So glad I found this channel! You’ve become a beacon of hope and positivity to another over 50 single woman living in an apartment! ❤️ Watching your videos it’s like chatting with my most favorite neighbor! Just a delightful reprieve from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Keep doing what you’re doing because you bring so much sunshine to so many! ☀️🙂💛
Absolutely. I’m a designer and I tell all my clients please do not follow trends. Buy what you love and I’ll help them make it work. BUY WHAT YOU LOVE!!!
Agree!! Very homey and warm! I also feel, when all of life fails us, at least I have God in my life. I like beautiful things, not necessarily expensive things, but even beautiful things are temporary. When I die I'm looking forward to eternity with Jesus. John 3:16. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son and whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
You are absolutely gorgeous! And, you're giving me the inspiration to really decorate my new place going forward. I haven't felt like decorating much since my divorce. I decorated our beautiful large home and was forced to leave. Now, I am starting to think that I deserve to live in luxury again, even if it's only me. TFS!
When you said 23:45 "find your passion and then find a way to make money doing it. Be true to yourself and success will follow." That really spoke to me. I was forced out of my profession in May of 2020. I am 60 years old now. I started to write about the circumstances leading to this but decided not to. The point is; your comment has given me a fresh perspective on my future. Thank you 🤗 💗
Oh Susan, what a pleasure it is to see you and Desi again this week. I always feel like I’ve had a visit with a dear friend 💕 My weeks are full of my work and very little time to stop and appreciate the loveliness around me. You have made me look at and appreciate my surroundings with fresh eyes. Walking around my home and garden, I love my duck egg polka dot tablecloth on the kitchen table with a teapot 🫖 filled with Earl grey tea, an old silver picture frame with a photo of my ‘babies’ (all grown up now!) a tall yellow vase 🏺 with flecks of gold, a small ivory orchid and outside the roses 🌹have been blooming with their gorgeous scent while I have been working away at my desk 👩🏼💻 each day. This week I am going to take some time to appreciate what is around me. Thank you Susan, you and Desi have a good safe week, look forward to seeing you again soon 👋🏼💜
I feel you girl!!! The feeling of coming home to a nicely decorated, well organized clean home is priceless, no matter how small or large that space is.. You go girl, beautiful home.
Candles, houseplants, and pillows are my obsession. Thankfully, they are inexpensive for the joy they bring me. My bedding is all white. I have my mom's chandelier hanging above my bed. Yes, a sanctuary.
I love you so much LittlePoet, ma'am. I am 50 years old I learn so much from you. My mother has already gone to Heaven a long time ago and I miss her so much! I believe that if she were still alive that she would be a lot like you because she was so beautiful and she liked beautiful things. Thank you so much for helping me to remember my mother and for helping me to remember how to have Style! Have a wonderful day and tell Desi I said hello 🥰😍🤩💗❤💖💋💘🥰
Susan, you have wisdom. Your trials and tribulations have not been for nothing. You are a beautiful spirit and soul. I enjoy watching you and Desi so much. Sweet sense of humor and great advice! Have a beautiful week!
You are absolutely delightful to listen to and watch. I just feel your graciousness and kind heart. I always watch in awe of what you create "on a dime"...I am so happy for the life you have created and grateful for the life you share with the rest of us! Thank you Susan!
Sometime ago I heard someone say "My house is clean enough to be healthy and messy enough to relax". I like that and with raising 5 children I was helped by that thought! Now that they are gone and I am widowed I have come into my own when it comes to decorating. When I bought my last condo I choose very neutral tones of beige to desert and adobe shades. My sofas already were off white linen and it has been very satisfying bringing it to where it is now... I have lovely light and great flow. I am happy but do continue to go for the 'clean/messy' thing! I try to use good thrift shops for great finds in natural fibers and wood and stone... My favourite mirror I purchased new for a great price but the colour was horrid ... the frame was fantastic elaborate cuttings and the bevel just set it off. My son spray painted it with 3 or 4 cans of very off white ... Yes... to bring out your own personality, comfort for friends and visitors .
