A Day in Naples… WITHOUT PIZZA | feat. @vincenzosplate
Naples is one of my favorite cities in the world, but every time I visit I eat nothing but pizza. Pizza for breakfast, pizza for lunch, pizza for dinner, and sometimes for dessert (seriously, with nutella).
My Italian wife, Eva, is determined this time to show me all of the other incredible Neapolitan food. The only question is… can I last a whole day there without pizza?
We were also lucky to be joined by a very special guest. Grazie mille to @vincenzosplate for sharing a bite (or two) with us! Go check out his channel 😍
If you enjoy this video, please give it a thumbs-up and subscribe to the channel!

Ciao from Naples! Who would like to see a video of Vincenzo visiting us in Eva's hometown of Dasà??
Yes. And you visit him in Abruzzo!
YES!!!
Yes, absolutely!
Yes, absolutely! And I second that you guys should go to Abruzzo, (to which I'm especially partial, since it's my ancestral region! )
Certo!
One of the most fun food experiences ever. Love you guys. Harper put on 1kg on that day. Street food in Naples is the best of the besf
It was so much fun! We’ll have to do it again soon!
I can't wait to see a collab showing us a recipe soon.
Love your videos too Vincenzo!
It was great to share part of that day with you all! ❤️
Great to see you here Vincenzo 🤗
5 days in Napoli and I put on 5kgs of Happiness 🤣😍
Absolulety loved this video. I miss you and Napoli Already, can we go back? Amazing cinematography guys.
The collaboration we’ve all been waiting for. Thank you to both channels for teaching us science, history, culture, language and amazing food. I know I’ve said it before but I’ve learned so much.
I agree! This is such an amazing collaboration of my favorite Italian food chefs and experts!
I see Naples kind of like an italian New Orleans. Lots of soul and heart, amazing local food, a fascinating history and world-famous local traditions and there's always a close reminder of how at risk the city is and despite that, the people remain stubbornly resilient.
BTW i loved that you finally met with Vincenzo, you should do more of these collabs when you come here.
That’s a good comparison! No wonder Eva wants to go to New Orleans so badly… 🤔
@@PastaGrammar what are you guys waiting for then ahah I'm sure she'll love New Orleans
More like a Monterrey, Mexico minus UNESCO sites and Maradona
New Orleans had a very strong Italian influence, especially before Katrina.
@@mygetawayart New Orleans has some of the greatest food of any city in the world, unfortunately it's rife with crime.
RE: the portion where Harper asks about all the Maradona statues: I was blessed enough to be stationed at the Naval Hospital in the western End of Naples (not far form the stadium now named after Maradona) 1987-1991.. I arrived in the city a couple months after Maradona led SSC Napoli to their first championship in history, and they barely missed out on a double the next year, Finally scraping out another in 1990. Being part of the giant procession from the stadium all the way to the Royal Palace piazza (and ending up on regional television in the process) is an experience I will **never** forget. I was 6'6" blond skinny American Sailor wandering along in that crowd of Neapolitans, dressed head to toe in the Azure blue that is the team's signature.. 5 different soccer scarves, and one of the huge silk flags that were everywhere in the city. I shrine was created to his memory in the Quartieri Spagnoli district after his tragic passing [which is now officially considered criminal in Argentina - final results pending]. As Eva indicated, He was effectively a Demigod in the city and environs, definitely surpassing San Gennaro, the city's patron saint.
I had hoped for years to return to Bella Napoli and see so many of the changes in the 25 years since I had left (30 now) but my major health issues and finances rule that out, barring a miracle. That's the same obstacle that keeps me from doing one of these yours with Eva/Harper.
Eva & Harper, I can't begin to tell you how much i LOVE these videos from Italy!! Realistically I'll probably never visit Italy and you've given me a beautiful vision of where and how my parents lived before coming to the U.S. Thank you so very much for all the work you do every week---I adore both of you.
Thank YOU! So glad to hear you’re enjoying them!
@@PastaGrammar she is writing that she will NEVER visit italy......
Why won’t you ever visit Italy? I’m trying to plan my 5th trip over to the European Boot(shoutout to Louisiana).
@@Cicero82 not everyone can afford it, or has vacation time, etc.
