PUGLIA, ITALY: Why you must visit & the BEST PASTICCIOTTO in LECCE

- The Southern Italy region of Puglia has everything you would want in a trip: beaches, incredible food, history, a slower pace of life, and friendly faces!
WHERE ELSE DO YOU WANT TO SEE ME GO IN EUROPE?! Leave a comment below, let me know!
I visited Lecce, in Salento, with my friends Jeremy, Michelle and Dominico (who live there!). THE PEOPLE of the trip made it truly incredible...but the PLACE was extraordinary, too!!
Watch the video for my favorite things in Puglia, including:
1. The beach! We went to Punta Della Suina in Gallipoli
2. Gelato. (Enough said!)
3. Linguine alla vongole -- my favorite dish I had (which was a really hard decision to make). L'Ostrica Ubriaca in Lecce has such delicious seafood!
4. The history! Explore, read, learn...you'll be happy you did.
5. The food! While you're there, you've got to try pasticciotto, have a rustico, drink some Quarta coffee, have orecchiette pasta, eat some taralli (kind of like pretzels, so addicting!). And of course, the seafood, pizza, lasagne, horse meat stewed in red wine, the list goes on...
A big thanks to the family behind Caffe L'Incontro in Lecce!! They warmly welcomed me and my camera back into their kitchen to watch how they make their incredible pasticciotto. The king of pastries in Salento!

Hi there, friends! My name is Katie and I'm a video journalist & food enthusiast. On this channel I make videos about life and delicious things. I post every week, and of course, I #keepitquirky :)
Those pasticciotto look divine, yum!
They are really something special. I've never had anything quite like it before!
Omg Katie! Pasticciotto! 😍😍 I need them in my life!
Ohhh how nice! I am Dutch but live in Brindisi for 3 years now. Cool to see that you've enjoyed yourself in Puglia. Will share your video on our B&B Facebook page. Ciao ciao!
Brindisi!! That's where I fly into Italy :) Cool! Thanks for sharing the video on your B&B Facebook page! I'm about to upload it to my Facebook page, if you want to share it from there...facebook.com/TheQKatie!
Hey Katie, indeed, there is an airport in Brindisi! Here our Facebook page: facebook.com/bbteatro/. Let us know if you ever come back, we will take you to a very nice restaurant in the region ;)!
@@carlyattention Hi from New York. Brindisi best place to be. Cafe Betty for gelato.
I loved my visit to Italy... and just to go and get to eat! Wonderful! Thanks
Isn't it a wonderful country?! Such a rich culture. If you're like me then you left a few pounds heavier, too... :)
Exactly and totally worth it! You can work it off when you get home... but the memories are there for a lifetime!
Oh... loving your Avocado Cookbook! Between you, Peckish and Just Eat... I had to have it!!
Aww, thank you so much!!! That makes me smile SO BIG!!
This was satisfying. It was offered four years ago, but you showed a regional pastry specialty. I have enjoyed all your posts, Katie, and I'd like to see other regional specialty offerings. My dessert is my dinner.
The next time you're in Lecce or any beach towns in the Puglia region of Italy, please show us a video of you and Connor dining at a local Trattoria and y'all favorite dishes from there. That would be awesome to watch because I'm extremely fond of Trattorias, they just define: authentic, casual and family style eating in Italy.
Omg what an awesome adventure.
It was DOPE! :)
I love Galatina my origin 20 km from Lecce there where the pasticciotto is born. Favoloso! Wikipedia: History The invention of pasticciotti is credited to Andrea Ascalone, a chef in the town of Galatina in Lecce, who in 1745 used ingredients left over from full-sized tortas to create a smaller cake. The name pasticciotto allegedly comes from Ascalone himself regarding his creation as a pasticcio, or "mishap".
Thank you for mentioning its origin.
Looks amazing! Great video
Hi Janelle! Thanks for watching -- so glad you enjoyed it :)
Great video! We had so much fun together in Lecce! Come back sooooon!!!
Michelle!! Such a fantastic trip -- thank you for being the host with the most!! xoxo