i decorate to impress me... my soul, my peace ...the world according to me. I love when the sun goes down and all my little lamps and candles are glowing. I love mirrors, especially with a small lamp reflected in it. I collect old blue and white dishes, tarnished silver trays and candlesticks and wood cutting boards. It is so visually cozy and charming to me. I am 70, live alone and would just love to walk through that beautiful little oasis of the water and rocks and gazebo. I can feel the cool water on my feet as I sit on a rock and enjoy the tranquility. You are very blessed to live in such a beautiful area. You deserve it . Have a happy , peaceful day.
Most everything in my home is old antiques. Funny thing is most of it has required stripping and lots of repair. Maybe the thing I love the most is the challenge of making it beautiful. Thank you for sharing your life and your home with me. I love your realism.Quiet refreshing.
SO warm and inviting , colorful and unique. As a person collects pieces gradually over time this is what creates this uniqueness. Its your own eclectic vibe. My favorite vibe. Great job, Susan!
Lovely video. Once I stopped buying decorating magazines and watching decorating shows, I could start listening to my heart. I love my house now! I have no desire to change anything, except occasionally when I find some that really speaks to me. My husband tells me all the time how much he loves our home. What's funny is that my women friends never say anything about our house, but there has never been a man that hasn't loved this house. The air conditioner repair guy last month just kept saying "I wish my girlfriend could see this house. I love this house." Something I was not aiming for. LOL I love my house too. We have to decorate for us.
Thank you Susan, for your wonderful channel. I love it. I love your creativity and your energy. You have (and are) helping me through my life. So grateful!!!
Your home is your Castle. I've seen videos of people that live in Shacks and put a small piece of wallpaper up as a picture and curtains .Thank you for sharing your tips with us. Some of my favorite pieces are from thrift stores. Thank you for all your hard work with your videos and the links. I bought the bedding 🤩
This is a great video. I decorate, clean, and organize because I am grateful for my home. My decor is a reflection of my personality and life journey, and when I invite a friend into my home they are entering a place in my world which I do not allow just anyone to see. I love to nurture people with homemade food served on beautiful plates, and that is not to show off but to create a beautiful memory for them and for myself. I so agree with you that the world is a harsh place, but when we come home and close the door behind us, we have entered a peaceful refuge and a microcosm of the world we desire to live in.
I loved your thoughts, insights, wisdom- and of course, your VERY beautiful home! Please take more time showing the scenes, it's such a joy to let the eyes rest on those stunning lovable multi-layered arrangements and take them all in without any hurry. I found it all just a bit too fast! I also love your "more is more (and less is a bore, as Iris Apfel says)" attitude. Wonderful, generous, cozy, bountiful, awesome. Greetings from Bavaria, take care and have a wonderful day!
Over 20 yrs ago. I asked an older cousin. How could she afford the beautiful things in her home. She said, Yard sales, estate sales etc So I asked her to show me how to shop. My home or apt have always shine with Thrift store, yard sales. Now people believe where I shop now because it got to be popular. Love your decor. Keep the good work up. Thanks
Most important I want to say is that a house should be a home, just like yours! I think you create a home for yourself by decorating it with the things you really love, weather it's a trend or not. I love to combine old with new, which gives the house a personal touch. Love to go to thriftstores and find real treasures. Susan, your house is wonderful! It gives a warm welcoming feeling. Hug for you and sweet Desi from The Netherlands, Nina 💗
This video is right on time in my life. We’re currently in the process of painting and reconfiguring our downstairs living spaces. We bought this house new 6 years ago. For 6 years downstairs has been mostly a multipurpose area. We have a large loft space upstairs and that is what I consider the living room. It seems my health has been a battle since we got here. Well. We took out the massive treadmill and the big bakers rack ( both were in the kitchen), relocated the office spaces for my husband and daughter to the mostly unused guest room and started painting. I’m happy with the progress but won’t lie to you. I get lost in how to bring spaces together. Three adults children are still living with us and have been so happy and eager to help. It still feels awkward to me. So thank you for your tips! A few years ago you talked about oil paintings. I want you to know that you inspired two friends and myself to look for them and we’re loving what we have found. Happy Fourth of July Susan, Desi and dear followers.
