nah, goku doesn't fight to beat others, he fights to beat himself. He is always pushing himself to go up against stronger and stronger people. This is just his saiyan pride eager to see his opponent's full strength to see if he can beat them, and just the fact that it isn't fair he is using his full strength but his opponent isn't. This was meant to be Goku's big growth moment where he becomes an arbiter of Justice and sheds his childish demeanor. Should have ended with his sacrifice

Mostly tru. Goku's no stranger to killing. Kid Goku has hunted down plenty of animals. During king piccolo & rr arc he'd fight with the intent to kill (ex. Drum) depending on the scenario. He doesn't enjoy killing but even Goku has a tipping point.

15:05-19:40 SSJ Goku was basicially testing Frieza's full power. 50% was no challenge for SSJ Goku. But at full power Frieza was actually rocking him some. Goku was like ok these punches are hurting, now I can start trying again.

Yes, but that takes its toll at the end. Because Frieza never trained a day in his life, he has no idea how to maintain his stamina this deep into a fight. Goku, however, does. As powerful as you can get, if you can’t maintain it, you’re doomed to fail.

For Maddison if she reads: The manga demonstrated it better but Goku was much stronger than Freiza the moment he became a super Sayian. He wanted to physiologically beat Freiza but also wouldn't use his full power due to fearing Gohan, Bulmas and Pickers safety. Freiza's 100% power level was 120 million while SSJ Goku's was 150 million. Freiza was outclassed, and knew it himself hence why he tried to destroy Namek. Freiza just has a big ego.
The thing to understand is that yes, Goku was not making a smart decision in letting Frieza reach 100 percent power. However, he is a full-blooded Saiyan warrior. By nature, Saiyans will seek out the best battle they can have because that’s how they’re wired since birth. Even though his brain may be telling him to just finish Frieza now, his blood is telling him to get the best fight out of Frieza possible so he can have the best battle possible. It’s a rather self-destructive idea, but that’s how Saiyans work.
Goku still knows only the Erth's Dragonballs rules and accourding to them, Krilin cannot be brought back to life again, so Goku thinks he will never see his best friend again. No wonder why he is so mad!

yh that's not goku's style to attack from behind cause he probably thinks everyone is going to know that and plus he's very respectful when it comes to fighting so he goes to the front attack to make people surprise cause when you disappear like that people think your going behind them. I mean he does go behind people and attack but it depends on the fighter.
The reason why Goku (here) allowed Frieza to power up fully was not only to test both their limits but so Goku can own Frieza and discourage him. But to add on, when in Super Saiyan, your judgment is clouded by rage and as apart of the Saiyan Race they love nothing more than power and war, they are barbaric (think Viking), so, I believe that part that is ingrained in every Saiyan and that took precedence.
This is soo late but Goku letting Freiza power up is part of his saiyan nature , in the original he says "this is my only change to beat the biggest scumbag in the universe" In dragon ball besides plot, "letting someone else fight at their best " also means you are more likely to break your own limit and climb a new wall. Goku is basically leading Frieza on to believe that he is in fact stronger than Goku when in reality he isn’t. Goku wants Frieza to understand that even at your absolute best it just wasn’t enough. He is humbling Frieza through doing this. What angers Frieza the most is that someone who has so much power just like him didn’t take the path of destruction. That unlike him there are people as powerful or even stronger than he is and wouldn’t harm a fly. That’s why he can’t understand. To him power means dominion over others, to take over and rule over them. To those who disobey him perish. To Goku however you can be that powerful and be humble and you use that power to help others. That power comes in response of you becoming a better person. THAT right there is why Frieza is starting to feel humiliated.
It's five months late, but Goku was in a battle rage and wanted revenge on Freeza so bad he wanted to humiliate him at 100%. Leaving no excuses for Freeza when he lost. If Freeza lost before it he could say he only lost because Goku didn't let him get to 100%. But instead he lost after giving it everything, making his defeat final and complete. Like it's more about the spite. In this moment he hates him that much.
And yes Goku's only testing how strong he is how hard he can punch he's just taking the punches to feel how strong he is but he's actually having show everything Goku
As much as I’m not a fan of goku I will say when you look at how he acts in the manga an to a lessor extent the “ American dub “ you see that goku is more of a true saiyan then vegeta if not equal to broly. Where they both long for battle and power. An as a side note this is the frieza that has never trained so goku technically didn’t really prove anything outside of that his training an boosts gave him a slight edge. I don't think it had anything to do with Goku wanting to teach Frieza a lesson because this isn't the first or will it be the last time he's done this. Also, he's not the only one who does it, or rather, the only Saiyan. As a warrior race, Saiyans have an innate love for combat and becoming Super Saiyan brings out those raw traits as you could see the difference in Goku's personality. I think Goku allowed Frieza to power up because of his love for combat. Reaching a new height, he wanted the best worthy challenge, that being Frieza at his maximum.
to answer her question of why, think of it like this. If someone who thought they were tough wanted to fight your bf but he know he was stronger, your bf might give the other guy a free punch to show that it doesn't hurt anyway. Why do it at all you ask even if it doesn't hurt much, its a Saiyan thing they're cocky and arrogant so goku will often toy with his opponents, give them an advantage, free hits, etc just for the thrill of the fight he can't help it.
You know, I always figured that part of the reason Goku initially takes so many blows against 100 % Frieza was Goku adjusting to Frieza's increased speed and strength.

