    Great video. A good reminder that our tiny plastic parts are actually huge hunks of metal. I really like your advice when the instructions seem a bit screwy.

    40 odd years ago when I was in the army I was in a sp artillery unit and drive an m577 command post carrier. It was only a 13 ton vehicle but I had to break apart the track for repairs on numerous occasions and though it was much smaller than a panther the tracks still weighed a small ton! Don't recall if I've ever seen you build a 577, but would love to watch that. I've been planning to build one and do the interior like my old track with a complete fire direction center. Thanks for all the great shows

    Thanks for sharing your track links with us. That's the kind of thing you want to see but never got to. I did some research on the Hanamag and as far as I could determine , they were mostly used by civilian concerns and we're in common use before the war. I have never seen them used by the Heers but I'm sure they were far behind the lines for hauling the heaviest of loads to the Army distribution center for trips to the forward distribution points. They were also used at Penemunde to move V1's just like the kit shows. Also I believe that "L-shaped" area you filled in is a vane used to control the direction of the missile and we're moveable. Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

  • @stefanrichter9162

    Very fine model , indeed! One objection ....
    During the development in Peenemünde the V2 was painted in the mentioned checkerboard fashion. This was because the technicians wanted to be able to observe from greater distances if the rocket "rolls" during the flight , which was not desired. So the V2 during development and testing in Peenemünde used this checkerboard pattern. But you are making a "field"-version of the V2. Not a test-rocket. So the field missile has camouflage , not the checkerboard painting.

    I love Tamiya thin cement but sometimes I feel like it gives up too easily on smaller parts. I guess it balances out when you need to correct a mistake but i wish there was a stronger bond for a thin cement like that sometimes.

    • @wwiiinplastic4712
      @wwiiinplastic4712 7 років тому +2

      I have heard elsewhere that Takom inadvertently modeled the SS100 kit on a museum example that had post-war tires, so the ones in the kit aren't accurate for this situation. Is this something you've noticed?
      I would also like to know if there is a tow hitch on both ends of the Meilerwagen. In the box art, the V-2 is pointed forward, when in a launch video I have seen they were actually towed from the other end of the 'wagen up to the portable launch pad so there needs to be a hitch on the rear in addition to the tow bar at the other end. Are such parts in the kit?

  • @inanyt

    amazing! thanks for sharing the build, great as usual. i see that with checkered paint, the v2 looks similar to the moon rocket if Tintin except it's black and white instead of red and white, and the legs. also the tracks are wonderful, where did you get them?

  • @bibblebob

    I think the chequered pattern was applied more to test rockets than it was for those used offensively. It was any easy way to see if the rocket was rotating

  • @r.g.o3879
    @r.g.o3879 3 роки тому

    The V2 and the mobile launcher system were Actually quite advanced bits of technology for the time. If they had been employed on a more tactical level against the red army or the allied fleet at DDay they would have had a far greater effect on the war instead of terror bombing london. Terror bombing of cities just wasnt an effective use of either sides resources and just became a way to cause harm to civilians both german and British.

  • @allanstott6999
    @allanstott6999 7 років тому

    Andy, Can I ask which paints or situations would you use a spray booth? I have one with my airbrush, but I only spray acrylics, so I'm not sure if it is strictly necessary. I actually have a gauze over the nozzle of the extract pipe because it doesn't reach the window, and this does get pretty stained by the excess paint that gets sucked through. Are acrylic fumes harmful at all, or is it just for preventing over spray in the room?
