dont know what to do in early game.
As someone who off-races Zerg, I love Hydralisks! It might be because of SC1. Out of curiosity, what would you do to buff or fix the Hydra? What do they need in order to stop being so "bad"? Do they need more health? Damage? Range? Lower cost?
I liked the player POV on the second game. I think it's valuable when used sparingly, but seeing the screens of various top-level players and giving a more in-depth explanation of timings on supply, upgrades, various buildings, and so on for different Build Order Strategies is handy for gaining better insight into some of the more granular aspects of the game that we don't get from a broader "bird's eye" view of the replays. Probably not something that should be done often, but a great bit of variety in your already quality casts.
I love using hydras in just about every situation, even if they get countered. I feel hydras are under utilized in a lot of the videos I see. but hydra zergling lurker is such an iconic combo for me.
also mass hydra+bane is the only units you dont auto lose vs. 5+ghost at top play. so yer obv. if its a game with T that goes beyound the 5-8 + ghost then its mass hydra banes ^^

I love hydras. It is a bit unfortunate that they are so high on the tech tree for what they do, and that they need support from other units (ling/bane early, later infestors and vipers) in order to be viable against most regular compositions.
@Lowko IDK what I just watched... Scarlett's strategy is old; I played against it on Korean servers and thought it was the norm for them but I'm from the US and the ping was too real. Agreed on her panic... game 2 was reactive and flawed on micro; could've pushed forward on hydras as some were dancing in the back towards the end making them useless but she had already given up. game 3 she didn't commit when she could have and would've won like 5 minutes sooner at least. Towards the end didn't fungal the medivacs - maybe she didn't have the energy but it looked like she did? Even then she F2'd pulling back from the third with all her forces she could've pushed into the second and likely won then. Especially if she made more banes. Also; when your prod gets killed for your main unit IMO the best thing to do would be gas up and try to get the structures back so that your bank is well placed. I had fun yelling at my screen though.
9:18 I've watched a ton of TvZ casts and I can confidently say, Zerg wins most of the time when they contest the medivacs. Terran wins handily when they can lift up and run away scot-free. When you actually kill the Medivacs, Zerg wins. Also, please don't leave it on the player's view for so long, it gave me nausea with how fast they are jumping around the map.
