- The V2 rocket (German: Vergeltungswaffe 2, i.e. reprisal weapon 2), technical name Aggregat-4 (A4), was a ballistic missile that was developed at the beginning of the Second World War in Germany, specifically targeted at London and later Antwerp. The rocket was the world's first long-range[3] combat-ballistic missile[4] and first known non-human-piloted artifact to achieve sub-orbital spaceflight.[5] It was the progenitor of all modern rockets,[6] including those used by the United States and Soviet Union space programs, which gained access to the scientists and designs through Operation Paperclip and Operation Osoaviakhim.[7]
The weapon was presented by Nazi propaganda as a retaliation for the bombers that succeeded in attacking ever more German cities from 1942 until the end of the war.[8]
Over 3,000 V-2s were launched as military rockets by the German Wehrmacht against Allied targets during the war, mostly London and later Antwerp. The attacks resulted in the death of an estimated 7,250 military personnel and civilians[citation needed], while 12,000 forced laborers were killed at the production of the weapons

The V2 6 wheel road transport trailer/launch device. When a serving soldier in the Aussie Army, I participated in a course at the Australian War Memorial in the 1990s, we students were shown the AWM's V2 with its trailer/launching device and told, it was the only known remaining trailer/launcher of this type for the V2 in the world. It is stored in the Mitchell storage facility and with permission sought before a visit the Memorial, permission might be provided to view the V2 with its trailer/launcher.
There were even other highly innovative rocket scientists working at Skoda Pribram plant for the SS, they developed the huge solid fuel V101 Skoda designed Rocket that was tested at 16.03.1945 in Rudisleben Arnstadt from Polte 2 plant, this one was flying radio guided over North Norway to come down near the North Pole region. it only missed its projected target by 6 Meters! That was quite something back in 1945, It was designed by a Dr.Büdewadt and Dr. Teichmann. V-101 was a solid fuel rocket, with THRUST 100 tons (not the amount of fuel). Range more than 1800 km, altitude 200 km. Designed by Dr. Büdewald and Dr. Teichmann at Skoda together with the SS group led by Hans Kammler. Length 30,26 m, width 2,82 m, weight 146 tons.
Pretty sure this is a post war British launch of a V2 (by German personnel and German equipment). They wanted to carefully document the entire process.
I agree. I have seen the video you describe, but can't find it now??? Do you have a link? The Brits used German personnel and rockets to document how the whole process was performed. It was just post war and the Germans were willing to cooperate - that is my recollection at least.
@@johnviney7919 No, but it was called Operation Backfire. Pretty sure there were 3 launches and there is even film with audio from inside the control car where they lauched it from. Very interesting and tons of detail about the entire process from receiving the rocket to launching it. Its here on UA-cam but I don't know where.
V-2's were launched from at least 3 locations in the Netherlands not only den haag. but also 6 from the area around Serooskerke. and 77 from a forest in "het Rijsterbos" (the riders forest, rijster meaning a person riding a horse as there used to be a horse track in the forest)

Erstaunlich, wenn man bedenkt, daß die V2 nicht funkferngesteuert, sondern mit einer sequentiellen Steuerung programmiert über enorme Entfernungen ein Ziel angeflogen ist, was selbst heute nicht so einfach zu realisieren ist.
Naja ohne GPS, Radarverfolgung oder Leitstrahl o.ä. hilft eine Funkfernsteuerung ja auch nix

Yes he would’ve been happy to be a mass murderer for the British or the Russians, he did not care about anything to do with humanity around him. The people were consumed via wretched conditions to build according to his goals. His personal mission was above all.

What a huge waste of money and resources... imagine what an impact 1000 ME262 fighters would have had in their place. Maybe Dresden would not have burned. Germany did indeed give NASA a leg up in the space race though.
Actually, there was an air-base close to Dresden equipped with a squadron of ME262s, but they could not get airborne during the bombing due to a lack of fuel.
I for one am happy that Germany made this early investment into the US Space program over being „more effective“ with its investments in extending the duration of a wrong WWII
plans for the german rocket program began in 1937, they had the idea to create it for a long time

The v2 terrified London for ages. Why would you say it was a waste of resources? I've seen the films where all you can hear is that horrendous buzzing as they come in fast
v2's were supersonic on descent. you're thinking of the v1. which, from a pure terror perspective, were way more effective on a dollar per terror-watt perspective than an adult liquid-fueled rocket.
