It’s very powerful and emotional. There’s nothing Goku could do to save Trunk’s timeline. And the fact that future Bulma thought of sending Trunks back to find Goku is so wholesome.
I remember this statement from Goku when trunks is killing cell in his time line.
“There is someone watching, and laughing. A friend of mine you killed in the past. He’s someone I could never let down”

Facts
Trunks telling Goku how just meeting him gave him hope and inspiration and Goku telling him he would be with him in spirit is so amazing.
I love that so much.
In a sense, for that brief period of time, Goku gave him a glimpse of what having a father (or perhaps "uncle" in the case of Goku) was really like, due to Trunks growing up having never known "his" Vegeta.
Here's a fun fact: Akira Toriyama, the man who created the Dragon Ball series, mentioned he based Trunks character after John Conner from "The Terminator" franchise.
In fact, this next saga, which is dubbed the Android Saga, the first two "Terminator" served as an inspiration for this part of the story.
Trunks is more of a Kyle Reese. TFS played on the light Marty McFly subject when Bulma hits on Trunks.
Cool info! Now that i look back, it did have similarities. Thank goodness that AT is a huge fan of those T movies or we'd never have the android saga at all 🤟

Even Piccolo couldn't believe such a pairing.
There's also an element that is changed a great deal starting at THIS point of DBZ story. The ability to sense others through their energy....for Goku and Piccolo it has evolved from merely sensing "power levels" to now being a great deal more detailed. Just like Goku told Trunks, he searched his feelings. Essentially Goku and Piccolo now have the ability to not only sense a person's Ki but also "read" said Ki to interpret intentions.
We saw an element of this already when Goku read Krillin's mind (which required physical contact at the time).
Aand we don’t see the utilization of that after this, not many times at least
@@grydon6422 Not entirely true. Many of the characters are able to tell each other apart by the feel of their Ki as well. Something that has highlighted when Goku uses the Spirit Bomb again.
Goku could read memories on Namek and he was following the details of the others' battle against Freeza in the healing chamber.
@@MandalorianRevan Not true, they're feeling Ki but still have no idea who it's coming from, they just make an estimation based on whose ki it's most similar to. That's why when there is a drastic change in Ki they can't tell who it is.
One of the best episodes in the whole series. Trunks coming from the future is the best DBZ story imo.
The Android Saga was DBZ at it's peak.
Trunks is stupid, why did he come to this time. He could have easily gone further in the past and dealt with dr gerou and avoided everything that happened

It stated once after cell saga that he planed to bring Goku to his future and defeat the androids , but since Trunks become so strong he dont need it.

They've built such amazing stories. Goku is such a role model for young men and we grew up aspiring to be like him. Those of us who have seen the Android/Cell saga know exactly what Trunkz went through and what he is trying to prevent.. it is 100% super emotional. I cry every time as well. This is, hands down, one of the best episodes in DBZ.

Trunks didn't really want to prevent it. If he did, he would went further in the past when goku was a kid and dealt with dr gerou himself which would have been easy. bam, he would have avoided everything like that, but i guess this is shounen and thats not possible

@@mastixencounter I think that's not really the reason. Trunk actually can't afford to travel anywhere in time as he wanted. Because Trunk said in later episode to travel requires lot of energy and time to charge the time machine. So the further in time he wants to go, the more energy required, which taking years to charge. So currently he only has the charge / energy for travel and return during the time Frieza came to earth.

I love how this guy is the perfect person to watch a show with. Knows everything and doesnt have a big mouth spoiling little shit. Really makes a difference in both your partner’s and the viewer’s experience watching her watch for the first time. Awesome stuff
The shock on Piccolo's face when he learned who Trunk's mother was.... that was a true DBZ classic moment.

Looking forward to this one! I remember being in shock that trunks was actually in the story as I had a toy of him. But back then there were so many different fake stories and characters, even fake toys like goku with green clothes and SSJ3 but with silver hair and a tonne of GT characters. It was hard to know what was legit being a kid.

Yeah, I think I had some Super Saiyan figurines as a kid long before the episode where Goku turns into one had aired in America. I knew about Vegito, Gogeta and Majin Buu before the Android saga came out. A friend of mine managed to get Japanese clips of the show and showed me, and I had movie 13 in Japanese.