@@carlo9063, Bridget did NOT say she refuses to go to Italy, but that she may not be ABLE to go. Her parents came from Italy, and she gave compliments to Eva & Harper for showing what might have been their day-to-day life.
As soon as I saw castle Nuovo in the background which is very familiar to me because of the Many port visits during my naval Career. I do not recall the names of many of the restaurants and trattorias I visited. but I did try most of them in the area around the castle and port. My favorite non pizza dish is definitely Parmigiana Di Melanzane, and just about any pasta with clam dishes. There was an old family lunch restaurant near the old Navy Exchange before it moved up to Gricignano di Aversa. They made the best Neapolitan Lasagna I ever had! thank you both so much for bringing back wonderful memories 🙂
absolutely insane guys! our jaws dropped watching this. we are also big fans of Vincenzo. eva, please please please show us how to make the pasta allo scammaro when you guys get back to the states. best wishes. Jim and Laurie Canciglia.
Great to see no filthy masks 😷 in Italy
Thanks for show us with respect the country of pizza, pasta, pasticceria, parchi nazionali, ect ect. Thanks
Yay! My two favorite Italian food YT channels in my favorite Italian city. So great to see Eva and Vincenzo together. Thanks for the collab and also for showing everyone how fantastic Napoli food is, especially the non-pizza cuisine. When I was working in Toscana (Lucca) in summers I would frequently take a 6 pm train down to Napoli just for the weekend to get away and eat. I'd get there around 10 pm and go straight to my favorite hotel and restaurants. Another highlight is the aperitivi between 5 and 8 pm in the wine bars of the Chiaia or Vomero districts.
Harper was also there…
ah my beloved Chiaia district. I would take the Metro line from Bagnoli over to Piazza Amedeo, grab a gelato, wander to the west down to a tavola calda/pizzeria run by a dear freind Pasquale. He introduced me to pizza made with potato flour, besciamella, and other simple stuff.. I would eat away for an hour, downing a bottle of Lancer's Rpse', end up fed and tipsy and then would either grab a movie at the tiny cinema nearby (first encoutetr with an Almodovar movie - Law of Desire, starring Antonio Banderas in his gorgeous early days), and then head eastward down to Piazza Dei Martiri, site of the SSC NApoli offices. There was a very famous Caffe called "La Caffetiera" note the spelling. It was a reference to the special style pot they used in making coffee. Then wandered down into the Villa Comunale regions, walking along the Lungomare (seaside walk) and then ending up in a tiny discotheque in the basement of one of the buildings next to one of the Facolta' building of the oldest university in Europe. I would emerge around 6AM, find something to eat and then grab a bus back to the Fuorigrotta section and then the train/bus back to the base. That repeated peregrinage is one of my dearest memories of my 4 years in Napoli
@@ZakhadWOW Great stories! I always stay at the Pinto Storey hotel in Piazza Amedeo. Great little place, been there in some form since about 1870 as a hotel, with great views of Vomero and the bay. I've taken friends who've never been to Napoli for weekends in the city and after being nervous at first, they fall madly for Napoli!
And now I need to go to Naples. That tambourine guy was impressive. And as you usual, you two are adorable.
every episode is immaculate and fascinating, i've been to Italy - but not THIS Italy that you're able to discern so perfectly! Naples look and sounds like a whole other world, never mind just in Italy, this was really exciting to watch. thank you!!
In Naples they say: rich people in the world eat like poor people in Naples. My favorite city in Italy by far
Awesome! You both helped me a lot with cooking! Your channel and Vincencos are the best 👍
Napoli is my all-favorite place in whole Italy so far. Amazing video!!!!
We're from Naples and brought all of our peasant food with to America. We still eat all of it and you'd need several episodes to cover all of it. All of the best Italian food is peasant food in my opinion 😋
Napoli is the most magical city.
Good to see Vincenzo in your video. He's my favorite, and I like you 2 also. Nice to see you're friends. ❤️👍❤️
I hope that we will get to see you prepare some of these mouth watering dishes/items soon?
Brava!!! Perfect!!! Vincenzo & Harper & Eva spending the time together in Naples!!
Pasta Grammar and Vincenzo making Italian food wonderful.
I’m with you, Harper! I love Naples. I’ve finally mastered making sfogliatelle because I missed them so much. Safe travels guys!
