    Someone pointed out something I missed all these years, but now have a deeper meaning because of this series. In Obi-wan’s final moments before Darth Vader cuts him down in ‘A New Hope’, Obi-wan looks to his left and sees Luke and Leia together. His task complete, he smiles and becomes one with the Force.

      what does it have to do with this episode or show? And its something completly obvious aswell. No need to point that out how could you not notice that. Thats the keypart of that scene. Thats why Obi Wan says "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." because only then Obi can become one with the force and manifest as a force ghost. Obi Wan was traind by Qui gon jinn in this technique for a long time, Qui gon jinn discovered the ways of the force and becoming one with it and manifest as a force ghost. He teached Yoda and Obi Wan. Obi Wan helped Anakin doing the same

      I agree because when I first saw ANH (when it was released originally), I only thought Ben was smiling towards Luke. Now I can believe that he was smiling at seeing the grown Leia, with a certain amount of pride at seeing how she turned out. I take it the same way that old Ben says, "Hello, there," to Artoo when he first sees him on Tatooine.

    The Line "Then my friend is truly dead" was a nice touch and callback(forward?) to Luke when after Vader turns him over to the Emperor Luke says "Then my father is truly dead" and seemed to have an equally powerful emotional impact on Ani.

    This series truly tells us that when Owen and Beru eat it in A New Hope, they went out swinging.

  • @wuttatota148
    @wuttatota148 7 місяців тому +37

    In a way, it was the twins that saved Anakin and Obi-wan from the past that kept eating them alive on the inside. Leia was the catalyst that led Obi-wan to rediscover himself, to learn to have hope and purpose again, to learn to trust again. Luke was the one who saved Anakin and gave him a chance at redemption, to make him see that it wasn't too late for him. I just think it's really beautiful.
    Obi-wan's confrontation with Anakin in this episode, i think he really needed that. He's spent all this time blaming himself for Anakin's fall that it haunts him so much. For Anakin to tell him, "I am not your failure" must have been what he needed to finally let go of that, to stop wallowing in self-blame.

    • @jmwilliamsart
      @jmwilliamsart 7 місяців тому +1

      Well Obi Wan was at least partly responsible for Anakin’s fall. He didn’t fully believe in Anakin the way that Qui Gon did, and Anakin sensed that from the beginning. He was also too overly critical of Anakin, he never made Anakin feel that he could open up to him without judgement or condemnation. Obi Wan also just stood by and let the council break Anakin down, and he regretted that he never fought for Anakin, that he didn’t speak up for him. He only became more empathetic and understanding towards Anakin after they both became one with the force.

    • @wuttatota148
      @wuttatota148 7 місяців тому +2

      @@jmwilliamsart Obi-wan believed in Anakin. There was just a severe miscommunication between them. Obi-wan always acts as a mentor, treating a lot of his interactions with Anakin as a learning experience, and Anakin takes this as Obi-wan criticizing and looking down on his abilities, when in reality, Obi-wan just wants Anakin to learn and improve. He's not judging him, in his mind he's helping him grow.
      A prime example of this is their practice duel in episode 5 in which Obi-wan reminds Anakin to be mindful and that his need for victory might be his undoing. You can see how Obi-wan smiles at Anakin warmly after saying this, but Anakin only sees this as critcism and judgement, while Obi-wan clearly sees this as a lesson and learning experience for Anakin.
      Even in ROTS, before Obi-wan heads off for Utapau, he tells Anakin "You're strong and wise Anakin, and you have become a far greater Jedi than i could ever be." Obi-wan believes in Anakin. Their huge problem is communication tbh. They never talk to each other about how they feel.

