She was wise enough to really "get" that there really was a rabbit hole vortex that she was heading to & soon to be nudged down if not out & out PUSHED to enter it. I had never heard of her before 2017 when I came across an article online interviewing her. It was a huge eye opener & I remember thinking that the industry has a FORMULA to get those contracted artists in line & how to extort from them labor which in turn NEVER ends. The artists get "handled" & controlled by an agency insider referred to as a manager. They enforce rules which their boss, the recording label, creates to work the artist over to ensure they are getting THEIR money's worth. The artist is literally ENSLAVED in the matrix & most comply to save face & keep up appearances. They are left with mere crumbs while the label is making the REAL cold, hard cash which they perpetually keep "all in the family" & thus sustain them for decades to come. I am glad that she woke ALL the way up & left.

    Thank you for posting this.
We must remember that, in this era, Jim Crow segregation imposed a long laundry list of humiliations, degradations, tortures and crimes on black people that made progressive blacks of that era seek dignity in the presentation of blacks in media.
To a lesser extent, that struggle continues today.
We must be more thankful to our ancestors, who, all too often, paid a steep price that we can scarcely comprehend for us to even be here.

Thank you Karine for doing such a great job, and keeping the content respectful & classy.
in her autobiography, Donna Summer said the same thing, about how your life in the music industry is not your own, and how she was being controlled by legal substances, and being directed to what she could, and could not do, until she had a spiritual encounter, and went back to her faith. So many celeb books I have read will mention similar, that in some way they have been controlled. A lot of them are also under (m)ind (k)ontrol. When you look into the industry and go down the "rabbit hole", it's truly creepy and scary. The control is on such a high level. Very sad!
So glad she had the good sense to get out, and that she could. I don't think some can.

Thank you for another amazing video about an African Descent Goddess, Ms. Joyce Bryant. May she rest in peace. She was one the smarter industry goddesses who realised at an early stage in her life that getting married and having a child/ren is not all that it's cracked out to be.
Almost all, but a few of the Hollywood starlets had unhappy marriages and unhappy motherhood experiences. With that sort of reality, you would think many women would seriously think twice, thrice about marriage and having a child with a man to try and keep him around or make him love you more. That never works. All you will be left with is you and your child/ren.
Despite the high numbers of divorced mothers and single mothers starring at women in the face, you would think that many women would stop rushing into marriages and having children to please a man, family, society or to fill an empty space in their lives. It's not fair to bring a child into this world and treat it as a cruch and human toy because you are not enough for YOU.
If fewer women stopped having random children by every man who declared love (to get sex), the world would be a better place, and women would rule again.

    • @overcomerbtbojesus
      @overcomerbtbojesus Рік тому +1

Unfortunately too few women can resist the pressure against marriage and family to their detriment its one thing if you find a mature suitable partner to marry and raise a family but women are told from the cradle that their identity comes from being a wife and mother - that they have not accomplished anything in life until they’re a wife and mother- i hate the message that a woman has not arrived until she’s walked down the aisle and got a ring on her finger - its a lie until and an illusion until you’ve met the right person who can love you in a healthy manner

@healedandfreeinjc1973 PREACH!!!! Like you, my dear, I see through this BS. Interesting thing is that from a young age growing up, I never drank that stupid Kool Aid that I must get married and have kids.
I still think so to this day. I prefer to have a man I love, live in separate homes, but be lifetime lovers. If it ends, it ends and we move one. That's life for you. Even marriage and kids can't keep a man and woman together. Nothing will if the love is GONE.
I have a dream to write books 📚 and have podcasts about marriage or marriage, children or no children, not changing your last name if you decide to marry, giving your last name to your children etc etc with other woke women. It's TIME!

I've been meaning to comment for a while. These breakdowns are wonderful. I've been a lover of Black classic cinema (all classics really) for over 25 years. I used to find old VHS tapes at Block Buster so and appreciate you bringing these buried treasures to light. Thank you

Karine this video, like all of them, was amazing. I have Joyce Bryant photos saved on my Pinterest, but I never knew about her beyond photos. She was stunning and strong. I’m glad she got out too, and had someone there to take care of her in her later years. 💜

I loved this story and thank you for bringing these "STARS" to us especially when the person is traced back to where you grew up at! I love seeing the clothing and hairstyles then, and how they come back again now, especially the bell sleeves! Beautiful 😍!!

Remember showing black women and flattering light wasn't their priority I mean we already know that we're sexy skin just makes everything look good from light brown to the darkest night sky we make everything look good don't even have to try

Her resolve SHOULD be the standard, but, it isn't in the industry, unfortunately. Many ppl are willing to do whatever to ensure their dream lives. Ironically, it may lead to the death of their spirit. It's all or nothing. Miss Joyce said "I think tf NOT!", honey! 😏
    Rest well, dear love. 🕊🕯💕

For some reasons, singers back in those days in the movies sang like opera was the style to go with. When songs broke out, it was (I think) pretty corny, towards conservative audiences. Racial tension was too real back then I can imagine. Peace! I never heard of this lady before. Thank you for covering her life and career.

WOW, I remember my Grandparents & Parents talking about Her. MY aunt who sang w/ the PEE WEE CLAYTON BAND, talked about her. Wow this is great that this is being spoken about because its so much to history & Black Music & their singing & Besuty. Thanks for showing this because people no matter Race, Creed or color are not aware of those who contributed to the Movie industry or music.

I absolutely love your videos on all of the Black women and other women of color, that were trendsetters in the days of old. You are the BEST at it Karine! 💯
I've said since I was a teenager, that being famous has to come with a price that the public doesn't understand. Being wealthy can be, great I've heard😉, but being an entertainer must be soul-wrenching.