Don't get it twisted. Goku's main reason was because he wants a good fight. He wants to test his own ability. That's his character and is also a character trait of saiyans. Vegeta and Goku are both flawed in this same exact way. Even Gohan ends up guilty doing this same thing later with Cell although not for the same reasons Goku and Vegeta do it. Gohan did it because he wanted to inflict pain and torture Cell. The only one that does not fuck around is Trunks.
Goku let himself get clobbered by Freeza specifically BECAUSE he's trying to demoralize him. Goku took that entire beating and then said "Hey, btw, that didn't do anything." Basically he's saying, look, I just took the best you could dish out, and I haven't even slowed down. Try harder you pansy. He's insulting him every time he shows no concern about being struck. THAT is why he let Freeza wail on him.
At this point Goku's saiyan DNA has completely taken over and his stubbornness to beat his opponent at his maximum. When a Saiyan achieves a new height they always want to beat an opponent at their best because of their pride. Goku knows the planet is going to explode but he doesn't care. He wants to utterly humiliate Frieza and make him feel ashamed to live. It's a saiyans pride to always to want an opponent fight at their strongest despite the circumstances. You'll see this time and time again in the show. In Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta, over and over again. A saiyans mentality completely goes out the window. The only 1 you don't ever see this in, is Trunks, because of his future. Trunks don't give a FUCK he's going to give everything he can because of his tragic future.

It's amazing how Frieza is severely hurt from the spirit bomb, took hits from Super Saiyan Goku and yet he still has so much power left plus his putting alot of stress on his body to reach 100%.

Yes, but that takes its toll at the end. Because Frieza never trained a day in his life, he has no idea how to maintain his stamina this deep into a fight. Goku, however, does. As powerful as you can get, if you can’t maintain it, you’re doomed to fail.

The manga demonstrated it better but Goku was much stronger than Freiza the moment he became a super Sayian.
He wanted to physiologically beat Freiza but also wouldn't use his full power due to fearing Gohan, Bulmas and Pickers safety.
Freiza's 100% power level was 120 million while SSJ Goku's was 150 million. Freiza was outclassed, and knew it himself hence why he tried to destroy Namek. Freiza just has a big ego.
The thing to understand is that yes, Goku was not making a smart decision in letting Frieza reach 100 percent power. However, he is a full-blooded Saiyan warrior. By nature, Saiyans will seek out the best battle they can have because that’s how they’re wired since birth. Even though his brain may be telling him to just finish Frieza now, his blood is telling him to get the best fight out of Frieza possible so he can have the best battle possible. It’s a rather self-destructive idea, but that’s how Saiyans work.
You can really feel Goku's rage more in Kai
Goku still knows only the Erth's Dragonballs rules and accourding to them, Krilin cannot be brought back to life again, so Goku thinks he will never see his best friend again. No wonder why he is so mad!
Also when saiyans are at near death their battle power increase so that's why they take so long when battling.