Hi Katie, since you reside in puglia you should visit Monopoli. My mom was from there and we've visited many times. The port is very quaint, clean, the water is clear and just an overall great place to walk around and visit. hopefully you will soon have a chance. From there it's a quick drive to the west to visit the truili homes and buildings in Alberobello, you'll get a kick out of them!
It is delicious
Marseille in France, you have to come to Marseille and visit me!! That would be soooooo amazing!!! Shamefully enough I have to confess that I have never been to Italy (though so close from where I live) but it has been a dream of mine to visit this beautiful country and thanks to your video, that desire has increased a bit more!! Thank you so much for your work and what you do!! :-D
Hello!! I've been dying to visit Marseille -- how cool that you live there! Considering that I lived in Paris and I've visited a few cities in Southern France, I can't believe I haven't been to Marseille yet. Thanks for the suggestion -- it's on my list!! And thanks so watching, I'm so glad you like my videos!!! Definitely try to make it to Italy before long :)
♥️
Love Lecce...Salento
WOW
Hi Katie! I love your video! I’m an American living in London AND making a move to Lecce at the end of the month 🙂 I’m really looking forward to it! While I am studying Italian, I’d love to meet some English speaking people to show me and my husband around. Any recommendations?
It's a shame that you can't get Quarta coffee (at a sane price) outside of Puglia. Definite must have when there. The Quarta has a chocolatey finish that is superb.
1. Corsica 2. Bethune/Dunkirk 3. Riva del Garda 4. Papenburg Germany 5. Alsace I could go on on on on on and on.
can't wait to travel again!
La mía terra
Wow.. super delicious!
I'd like to see you in Málaga!
Ooo Málaga! Noted!! Thanks for the great suggestion :)
I wish I was there! D`: Looks like you guys are havin' a great time!
Anywhere you go in Europa is special. :)
You're right, anywhere in Europe is incredible...which is why it's so difficult to decide where to travel next! I love doing these travel videos, and can't wait to do more :)
Grazie da Lecce

GREECE! YES!! I wanna make that happen.
Turin !!
Please discuss more about the "best" food in Puglia!
Katie please come to Switzerland!! I can show you around in the capital 🙊😊
That looks so good!! It would be cool if you went to Barcelona, somewhere in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Europe is so beautiful though so go everywhere you can!!! :)
Those are all awesome suggestions. It looks like a work opportunity is possible in Dusseldorf, Germany...so maybe I'll go there next?! Kinda random? We shall see what happens. I'm glad to hear you're interested in videos from Germany, though!! Thanks for the suggestions :)
yes, random! I hope it works out and good luck! :)
belgrade or even better Nis, serbian or even balkan food culture is incredible!!
Oooo! I've never been to that part of the world. Incredible -- I'd love to go. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
nooo, thank you for making incredible content :)
Hey pasticciotto where have you been all my life? ❤️
Can I put your pasticciotto video up on my web , wineandfoodtraveller, and take a look at where else we go in Italy.
Come on everybody in Lecce knows that the best pasticciotto is in Alvino bar!!!

....cosa chiedere di più....il tuo fidanzato è fortunato....ha una bella donna, vivete in un paradiso, mangiate delle prelibatezze, avete mare, sole e tantissimo calore umano ....
Have you been to other places in puglia? Lecce stand out?
Have you been to Bari in Puglia? I'm curious how that city is... Thinking of going to school there.
It's beautiful! My family is from a town in Bari.
👍👍👍👍👍💋
I'm voting for Slovenia :)
Love that vote! :) It's not far from where I was in Northern Italy!
Any hotel job there
Spain!!!!!!
Noted!! Any city in particular?!
I can only speak of Valencia, because I've lived here for just one year and there are so many things to see that I haven't even gone to any other province. But, here you can eat Paella Valenciana (and like a million other rice dishes too; there are "arrocerías", which translates to, maybe, "rice place" or similar, where you can eat so much rice), horchata (it's like a vegetal milk), cocas, so many other things.
Ooo cool, you lived in Valencia! That's actually one of the Spanish cities I've never visited (I've done Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Granada...) I am dyyying to have some of that paella now! Thanks for the tip :) xoxo
I am still living here and with no plans to go soon :) XO
Oh dang!! That's awesome!! Well then, I just might see you there soon :) :)
Ciao katie
I think this is the worst pasticciotto! The pastry cream is too liquid and the the upper dough is too clear and I'm saying it as Galatinese.
Ciao, Katie! Your ode to pasticciotti inspired us to make a beeline for Caffe L'intorno when visiting Puglia a few weeks ago. I've tagged you in my travel blog -- www.weheartricksteves.com. Hope you enjoy it - and grazie!
ur cool
You're cool! Thanks for watching :)
Go to Croatia!
Oooo, OKAY! I'd love to go. Any tips for when I go?
@@TheQKatie Go when your government and their government says it's safe!
....why not try Afganistan?
In italian
"linguini"?
Maybe less of you and your friends please and more of the gorgeous country side. I suggest you check out the top travel videos. In those most of the commentary is off camera.
