The final 5 minutes of this are absolutely poetic. His unjust failure just inches from victory shattering his spirit completely, and then executing an inhuman feat of reflex and skill to vanquish his enemy. And yet, he is still hollow; it's too late out to get a cheeseburger, it's all been for nothing.
He won... but the cost was far too great.

I like how the games' level aesthetics and soundtrack parallel his mental state while playing the game- first level: bright, cheerful, laid-back, optimistic, carefree. Last level: dark, scary, doom-ridden, chaotic. The incoherent zombies walking around the map represent what he's become and his descent into madness. Truly poetic cinema for the modern era. Hitchcock could never.

I love how Jerma says he would love to see a speed runner try to do the popcorn collection mission and talking about how long it must take to train for that level and then seeing a speed runner do it super easily by collecting the 22nd stand last

That's why I go by no-skip speed run times and believe it or not they come in BELOW the time of this video.
I believe you're thinking of the any% run, as that category skips a major chunk of the missions. The all story missions category (the main one) completes the mission but uses a different route instead of the intented one which allows you to get coins for the coin route (at least I think I haven't run the game in about a year).

I'm watching this now as an adult, absolutely baffled that I was able to beat this as a 12 year old.
Children are persistent and bored.
Monkey-Typewriter theorem. You had enough time to keep retrying, and no concept of Time’s value to increase the degree of your frustration as you go on. 2 hours to a kid is nothing. 2 hours to an adult is eternity.
Jerma is also really really bad, he ignores all the obvious short cuts.

When I was 5 - 11, I used to gnaw on my nintendo controllers out of frustration/rage with games. I remember I got Bomberman 64, somebody had already unlocked all the levels, and I played the later bosses without knowing what the hell I was doing, and I went full hamster mode on my poor Donkey Kong jungle themed controller.
I would bite my gameboy sp when i got too frustrated and would immediately feel remorse and inspect for damage and feel ridiculous
I've only broken one controller in frustration before and it was both old and I didn't even slam it on the floor, it was on a bed. It still broke though. I get stressed easily, but I can't imagine chewing on on my controller like it's a fucking steak
I would pull keys out of my keyboard when I got frustrated with PC games, which was often since I was like, 7. By the end of that laptop's life (which was surprisingly long), it had permanently lost 3 keys.
I hit my controllers and yelled. one time I got so angry I threw my gamecube controller onto the floor and broke a glass cup. I don't think my parents found out because I didn't tell them
i used to chew on the analog sticks on my ps2 from like age 5-9 whenever the game was getting too stressful (i remember doing it a TON during the boss rush at the end of kh2) so this resonates