I think goku was taking hits to show frieza no matter what he throws at him, that it won't put him down, to fill frieza with hopelessness
The reason why Goku (here) allowed Frieza to power up fully was not only to test both their limits but so Goku can own Frieza and discourage him. But to add on, when in Super Saiyan, your judgment is clouded by rage and as apart of the Saiyan Race they love nothing more than power and war, they are barbaric (think Viking), so, I believe that part that is ingrained in every Saiyan and that took precedence.
This is soo late but Goku letting Freiza power up is part of his saiyan nature , in the original he says "this is my only change to beat the biggest scumbag in the universe"
In dragon ball besides plot, "letting someone else fight at their best " also means you are more likely to break your own limit and climb a new wall.
In english they sound a bit "superhero -like " but in the original they are more like kung fu guys flying around and shooting beams who just happens to find super beings in their way
Goku is basically leading Frieza on to believe that he is in fact stronger than Goku when in reality he isn’t. Goku wants Frieza to understand that even at your absolute best it just wasn’t enough. He is humbling Frieza through doing this.
What angers Frieza the most is that someone who has so much power just like him didn’t take the path of destruction. That unlike him there are people as powerful or even stronger than he is and wouldn’t harm a fly. That’s why he can’t understand.
To him power means dominion over others, to take over and rule over them. To those who disobey him perish. To Goku however you can be that powerful and be humble and you use that power to help others. That power comes in response of you becoming a better person. THAT right there is why Frieza is starting to feel humiliated.
It's five months late, but Goku was in a battle rage and wanted revenge on Freeza so bad he wanted to humiliate him at 100%. Leaving no excuses for Freeza when he lost. If Freeza lost before it he could say he only lost because Goku didn't let him get to 100%. But instead he lost after giving it everything, making his defeat final and complete. Like it's more about the spite. In this moment he hates him that much.

As much as I’m not a fan of goku I will say when you look at how he acts in the manga an to a lessor extent the “ American dub “ you see that goku is more of a true saiyan then vegeta if not equal to broly. Where they both long for battle and power.
An as a side note this is the frieza that has never trained so goku technically didn’t really prove anything outside of that his training an boosts gave him a slight edge.

I don't think it had anything to do with Goku wanting to teach Frieza a lesson because this isn't the first or will it be the last time he's done this. Also, he's not the only one who does it, or rather, the only Saiyan. As a warrior race, Saiyans have an innate love for combat and becoming Super Saiyan brings out those raw traits as you could see the difference in Goku's personality. I think Goku allowed Frieza to power up because of his love for combat. Reaching a new height, he wanted the best worthy challenge, that being Frieza at his maximum.

to answer her question of why, think of it like this. If someone who thought they were tough wanted to fight your bf but he know he was stronger, your bf might give the other guy a free punch to show that it doesn't hurt anyway. Why do it at all you ask even if it doesn't hurt much, its a Saiyan thing they're cocky and arrogant so goku will often toy with his opponents, give them an advantage, free hits, etc just for the thrill of the fight he can't help it.
You know, I always figured that part of the reason Goku initially takes so many blows against 100 % Frieza was Goku adjusting to Frieza's increased speed and strength.

Don't get it twisted. Goku's main reason was because he wants a good fight. He wants to test his own ability. That's his character and is also a character trait of saiyans. Vegeta and Goku are both flawed in this same exact way. Even Gohan ends up guilty doing this same thing later with Cell although not for the same reasons Goku and Vegeta do it. Gohan did it because he wanted to inflict pain and torture Cell.
The only one that does not fuck around is Trunks.
Goku let himself get clobbered by Freeza specifically BECAUSE he's trying to demoralize him. Goku took that entire beating and then said "Hey, btw, that didn't do anything." Basically he's saying, look, I just took the best you could dish out, and I haven't even slowed down. Try harder you pansy. He's insulting him every time he shows no concern about being struck. THAT is why he let Freeza wail on him.
At this point Goku's saiyan DNA has completely taken over and his stubbornness to beat his opponent at his maximum. When a Saiyan achieves a new height they always want to beat an opponent at their best because of their pride. Goku knows the planet is going to explode but he doesn't care. He wants to utterly humiliate Frieza and make him feel ashamed to live. It's a saiyans pride to always to want an opponent fight at their strongest despite the circumstances. You'll see this time and time again in the show. In Goku, Gohan, and Vegeta, over and over again. A saiyans mentality completely goes out the window. The only 1 you don't ever see this in, is Trunks, because of his future. Trunks don't give a FUCK he's going to give everything he can because of his tragic future.