You all have convinced me to make southern Italy my next trip. So nice to see Vincenzo with you, my favorite vloggers together.
My family comes from Naples but sadly I’ve never been there. Maybe someday! Watching now! Hope you two are having a wonderful time in Italy!
Thank you both for this wonderful tour of Naples. My mother's family hails from Napoli and I'll probably never make it there, so I'm living vicariously through your wonderful channel. Your videos have brought me a lot of joy and entertainment, as life has been difficult in recent years. My mother is deceased, and I miss the Italian traditions I enjoyed in my younger years. Thank you both again for your beautiful and fun videos! Peace & Love - Julie Maria from Syracuse, NY
Same! My great-great grandparents hailed from Napoli, and I feel ashamed that I never bothered to look up what it’s like there! I feel so dumb for not having done so, because it’s the only part of my family that I know a good deal about...
When I was around 13 I remember asking my great-grandmother to remind me if her folks were from Naples or Sicily, because I forgot and was working on a family heritage paper for school. I could instantly see that she was offended I’d even think for a second that the family was Sicilian! I’d never seen her like that lol... She whipped around and looked straight in my eyes while saying _“We are from Naples and don’t you ever forget it!”_ You bet I never made that mistake again! 😂
Later on in life, I figured out why she had such a visceral reaction to such an innocent question. It’s because there is such a difference in Italians from the regions - I was essentially asking her if we were black, because Sicilians were usually darker with more African genetics in them, and it was a really big deal in her day for others to know that one was not from _THAT_ part of Italy. Haha.
Merveileux. What a good idea .Nice video well done. Thanks from Quebec Canada
As a Neapolitan expat, I was waiting for this "episode". What to say....Thank you guys, you are the best!
Amazing really the 2 best food off the soul channels together Harper Eva Vincenzo god bless you all thank you for sharing that day with bus really.
My 2 favorite Italians ♥️ My 2 favorite UA-cam channels ♥️
Love you too Harper 🥰
I’ve been hooked on your show for months now, but this episode came at exactly the perfect time! Two days into my trip to Naples, two more to go
Beautiful vid.. Grazie Eva and Harper! Ciao Al from SW Florida 🌴 🌞
How wonderful that you sampled the local specialities, and waited for the pizza.
I LOVE Naples! Thank you!
I would love Eva to show us her take on the spaghetti allo scammaro! Everything you guys shared with us and Vincenzo was a smiling experience. Thank you so much!
I'd never heard of a scammaro tbh, it's a bit like a "con le sarde" without the sardines.
Yes I want to see her make that so I can see it, cause the ingredients combo sounds interesting on the surface
Everything looks delicious. I was surprised when I saw vincenzo there. Have lots of fun 😀
I love both Pasta Grammar and Vincenzo's Plate! It's always a joy to see these channels together! :)
I miss Napoli so much, hope to go back this summer when I'm done with the uni exams. I'll use this video as a guide for sure, but I'm going to eat at least one pizza.
Thank you guys!
Don't forget to visit the famous “Pasticceria Scaturchio”, where they entered (1:21). :)
When I've been in Napoli, in 2018, I rented a very small apartment (a REALLY small one) in Via Nilo, at the heart of the old city. But it was perfect because I spent most of my time outside. It's a wonderful city.
I like the fact you show us other kind of food besides pizza. Almost all of the time you only see the italian food as only pizza and pasta.
The best thing on utube is Eva , I love her .
My two favourites together !! this is going to be the best 🤗..I'm from sydney and have met Vincenzo and now I'm looking forward to meeting Eva and Harper one day !! thankyou for doing this video together in my home town of Napoli..grazie mille 😘😘😘
Thanks!
Really pleased for both your channels meaning up! I follow you both! FANTASTIC! You should do more!
I love Naples, I want to go back so bad!!!! Great video! ❤️🙏
Two of my favorite UA-cam channels together again! Thank you very much for this!!!
I am crying😭😭😭😭...I am from Naples, born there 66 years ago and raised there for almost 29 years. I have been in the US since 1985. And yes, I miss my home. But let's go back to food. Where is the Baba'??
Next video
Amazing, amazing, amazing Eva and Harper! All that delicious food especially the melanzane and the ragu had my mouth watering. Glad seeing you ended up having the pizza anyway. I would have done the same. Harper's reward for going an entire day without :). Great seeing Vincenzo, too.