Hi Susan, you seem to see beauty wherever you go then bring it to us. You also bring beauty and magic into your own home 🏡. Love it all! An artist and a poet xx
I know what you mean about trying to impress people. We did that when we were young. we filled our home with Ethan Allen furniture, that we couldn't afford. We didn't know who we were or what we wanted out of life. Now, we're in our sixties, and we've traveled the world for 12 years. Recently we bought an apartment in Georgia (Europe). We paid cash for it, and it's the first time we've ever, truly owned anything, outright. Now, we get to decorate it just the way we want to, without feeling judged by anyone. Thank you, Susan, for sharing another inspiring video!
I too used to decorate to impress people, but once I got a divorced after 4 children and 16 years of marriage. I just lost my interest in fashion and decorations. I felt like that was part of who I was with my ex. After 23 years of being divorced, children, grandchildren and going through a journey of cancer. I didn't worry about pleasing people anymore. Plus I had to learned to be without for a very long time.. Now, I decorate because I love it. You're home is beautiful just like you!!! I love all of your beautiful wall decor. I was wondering about Michigan. And then you said it was a beautiful place to live! Have a beautiful blessed 4th of July weekend!!! ❤❤❤
It's written somewhere that pride is a sin....NEVER try to keep up with the Jones' lifestyle or decorate for others to impress. You are a lovely woman and have beautiful taste. I'm happy to see you adopt to a love affair with home decor now. I have worked in home decor for 26 years and still am obsessed with alllllll the pretty things and design layouts out there! My approach to it all is thru an artists eye because that's how I was raised. My dad taught me how to paint and draw in his studio in our basement, the whole family selling his paintings out of a van at Woodstock (I was 3 yrs old lol), sunday trips to museums with dad, art books of my father's favorite period (renaissance) on our coffee table , my mom with beautiful decorating taste, steel sculptures thru-out our home because my dad was a welder by trade.......and so much more influence growing up that I carried it with me learning a love for art history and the interior decor world as a hobby and profession! I don't have any money but I can make a shack look beautiful lol ....my entire little home is my sanctuary
Decorate so people feel warm and cozy when they enter your home. That's how I want people to feel when they enter my home. Then they can look around and notice the "nice stuff"! I love buying things from the thrift store! I find so many nice things that belonged to someone else first! My bedroom is just my style for me. It is pink, rose, blue and green. I use beautiful vases filled with Rose's and a lovely rose covered quilt over my dusty pink bedspread. It's very feminine and my husband doesn't mind a bit!
Someone once told me my home was cozy. I thanked her, despite doubting her intentions. Our home is decorated with a mix of inherited and thrifted treasures people want to look at. Cozy is better than big, ostentatious or expensive. For my family, cozy is cool!