    • @jmwilliamsart
      @jmwilliamsart 7 місяців тому +3

      @@wuttatota148That’s true, it’s just that Obi Wan was a little too overly critical and he didn’t listen more and try to make Anakin feel that he can tell him anything and not be judged for it. Whereas after Anakin became one with the force he told Obi Wan everything that led him down the dark path, how the loss of his mother was a turning point in his life, how he meant well but only seemed to bring a lot of harm. Anakin was sincerely remorseful, and he felt that he had been a failure.
      This time Obi Wan listened to Anakin without judgement and was more empathetic towards him. He told him that he wasn’t solely responsible for all the bad that had happened throughout the galaxy, that the sufferings that he had endured since he was little played a part that led him down the dark path. While his single act of destroying Palpatine and saving Luke may not erase all of the bad things he had done it doesn’t take away from many of the countless good deeds that he had done and all the lives he had saved when he was still a Jedi.
      It wasn’t just Anakin who made mistakes, so did Obi Wan, Yoda, and the Jedi as a whole (by becoming too dogmatic, rigid, too stifled by tradition, and choosing to serve corrupt politicians instead of the will of the force). And those who ran the galactic republic screwed up by allowing the republic to become too big to manage, and allowing corruption and nepotism to eat away at the republic from within. The point is that the galaxy (our world as well) is the end result of a series of actions and decisions and failings made by a lot of people not one single person.

    • @wuttatota148

      @@jmwilliamsart That still doesn't make it Obi-wan's fault that Anakin never reached out. Obi-wan did his best with the responsibility he was given at like, 25, after his Master just died in front of him. I agree that Obi-wan probably wasn't the best choice for Anakin, but he did his best and was always patient with him. The problem is that neither of them reached out to the other. In the end, Obi-wan wanted what's best for Anakin (in his mind), but what Obi-wan provides isn't what Anakin needs.
      Also, if we're blaming anyone then it's Palpatine. He's the one who manipulated everything, played Anakin AND the Jedi council. Yes, the Jedi were blind and shortsighted for falling for it, but at the end of the day, it was Palpatine pulling the strings. Why not blame him instead of one of the biggest victims of his scheme, Obi-wan? He was a victim too. He lost everything.

    It's astounding to me that people insist on hating this show even with so many emotional and interesting twists and turns, showing a story that we've all wanted to see since the 70s and fulfilling a lot of what fans have wanted for so long, like more Obi-Wan vs. Vader. All because an actress that isn't just like them is playing a main character. Not liking a character is one thing, but the kind of vitriol she got was way disproportionate, usually from people who use the word "woke" alot. Woke just means "anything outside my own experience".

    • @corriescrivener1937
      @corriescrivener1937 4 місяці тому

      actually the definition of woke means radical . specifically on the left side of politics . in order for a TV show or films to survive it needs to have a balance of both left and right ideas .too much of anything is dangerous for Society . the reason why television is failing at the moment is because everything's one-sided

    It has its flaws but I like this show anyways. Not Mandalorian or Andor quality but the things I enjoyed outnumber the things I didn’t.
    In particular I loved:
    - the idea of an Underground Railroad style organization helping Force sensitives escape the Empire (and how one of my favorite Jedi Quinlan Vos helps out on it).
    - That short scene of Obi-Wan and the homeless Clone vet. I’m a sucker for Clone characters and I like Obi-Wan has a moment to see they were just used and cast aside when they were no longer useful.
    - The Organas and Lars being loving foster parents to the Skywalker twins. I particularly like the sequence of Owen and Beru mounting a defense against Reva. It now makes me wonder/hope they put up a fight against the stormtroopers in A New Hope before dying.
    - Obi-Wan and Leia’s relationship. I love the chemistry between the actors and now Obi-Wan has a meaningful relation with both of Anakin’s kids.
    - everything about Vader/Hayden’s return. It underscores both the horror at what Anakin became and the tragedy of it all.
    - and Ewan McGregor’s performance.

Reeva still doesn't make any sense, and I really wish they'd just let her die when Vader stabbed her instead of giving her whatever weird ark this was, but Obi and Vader in this is just *chefs kiss* Ewan and Hayden breaking their backs carrying the show. If their confrontation with Reva is any indication, Owen and Beru put up one hell of a fight against the Stormtroopers in A New Hope. Also, let's talk a bit about Obi-Wan's fighting style. As you've no doubt noticed throughout the prequel trilogy and this series, he is mainly on the defensive in a fight, but he also doesn't play around - from slicing Darth Maul in half, to incinerating Grievous with his own blaster, to cutting off Vader's limbs or messing up his life support system. He may be firmly a warrior of the light, but he's not someone you want to underestimate.