Facts Brother
This was always one of my favorite episodes; Hearing that Vegeta and Bulma wind up getting together and having a family was such a crazy idea to me back then! Then as the series progressed and seeing just how much character development Vegeta gets as the show goes on is nothing short of astounding. Going from being a major villain, to a "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation on Namek against Frieza, and then becoming one of the good guys fighting side by side with Goku? Vegeta immediately was my favorite character when he was introduced and then he became even more of my favorite as his character grows so much through the whole series, even going into Dragonball Super. I can't wait to watch along with you guys now rewatching DBZ and hopefully you decide to continue on watching DBSuper as well! Kame knows I'll be here to watch too cause there's nothing like seeing someone's honest and first reaction to everything that happens; Part of it is for the nostalgia of the show, but MOST of it is getting to be on the outside looking in on someone's initial reactions and thoughts of what happens :D

Everytime I think that Trunks’ timeline is the original timeline of DBZ I get chills. Imagine DBZ as a horror movie.

5:14 I love this interaction in the Abridged version, it cracks me up every single time.
This was great. The episode was great. The reaction from both of you really showed how great dbz is. We saw her perspective and seeing all those moments for the first time and that was moving..but to also see yours which you knew was coming and still hit you that hard. Such a cool idea yall had to do this. And I cant help but get excited cause there is still SO much more. I mean there is even the movie coming out in a couple days! This is going to be a long great adventure for yall.
The scene with trunks looking down as he flew away always gets me, but what will get your girlfriend more later on is the parallel scene in super when trunks comes back. The scene with him leaving again is very special as well. I cried heavy in that episode. Great reaction guys!
It’s so crazy how it’s such a revelation that Bulma and Vegeta get together, when now we cannot even THINK of Vegeta loving anybody but Bulma.

Dragon ball hit and felt different back then it's insane, balancing out the talking scenes and fighting scenes giving us more knowledge is what I live for
So there is a translation issue here. Instant Transmission isn't "moving at the speed of light", but actual instantaneous teleportation to anywhere, with the one condition that Goku needs to be able to sense someone's ki at the target location.
The "light speed" thing is fine for now, but it doesn't work with a few scenes later on.

The way trunks tossed his sword up and it landed in the hilt is insane
Let's not forget that Trunks is the one who ultimately killed Frieza and Vegeta at this point has no clue it was his son to finally avenge the Saiyans. Also Goku's own son is the master of Vegeta's son in the future. His own rival. The writing was superb at this point!
Her reaction to this series so far is priceless. I love when new people get into the DB series. I hope to see many more upcoming videos, you think she is excited now then just wait!!

At this point in the story Vegeta is VERY pissed. he realized that Goku didn't JUST pass him, but completely eclipsed him. Also Piccolo is just as strong as he is and Gohan is knocking on that door very HARD. If Vegeta had to fight BOTH Gohan and Piccolo, it's not for certain he'd win. And he KNOWS this.
Love the way you keep your emotions from spoiling it for your girl. Her reaction is exactly the way we were as kids watching these episodes. Now that I'm in my thirties DBZ hits way different. It's one of the many animes that I can keep watching over and over again and still get goosebumps or watery eyed while watching. Someday I'll re-watch it with my son and see his own reaction, cant wait! Love the videos, great job guys!

Baris & Madison, I’m watching your most recent reactions too, you commented on my comment on one of your most recent videos, but I’m also hopping around in your older reaction vids too (even without reaction vids, I think like any DB fan I just get a hankering to dive into different chapters of the story from time to time, and often do so, but your reactions make it more fun), and I just have to say I love the sincerity and level of both of your reactions on this episode. Seeing you tear up, Baris, makes me and I’m sure all the true DB fans here feel a sense of brotherhood and camaraderie with you, because we all feel the same emotion about the same moments.
Really thinking about the experiences, the suffering, the trials of the characters, really appreciating the chapters in their lives, their losses and connections and so much more, is such an emotional thing, and it makes us think about and appreciate all the same in our lives. I'm glad we have new fans to the community. When I showed Dragonball Z to my wife(ex-now) many years ago, she looked at this with disgust.
Now remarried, and my new wife sat down with me wacthing Super during the T.O.P on her own accord, since then she is totally into the whole franchise.

Just started watching your reactions. This is very nostalgic for me. Makes me think wouldn’t it be cool if they made a DBZ movie focused on a Krillin story. I feel like they could make a refreshing story for his character or even Yamaha & Tien
2:34 I just realized....I think that Trunks has already been time traveling to the Earth...he sounds like he has been watching the fight on Namek.
Also another thing: Instant Transmission is not light speed. Instant Transmission is instant. The English dub mistranslated this. If it were light speed, it would take a very long time to cross distances in space.
The spaceships they've been using are much faster than light. They'd have to be to be able to cross interstellar distances in a few days. It takes light 4 years to reach the nearest star to our solar system, and Namek is likely much further than that.