In the videos that I have been watching I’ve learned I’m in style with grand millennial. I’m right in style “granny style”. I too, have second hand pieces that I treasure, and my bedroom is my sanctuary. I don’t shy away from color, and have lots of plants too. I have seen friends home where they decorate to show and impress. So glad I’m not like that. You’re a joy and so is Dezi. Happy Fourth. 🇱🇷🇱🇷
You have such a knack for decorating, Susan! I love that you do it on a budget! I told my kids that probably 90 percent of everything I have in my home is from garage sales or thrift stores, so if anything ever happens to me they can just get a dumpster and throw it all in there.... probably wouldn't amount to over a few hundred bucks for the entire household! Funny thing is, that is why they will have an inheritance! I hope you and Desi have a great week! -xoxo
Wow!!I remember when you moved!!Time flies.Your channel has helped me so much.I'm almost 58 and nearing Retirement .Plotting and planning.Tiny House and buy land. Then i watch your video's.I to am fine w an apartment to downsize and decorate on the cheap!!But cute!!But w an Ozzy 😻!!!💞💞
I agree with your theory. My house is a compilation of people who’ve left me things, people who are giving me things. A lot of memories reside in this house and I’m always astounded when somebody thinks that it’s so beautiful. It’s just me and I like me. Thank you
I decorate my tiny cottage to please only one person, and that’s ME. I have thrift stores finds, antiques and second hand items that speak to me. My cottage is eclectic like me and it’s enchanting and resonates. I don’t get a lot of guests but those they come to my cottage love it. Nothing overly matches yet it all just goes together. Blessings 🙏🏻
Thank you for this video❤️ As I look around the living room of my apartment, I’d say it’s 99% thrifted. What was not thrifted, I’ve have a very long time. My most cherished item is a “Pearl Beer” neon clock that my parents had in our restaurant on Padre Island Texas back in the 1950’s. Still keeps perfect time. I’d say my style is memories and eclectic thrown together. My greatest complaint came from my son. He had been out of the USMC for about a year and living with his wife in a nearby town. He had come over to help me with something and as he was sitting on the couch he said “It feels good, it just feels like home” ❤️
“It feels good, it just feels like home” ..this is so lovely to know...it takes a lot for a son to open up and say that...that is true life success! Your words brought a few tears and a huge smile!! Happy 4th to you and yours! ! xxoo Sues & Desi
This is so special to hear your story. How many sons say "it feels like home". After they have grown up they are usually pretty vested in thier own life. It is very clear his memories of home were beautiful. When you think about that, mom's are the decorators of our home as well as decorators of childrens lives. Your decor must have been priceless to receive a compliment like that.
I am by myself for the very first time in my life! Lost my husband of 40 year suddenly …. then went through Hurricane Ida and by the Grace of God and many many prayers … came out alive and well and my house in excellent shape while others had damage … never underestimate the power of prayer! 🙏🏻🙏🏻Put the house we lived in up for sell and moved to Alabama to be close to my kiddos! I went from a 1800 sq ft house … 3 bd rms / 2 1/2 baths …. A really nice as far being really well taken care of …. Painted … white trim … 2 bed rms. 1 bath … small living area and a kitchen … dining room … washer/dryer area! Has a little patio out from kitchen that is private and can’t wait to doll it up! Well I have quite a chore ahead of me … trying to make the lil apartment home! I plan to watch a lot of your vlogs recent and earlier to get tips! It is strange to be by myself …. always had someone …. not now! I actually am decorating for Me! Started with my bedroom and I am starting slow. So enjoy your vlog and sweet Desi! Such a cute lil guys! 🙏🏻🙏🏻👏👏🌹
I only decorate with things I love and bring joy to my life. The quantity of stuff is not important but the trick is to decorate with items that make you happy. Looking around my home, I have filled it with thrifted finds, when I find something that immediately speaks to me, my rule is to donate the piece I am replacing which keeps the clutter at bay. Waking up everyday to beauty makes my heart sing. Have a wonderful week ❤️😊❤️
Dearest Susan, I found your videos about a week ago and enjoy them so much that I look forward to watching each and every new one I find. I live alone and work from home, and hearing your lovely, lilting voice makes me feel like I have a dear friend visiting me. Yesterday, I paused your video so I could throw in a load of laundry, and caught myself saying, "I'll be right back Sweetie." Thank you so much for sharing your life and your pictures. You brighten my day. Maggie
Too funny...😆 cat lady but no smell! Love ya. 💘 you hit the nail on the head. Decorate for yourself. It's your haven. Your safe place. 🙏 your home is beautiful and so are you.🤗
My favorite thing is decorating. An ease, an elegance, uniquely your own. Haphazard style like you're not trying is what appeals to me. I don't like all matching furniture like a bedroom set or living room. I love pieces that when brought together show who you are, patterns, colors, lighting, smell of cookies in the oven. I love light colors with mixes of black because it's so elegant. I stay away from patterns only in accessories. I love plating never knew that was I was doing lol. I love plates. Msybe sprinkles of Asian flair an homage to my mom. She loved it. Sprinkles, is just right. I love your place it is cozy and welcoming. My visitors always leave with ideas. And I help them decorate their own home. It's fun. Sorry for long comment. I adore decorating 🏡❤️ Desi, be still my heart 😁
Visitors to my home always compliment the way my home is decorated and ask for help. I always tell them to surround themselves with things that they love. It pretty comes together with little effort.