    What you said about what if they didn't pick up Anakin, and he was never trained. There are a lot of "What If's" in Star Wars, and most probably that is one of them. An interesting What If is that in which Luke wasn't able to destroy the Death Star, so they hav to flee, Leia is held captive and no Aliance if assembled as everyone fears the Death Star too much. In this same what if, Darth Vader trains Leia in the ways of the sith, and when the time comes, in the Throne Room, both Palpatine and Darth Vader witness the fight between Luke and Leia, the first one with his green lightsaber, and heer sister with a red lightaber. However, I have a theory of my own for what if they didn't train Anakin. I think now Palpatine would have a clear path to the child that was his plan all alon, so he would betray Darth Maul because he has no further use of him (that's with the rule of two), and Palpatine would start training Anakin as a sith from scratch, in a similar way he did with Darth Maul earlier. So the good side of Anakin that was his experience in the Jedi temple and under the tutelage of Obi Wan would not be a part of Anakin's life, as neither it would be his love for Padme, so all the good in him would simply not be there, and the result would be a merciless ans unstopable juggernaut sith.

    Keep in mind that at no time in ANH does it say that that was the first time Obi-Wan and Vader had met since Anakin became Vader. Vader just says, "When I left you, I was but the learner" which strongly IMPLIES that that was their first meeting, but the words themselves don't actually say that. When you leave an ex, no matter how many times you may see them, there was a time when you left each other. You might meet many times after breaking up, but you left each other a few years ago or whenever.
    As a kid loving these movies when they came out, I always imagined that Vader and Obi-Wan had had a few run-ins with each other over the years.

    Actually, Anakin became Darth Vader before he put on the suit and before the battle with Obi Wan, that is, when Obi Wan cut off his limbs, he was already Darth Vader. that's where so many emotions come from.

    My thoughts on the series
    4/10, and that's not a low rating. If I gave it a higher score, it would be on a similar level to series I consider much better.
    Let's start with the plot. Well... This episode perfectly showed that Kenobi should never have left Luke. The whole idea that Bail specifically asks Kenobi for help is just plain stupid. By agreeing to help, Kenobi exposes both Luke and Leia to danger.
    Bail had access to significant resources to conduct a search. He could have hired bounty hunters, led his own investigation with the help of Alderaan's services, or even asked the Empire for assistance, which wouldn't have been unusual since the man was searching for his daughter.
    So, a huge minus.
    The acting is a very good aspect. Kenobi is an icon and was fantastically portrayed.
    Vader, I'll say this: the scene where he kills civilians to force Kenobi to fight gave me chills and was something very cool. The actress playing young Leia also did a very nice job, and I hope to see more of her.
    The weakest point is undoubtedly Reva because she is a poorly written character.
    As a child, she survived being lightsaber stabbed.
    She screams about Vader's identity and faces no consequences.
    Despite her failure, Vader promotes her.
    Then, without a real reason, she wants to kill Luke. (She didn't have 100% proof that he was Anakin's son; I would have suspected he was a new apprentice of Kenobi with the information she had.)
    Additionally, she is not scary or complex to elicit sympathy from the viewer. I felt nothing for her, and she seemed more like an annoying character.
    I would sum up the whole series with these words: It has its moments, but for the most part, it's wasted potential.

      It’s not like Obi-Wan killing Vader would’ve really changed that much. The Empire would still be in control, The Emperor would seek out a new apprentice, Alderaan would still be destroyed by the Death Star, etc.
      The one thing that probably would’ve changed is Luke wouldn’t have become as a great Jedi without his trial against defeating his father, and probably would’ve been killed by Palpatine.

      @@cmrobbins88That doesn’t justify him for letting Vader live in the first place only to allow him to kill more innocent people. If he had the opportunities to kill a dangerous threat twice, he should have taken that chance. Even if Empire was still going, he could’ve at least saved those who Vader killed after this encounter. As there are plenty of people who die in Vaders hands after this. Long story short: Allowing murder is just as bad as committing murder.

