- Here at Hoonigan, it's pretty much a given that old-school DTM footage is playing somewhere on our screens. The late 80s/early 90s were one of the finest points of automotive racing in Germany. But it's very much a "don't meet your heroes" situation sometimes when it came to the street versions of these DTM monsters. You'd be hard pressed to say these days that the 190e Evo is "fast", and it definitely didn't have the greatest fitment in the world. So Tim Lajambe took it upon himself to create what in his mind is the perfect 190e street car.

My dream build would be a w202 c class or e190 evo 2, I’d put full dtm style road legal body kits upgrade the internals, upgrade exhaust and maybe put in a bitching sequential 😍😍shame it would cost upwards of £50,000!!!
@@HollowR6S hey man, just work on it slowly. im 17 and just got a 88 190 (carbed not injection), theres a lot of body work to do but luckily my uncle is a panel beater and painter, so slowly im gonna make it to my taste and when i get bored engine swap etc... its very do able your dream just work hard for it and remember the changes dont need to happen over night
I have a 230 ce (w124 coupe 1989) the engine on my car is on the brink to becoming broken (lots of knocking noises and leaking everywhere)
I have not decided whether i should just restore the old engine or just buy an ls engine and swap the hole kit (transmission included, even the suspension should be upgraded when swapping from 4 cyl to v8 i believe)
And btw boschs ke jettronic problems make me roll my eyes... Thats why im also considering swapping to another engine..)
Hopefully people dont start buying 190s keep them cheap for me
Thats why i love underrated cars.
They're getting kinda popular here in Northern Europe, because of the classic/veteran status, which cuts down enormously on road taxes. I find myself checking the German market more and more often, keep those cars out of the crusher!

I was stationed in Germany for 13 years and went to every DTM race I could, The ADAC 24 Stunden and more. Great build and tribute to an awesome series/ time.

This car is so sick, and Tim is such a humble guy. I've talked to him a few times about my own builds and he takes the time and is always so cool. The industry needs more guys like him. Great build Tim, hope to see it and you in person this summer.

Changing the stock mirrors was mistake, IMHO. Those asymmetric originals were special.

I'll be honest, I do kinda agree with them though. There are so many Mercedes engines (like the m103 this car could come with) that are SICK and nobody touches them in America. Only a few people who mess with them and they're all in Europe, most notably a guy running 1300hp on the street with a mostly stock m104. They're insanely strong because they started out as a diesel, which is why you can stick the om605 diesel crank in the m104 and build a 3.6 stroker with mostly factory parts. Cool ass engines, wish this car had one in it.
Un Listed the reason why people don’t touch Them is the after market support. When you have a engine nobody don’t know how to tune ect. It’s kinda hard to do and it takes a lot of money to get parts. When you can get a v8 literally from a junkyard and get cheap parts and make great power. You’re right though it would have been great to do a different swap but I understand why he didn’t.
My guess is that they ran out of time,as with most show cars , and it will be getting Vibrant clamps as he intends to drive this car some day. Plane old hose clamps would look like shit even t type would look out of place in such a clean built engine bay. The attention to detail on the rest of the car makes me think he put some on and said take them off .
@@pkuudsk9927 same can be said for all the bluetooth driveshafts. It's gonna be pointed out at SEMA. Should change the name since its not held to the same standards as before.

The Mercedes 190e evo2 is my favorite car, it's such a hidden gem with so little of them being made, this episode of autofocus is a treat even if it's v8 swapped
we only get 3 months of nice weather in Canada to be able to drive cars like this...Mad Respect for this build!!!

I Love this car! I've always had a soft spot for the 190E as it was my first car and kept it for about 8 years! I would love to do something crazy like this! I've always fantasised about doing a racy version with a Merc v8 manual and also a modern engine with an automatic gearbox.

I had a 1986 190e 2.3amg. I used as a daily driver. Now I wished I kept it to and made it my toy. It have been nice to make it into something like that.

I have owned 2 v8's of this chassis I had a 94 and 95 e420 and that thing drove like a dream and i did straight pipe them both and they sounded amazing as well dohc 4.2 v8 was like a mini dohc 6.2 AMG's

I love that old DTM Cars - but IMO THE Part with made the Evo 2 Benz 190 unique was the huge rear wing - the genuine one! Crazy car, but the rear wing looks sooo aftermarket.....

I'm a Mercedes guy, he had me when he couldn't bring himself to cut an Evo, let alone an Evo 2. That's an incredibly abundant, affordable, reliable and solid platform to go as wild as the builder wants to. Excellent result, we do know that a Mercedes V8 will be really expensive, and an LS just makes a lot of sense on this application.

Used to see alot of the stock 190E usually only with a NA engine. But this is still cool though. There was a few drawbacks with that one, rust especially, but we use salt on our roads as a de-icer in the winter. But another thing to remember is that it has a cast-iron oil-pan as the lowest point of the car....

This was a dream of mine at one time, i bought a 190e, then continued to spend my money smoking weed. The engine blew (timing chain) and I just abandoned that whole idea completely.. I realized, i didn't want to build cars as much as I once felt like i wanted to anyways.. LoL!