I can definitely relate to what you are saying! I am now 71 and the past 5 years I have just decorated to please me and what I enjoy. I grew up poor and always felt inferior because the house I was living in was not that great and my clothes weren’t the best. My parents did the best they could but it didn’t change how I felt inside. Thank you for this video❤️
When I see your background I feel comfortable and at ease 🥰. It gives me peace of mind. It feels like a proper home, with lots of love 💖🥰. This is how I grew up. Not with white walls like all homes have now, but with some colour and paintings and pictures of our family🥰❤🥰. So that what I like to do in my appartment. I like my friends that come here, to feel at ease and that they are comfortable and can pull up their feet in the sofa. That's who I am. I have grown up in an appartment and only lived in a house when I was married. But I am happy with what I have. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home Susan 🥰❤🥰. Lots of love from Anne-Helene 🤗💖
Bonjour my dear. thank you for this video, i think there is so many people decorate in order to impress people ; I don't. I decorate for Me. I use my nice things such as dinnerware, silverware, great beddings, towels, etc. etc. because I deserve it, I like it and for sure I will not just use those nice things for when guests come over. Everyday life, for me, it is a gift and I intend to enjoy my tings. So decorate for me is to make me happy when I am home.
Susan, your apartment always looks so cozy and lovely to me, although I’ve never thought it looked expensive. I mean, I never thought it looked inexpensive either. It doesn’t make me think about money at all because that’s not what it communicates. It communicates good taste and an artful eye, and comfort. I told you once that watching your video reminds me of looking in windows of homes just after dark has fallen, before the curtains are closed, and you see people moving about their homes in lamplight. There is a feeling of safety, well-being, and yes…love. A feeling that all is well.
Oh my goodness, Denise, a friend and I used to drive around and slow at pretty interiors thru those windows we'd catch just after dark...thx for the memory and laugh. And I believe Many of us know Exactly what you mean...and it does convey a settled down, relaxed feeling.
@@denisebrown4933 LOL...you definitely aren't alone in this hobby. Peeper? Conscientious Observers sounds better but it's harder to spell. We might just go with Peeper...LOL
So happy I found your vlog!! I grew up in a nice house, in a nice neighborhood, but when my parents divorced, my sister and I were divorced as well, as my Mom. Off to a small apartment on the “other side of town “ , where for years we made the few nicer things that came with us last and last and last! I loved to decorate with them, dusting, shining, and rearranging. I have continued that love of decor, but as you have discovered, it is so rewarding to do it for your family, your life, and with the decor you love! Finally😘
When I decorate, I look for comfortable pieces. Color is important too. Like you, I don't do matchy matchy. Everything has a story. I remember a couple we met and they invited us to their house. The house was beautiful. All white paint, all new everything. But it wasn't a home. I asked my husband if he thought they were in a witness protection.! A home should be a reflection of you, cozy and warm, welcoming. We've collected different pieces over the years and a theme developes. You learn what works over time. Thank you for sharing & showing your home! Like you, It is beautiful!