    Anakin is stronger than Obi-Wan (also in the guise of Vader), he always defeated those whom Obi-Wan could not, but it was difficult for him to defeat Obi-Wan himself despite the fact that he is stronger, but Vader's feelings prevented him from fighting to the fullest The power due to the remains oflight in Anakin was held back by Vader's power

    At the end Obi Wan finally realized the fallacy of the Jedi for taking force sensitive infants away from their families. However well meaning it may have been that approach still took away from those Jedi initiates the right to choose that life for themselves. The Jedi had also become too dogmatic, arrogant, rigid, and too stifled by traditions. They had chosen to follow the bidding of corrupt politicians rather than the will of the force. Anakin desperately needed a family, and sadly the Jedi couldn’t give him the kind of family that he needed.

    23:27 Kinda...by now, Vader NEEDED to disassociate himself from "Anakin Skywalker."
    He had lost EVERYTHING: his wife, supposedly his child, the Jedi, his soul...even his name just to find the power he yearned for.
    To keep his sanity, Vader began thinking of his past Anakin like it was another person, someone he referred to as "the Jedi." It's why the most profound symbol of RETURN OF THE JEDI is that Luke wasn't the one who "returned," but Anakin.

    This is the first time I watched one of your reactions and I loved it. Subscription added. The last two episodes of OWK were top level SW. Honestly, you should stick to the release order. Rogue One next, then S01 of Andor. From there, Mando S01 and 02, then Book Of Boba Fett, Mando S03, then Ahsoka. All are connected and take place in that order, and each series has a few moments that make you feel the way you did during the Vader/Kenobi fight here in Ep 06 of OWK. FYI, Ahsoka is essentially S05 of Rebels but in live action. Thar being said, I haven't seen Rebels yet but know the general plot points and that was enough for me to follow the Ahsoka series. I'll be watching Rebels in the future. Looking forward to what's next with you!

    Obi Wan calls Anakin “Darth” as some what of an insult as well as a sign of acceptance to what Anakin has become. Anakin and Obi Wan were Jedi, they were meant to be peace keepers and were dedicated to destroying the Sith. A sith lord takes the title of “Darth _____”, so by addressing Anakin as “Darth” at the end it felt like Obi was throwing a little shade Anakin’s way. Now out of universe, it is a reference to A New Hope where Obi Wan calls Darth Vader “Darth”. At the time of scripting “Darth Vader” was the characters actual name, not a title, so in that moment Obi Wan was basically calling him by his first name. As the series evolved this of course was changed and so this moment in the show is a nice little call back to that original moment in A New Hope while also providing subtext that in a way smooth over the retcon and make it feel natural. I always loved that detail in this show. The whole final confrontation between Anakin and Obi is so intense and sad and well done.

    An enjoyable (and emotional ride ) for you to the conclusion of this miniseries... and it was a treat to watch your reactions throughout! As you continue onward into this Galaxy far far away, it is definitely recommended that you take on ANDOR, before ROGUE ONE! Despite their release orders, the Chronology is better served and will keep you from spoilers in the Story and character's fates by viewing them this way. For the storytelling experience, you will be better served watching them according to how the history unfolds rather than when they were produced and released to the public!
    And definitely, please watch these before the Sequel Movie Trilogy.... everyone has their opinions about the Sequels (THE FORCE AWAKENS is my personal favorite of that trilogy), and I look forward to the future, where you render your own judgments after viewing them for yourself, but we are all here for the ride and seeing you get there at your own pace milady.
    Until then... May The Force Be With You, Always! 🙏🥹

    Definitely Rogue One next, it is an excellent movie.
    I am of the opinion that this episode's Obi-Wan vs Vader fight is easily the best light-saber fight in all of Star Wars, both from a technical standpoint and from a narrative one. This is a fight that shows actual footwork, and actual sword-fighting moves (slashes, parries, cuts, blocks) with a minimum of wasted movement (looking at you, ROTS, with Obi-Wan and Anakin standing two feet from each other and wildly spinning their blades around their bodies for what seems ages--is this a fight, or a baton-twirling competition?) and also very effectively tells the story of where these two characters are now in relation to each other, and to themselves. Great stuff, I will rewatch this fight any chance I get.
