Well look at what we have here. Tbh it kinda sounds like a sentry but I forgot the model. Anyways great shot, always nice to see older sirens working again.
Ian’s siren productions they were definitely produced and distributed but are thought to have all been scrapped by now with only 1 image floating around that points towards their physical existence
I was so happy to hear that my neighboring State Wisconsin holds (currently at this time known right now) the last active ACA Hurricane in the US! Currently still operating Milwaukee! Well now guess how happy I am to come to find out that there is a recently discovered Soundmaster 125 Siren in State where I live! In Gibbon! Gibbon Minnesota. Rumor has it's still set up for weather warning and for the fire department. But if you know anyone who can go up and check it out and see if they still use it, MN tests their sirens every 1st Wednesday monthly. Unfortunately for me I live a good couple hours away, and I wouldn't have time to be able to record the beutie, so if anyone sees this comment and is willing or able to check it out for yourselves, it's all yours! It's in Gibbon MN located on a water tower. It's white to match the colors of it. It's definitely a Soundmaster 125 Siren for sure.
They are tones sent from the same dispatch station that calls the fire department/ambulance/police out to fires and things. Those tones are very specific and each one has a different purpose. A receiver at each siren listens to them and if it hears the proper tones it will activate the siren.
@@13_cmi DTMF Activation and Deactivation tones. The same ones you can hear while typing on the number pad on phone while calling a number. They can be played through Walkie Talkie, or special Remote Control radios. I don't think phone can activate Sirens through DTMF tho.
It is capable, but I have no idea if this particular one is wired up for it or has that signal programmed into it. It isn't very likely, although it is possible.
Could possibly be, I was thinking it's probably just the acoustics of the shroud/horn - bearing in mind it actually isn't facing the camera you will only hear a more muffled sound.
I'm Suprised the guys that worked on keeping making em operational didn't lose hope after the countless problems they ran into over the years and also I think there is a second one on the other side of Oakland acres least I think there is
There is a second one in the area at Rock Creek State Park North a few miles as well. I was honestly expecting a replacement to be where this was after reading the Facebook article on it.
@@flyoversirens3704 yea wasn't that one the more problematic one due to its relative remoteness compared to the other one that's literally just a few feet from the road
@@bodes_26 I'm not sure but I know both have had their fair share of issues over the years. Frankly it's amazing this one hasn't been replaced being that the city already approved funding to buy an entirely new one once in 2009. I guess they never got around to it but it means they apparently have the funding.
These normally would rotate, but they are notorious for stripping the worm gear inside, which leaves them stuck facing one direction like this one. So you were right, the design was just sub-par!
@@flyoversirens3704 Wait, so this SoundMaster 125 is tested only on the first Wednesday at 10:00 AM while the other SoundMaster 125 is tested every Wednesday at 12:00 PM? Also No Problem!

I didn't go because I had to head the opposite direction to Texas. The other SoundMaster is located in Rock Creek State Park by the marina if I recall.
I’ve seen a few people comment on UA-cam and Reddit that these things rotate so I’m a bit curious, which part rotates? The whole thing or just the top part?
Is this the first video of a SoundMaster 125 sounding on UA-cam because I think it is? Such a shame it doesn't rotate if it's even supposed to. Also sounds like a weak return spring for the high tone damper because you hear it shut shortly after the siren starts to wind up.
I myself am amazed too that this siren is still working as much as it is and hasn't been replaced. When I saw the notification I did a double take because I thought none of these sirens worked any more. This is UA-cam siren history here. The first, and maybe last video of a SoundMaster 125.
Where did anyone hear that it has been inactive for 10 year? It’s only been non-functional since late last year, and they waited until the weather warmed up to get it fixed.
It was broken in 2009, they approved to replace it and nothing happened. To my knowledge there was no record of any action taken between then and now. I could be wrong though.