I decorate to see things that bring me joy, make me smile, comfort me. My taste has changed as I have become older. I don't decorate to impress as I tried to when I was younger. I try to surround myself with things that feel like a hug. Love to you & Desi
Same here and there is no better feeling in the world that upon returning to your home you have a home that is you and gives back the vibes you need, not other people. God Bless.
Teachers can either make you or break you and you know, really, it's all up to you. For 12 years, many years ago, I was taught by nuns. Some were wonderful, caring women and some were intimidating and callous. Some interactions with them made me like myself and some made me feel I was not good enough. But my lasting self image came from my home life. I was blessed. I had wonderful parents and 8 older sisters. Our house was old and I didn't even have a bedroom to call my own. I had 1 drawer in a dresser for my few clothes. Decorating?? I thought that was just for Christmas trees! After watching this video, however, I do think I'll get some plants and flowers! First time I've been on this site but I love the lady, She has beautiful taste and a great outlook on life. She's a doll!
I so enjoyed your video and the wonderful down to earth heartfelt reveal of yourself. All of the reasons why you love to decorate, and it makes you happy. You are glowing when you talk about your decorating finds and where you found them. I love beautiful things and making a place where guests and family feel special and loved. I had a Home Economics Teacher in the 8th grade that fawned over the girls who had the beautiful fabrics and all of the sewing patterns and all of the needed things to make a garment. I was poor and didn't have any of the needed items. The Teacher brought in a shoebox with some used sewing items and threw them down on my desk without a word, and turned and never said anything to me. I was so embarrassed and I failed the class. I now have a home and I love to decorate and make things beautiful and make my friends and family feel extremely special. Through the years my mind has drifted back to how this Teacher treated me because I was poor and didn't have the advantages of the other girls in the class. But as I have matured over the years I realize this teacher was poorer in her ability to be sensitive to someone less fortunate. She was shallow and probably still is a shallow person. Decorating is fun, interesting and watching your video gives me insight into how I can add a piece like a plant or a mirror to make the room come alive. God Bless and keep glowing.
These are my favorite videos of yours, the home decorating videos. I always find myself looking at your decor even when the video isn’t about that. Your style is very boho, and I love it. I am just discovering this past year during the Covid lockdown that I have been decorating my home to impress my guests instead of choosing things that make me happy. I’m slowly but surely making my home a reflection of myself and my husband, and it feels so much more authentic when I decorate that way.
Susan, I am always encouraged by your sweet spirit and your beautiful presence. I watch all your posts on You Tube.. You are truly a lovely lady with a desire to share with other women, in hopes of making them feel their best. You have been through a lot and have acquired much knowledge from your many challanges, yet your smile reflects you are happy in your skin. I am so happy that you found your pretty apartment. You have done a fantastic job decorating, it's so you. I only wish you lived closer to Georgia so we could visit in person. I am a widow in my late 70's, alone with medical issues and you and Desi bring me such enjoyment. Keep up the good work and God bless you sweet lady.
What I appreciate about you is that ur so down to earth and sincere......YOUR REAL LIKE YOUR AUDIENCE who are all trying to make it out here, thank you 😊 🙏 😘
So happy I found you. Relate to your life, outlook on life, your home and decorating. You inspire me on all aspects of my life. Thank you for being YOU.
When we added on to our house, I got my dream: a library! A wonderful place for all my books, art, and mementos. So many family Christmases, Father's Days, and birthdays, found everyone gravitating there, attracted to the Old World style, and comfort! If newbies ever remark that we are in the 'family room', my husband corrects them, "It's Susan's library!". Even my precious poodle spends her time in there, napping on the cool marble of the hearth in summer, or there by the fire in winter.
Susan, this is a lovely video. I alwys enjoy being invited into your apartment. Today was especially sweet because of your story at the end. I agree with you. Our homes should reflect who we are and make us happy. I think it's interesting that the most sucessful and well know in the design world do as you suggest. The rooms they create are not cookie-cutter versions of the latest trend. Their goal is uniqueness and often they acomplish this by using pieces that have been long loved, Thank you for showing us the way again.