Wow two of my best Italian food channels collaborating.Much love #Vincenzo'sPlate
Every single food you ate looked glorious ❣️😋
Such a great channel. Always exciting to try the recipes.

The 6 or years in Naples taught me soooo much about all the great Neapolitan foods!
Ciao Harper, Eva and Vincenzo! So nice to see the three of you together in Naples. My parents are from Napoli and I have really enjoyed your highlights of some of the traditional dishes! Thank you!

Greetings from Germany 👋🏻❤️🙂
At 4:40 the shopowner was gonna come out and make the musician eat his cimbale. That's the most acurate italian thing i've seen in a long time
😂😂😂
This was an amazing video from both you guys. I love the cross over between y'all and Vincenzo plate !!!!!!!!
This is sooo coool! Vincenzo!
It is true that Naples cuisine is much more than pizza, you shown some of the most interesting plates, like trippa sfogliatelle, taralli, and nevertheless many more are missing! I enjoyed the meeting with Vincenzo another really expert of Italian cuisine.
I love you guys together. So much fun. I wish more UA-camrs would collaborate. Yes, let’s see you all visit Dasa.
Oh yes, please go to Dasa with Eva and Harper, Vincenzo! Also, so wonderful to see you all together!
One of the best videos! I loved it. Thanks a million!
My favorite channel people together makes my heart sing!
I love this veo and the way you express all the impressions about Naples. It is an incredible city.
It's really nice and funny to see that in the same week we went to 'A Cuccuma and ordered the same dish : Spaghetti allo scammaro. Delicious!
In Napoli there is romm for pizza lovers and for any other person willing to enjoy a nice meal, the beauty of the city and the best feelings from Neapolitans.
Hello Eva and Harper: Thank you so much for another wonderful video. Eva: every time I see one of these videos I am astounded at you knowledge of foods - including regional differences. I love Napoli - though I have not been there in many years. My grandmother was from Salerno and married a man from Nettuno. However, they lived in Napoli when their children were born (my mother and her siblings) and lived in Napoli for a few years before they went to the states. I have many cousins in Napoli and remember the food very dearly. It is always so lovely. My cousin once made a tripe salad with fresh and pickled vegetables which was served as a cold antipasto and I fell in love with tripe!! I will never forget it. Thanks again. D
It was lovely seeing the sights of Naples in this video. Watching the video also made me realise all the value added Harper brings to this channel, with his experience of multimedia formats. He always comes up with engaging themes to make you want to watch. Today they’re in Naples but Eva is devoted to local dishes that aren’t pizza. Will they have a pizza or do without? Watch and see.
And Harper is throwing in Vicinzo with his website to add a bit more synergy to today’s episode. Amazing!
I learn a lot from both channels... Grazie
Italian food is the best, hands down! And what a collaboration! Two of my fave Foodtubers finally meet up in person. I hope you did an entire video series together, it can't get better than this. Greetings from Germany
Your UA-cam channel brings me so much joy! ❤❤
Molto bene ragazzi, gran giro, grandi piatti, sempre bella Napoli e i bravi Napoletani in cucina! Statv' bbuon'!!!😁😁😁
Wow so nice to see the three of you in the same video ❤️ YES go to Calabria
Wow! Of course there's more to Naples than pizza.that all looks delish!
What a great video ! As well
As a great surprise from Vincenzo !
This has set me up for a fantastic, long UK, Jubilee bank holiday. I'm not interested in watching our Queen, I'm going to spend the time off bingeing two of my favourite Italian food channels on UA-cam.
Bravissimo!
Nice to see my friend Vincenzo meet up with you. Looki g forward to seeing Vincenzo when he gets back to OZ and share our food visits. Great video guys and keep up the content. Sorry couldn't meet up when I was in Italy 3 weeks ago. It was like missing out everytime you were in town in Parma and Bologna. Ciao from Australia 🇦🇺
So good to see you guys together!! I subscribe to both of your channels and absolutely love them both.
Love the video and great to see Vincenzo👍 Living in southern Germany I've been to Italy many times and love the traditional food (more than just pizza) architecture and ambiance. Btw, if I can say Eva you have amazing hair!
You did an amazing job. There are so many more specialties to cover and yes besides pizza. Well done.