I love your home. I also understand the pain and hurt about where i lived, and nothing you can do about it, I also had that in the past. When I visit people, I am there for them, not to judge anyone because of that. Now I am a widow for 2 years and have done over every room in the house. Everything is different and amazing for this new chapter of my life.
I love to decorate with things that have happy memories for me. I have the white wrought iron bed that I slept in at our cottage when I was a child. I still have the antique dresser I helped my Mom push home from an auction sale a few blocks from my childhood home over 50 years ago now. It still has the crayon stick people I drew inside the bottom drawer. My Grandparents' icebox is in my dining room and I use my Grandmother's treadle sewing machine as a nightstand. Those family members are long gone from my life now but their memories will always be with me.
Hi Susan and Desi!!!!!!!!!! It's so wonderful to see you both!!!!!!!!! Thank you for this great video, it made me feel so feminine and cozy and want loveliness all around us, it reminded me of my precious Mom and how she would make my bed with flowered sheets and subtle ruffles, it felt so safe and I felt like I could let go and snuggle under those covers and that she loved me, some of the best feelings of my life🌸🌺🌸🌺🌸💝🥰😴!!!!!!!! I still have those sheets and pillow cases, I don't want to let go of them, they are so precious and pretty and hold so much of my Mom and Me💞🥰 I miss her beyond measure.......💝 She would LOVE YOU AND DESI AND HOW YOU DECORATE YOUR GORGEOUS HOME, YOU BOTH HAVE SUCH SIMILAR TASTE!!!!!! Thank you again!!!!!!!!
I have always decorated for me. I don’t care about what colors are in style. My home is filled with warm colors and the walls are covered in art, all of which have meaning to me, especially the artwork my kids created when they were young (beautifully framed) and the artwork created by my late dad, mixed in with expensive art bought by my husband and I on vacations.
Susan, your home is decorated exactly to my taste too. I absolutely love it. Your guests must walk in the door and say "ooh" and "aah" immediately. I especially love the way you decorated your living room for summer. Those colors are gorgeous. You don't need to spend a lot of money, you have a special talent, a gift. Most of my things are inherited from my great-grandmother, my grandmother and my mother so I just found ways to use them and cherish the memory of the ladies to whom those items were important, like my great-grandfather's dresser and mirror. I picture him, my great-grandmother, my grandmother and her brother looking in that mirror that I now look into and I am filled with peace. I feel as if they would appreciate the fact that something they valued was cared for and is now valued by others, me, and hopefully my grandchildren. I tweeted out the request to have people vote for Desi. I hope he wins. Both of you deserve the recognition for being so magnificent. Hugs to you both.
You have a very elegant apartment. I have learned a lot from you. I too have always felt like my house needed to be pinterest worthy. No matter how hard I tried I could never pull it altogether. One day I realized that my decor was not working and believe me I purchased items that were not me, sold or donated many items when my husband asked me "why I could never stick to being content with my current decor, and that question prompted me to dig inside myself and find out why I was never satisfied with my purchases and would soon set out on another decor style. And as I was trying to figure myself out it was because it was not me who I was displaying. It was someone else. For years it was that everything had to match and the theme had to flow throughout the house. I am now using my gifts of items I received from my parents passing. As I use them or display them my mind will start to wonder down memory lane and ends with a warm feeling and smile. From that point on I started to purchase items that were vintage and so cozy looking and feeling. That is what I want my guests and family to feel loved, cared for and very welcomed from the harsh world out there.
This was so pleasant. Thank you. For a while, when I visit you, I really forget my actual surroundings and even feel Desi's soft body on my lap. Probably because of your decor. Your place is so inviting and cosy. I certainly decorate for myself and my own happiness and peace.
Desi is number 1 in my opinion. He is such a daper gentleman 🥰 I love black and white photography as well. It seems so elegant. Thank you for your lovely home tour.
My husband used to have relatives that bought big houses but then left rooms void of furniture, like the living room because they only used the den. It makes no sense and I can only think they wanted to impress people with the size of the house. Craziness! Your home is very welcoming Susan. Thanks for the tips.
Your apartment is decorated so beautifully. Everything is so nice and your apartment looks like a tranquil retreat for you. Really like what you have done!
Want you to know I've been watching and enjoying your past videos. You are so beautiful and have such a loving smile. You give such encouraging advice. I'm 73, in a few months will be 74, cant believe it. Been married almost 53 yrs. Love your apartment the way you decorate. . Love from Ohio
Hi Susan and Desi, Your homes always have that cozy, warmness about them. My sister and grandmother always have that touch. It just makes you want to cuddle up wrapped in all the love. Take care.🥰
I like to decorate with anything that has a sweet story attached or even better..reminds me of a special person that I have met along my journey... I like to have things around me that remind me to be grateful for the beautiful human beings I have been blessed to have had in my life...❤️
Love the advice to decorate for yourself ! It’s easy for me to get caught up in the anxiety of what people will think .. especially when I have such unique taste . But who cares ! I had some movers moving my stuff to my house the other day and my everyday objects entertained them immensely! They saw paintings that I painted and it was a conversation starter . As well, all my nerdy stuff was on display which I can get nervous about . But, they seemed to be entertained by all my dolls that I collect . Be proud of your style !
I decorate for me and since moving I reinvent each piece with a newfound purpose. I love what has taken ten X’s 7 in years. Some expensive while others Not. Each items speaks to me and some have spoken in many homes over the years! So it’s not to impress others it’s to please me for I have no shame when I worked so long and hard for pieces - even without meals in order to save up for that set of lamps but mostly they are singles. I love art, furniture, rugs, fixtures, material as in cloth and paint with lots of elbow grease. That’s just the way it is for me and now alone except for 2 Basset Hounds that get lots of love. You were where I needed you today. Thank you so very much for your honesty and deliberations and yourself.
I love your taste and your personality. You seem warm, loving, happy and you're a timeless beauty. All that is reflected in the way your home is decorated. Thank you for your openness in this vid. I can relate to much of what you shared. I've learned a lot from you, too, and I'm a new fan!
Michigan IS a beautiful place to live. As I've told you, I'm a Grand Rapids native...born and raised. I'm transitioning back to my home state from living in Kentucky for almost 16 yrs. We sold our house in Kentucky and as I type this we're living in a townhouse in Bowling Green, KY waiting for the builder to finish renovating our little bungalow in Ionia, MI. My husband found a nice job in his field at Hayworth and we'll be moving to Ionia in Sept...I can't wait to be home in Michigan.
Hello there and Happy 4th of July! Well if you are from Michigan that's good enough for me! I am so excited for you coming home to Ionia!!! Bowling Green is so lovely too...but I have a feeling your heart wants Michigan!!! Best of luck to you and thank you so much for being here! Susan & Dez
When I visit a friend or I’m meeting someone new I find myself looking at all the little objects they decorate with, the art on the walls and the textiles. I enjoy looking at other people’s homes and as mentioned you do get a sense about them. I love the diversity and how so different our homes are. We shouldn’t ever judge but appreciate each other’s interests. Your home reflects your femininity, nostalgia, love of nature and your fond memories. Thank you for sharing this!
I don’t know how but your channel came to my feed. You have such a pleasant and beautiful voice and I feel like I am sitting in your living room having a conversation. You seem to have such inner peace. It’s wonderful. Thank you ☺️
I absolutely agree about the way a woman feels about her bedroom. That is so true for me. I am currently working on getting the feel I’ve always wanted. The small things can make a huge difference in a space and it doesn’t have to be expensive.
Your top is so pretty!! Thank you for the wonderful ideas and sharing your beautiful home!! 🤍 I love to decorate so everyone feels very comfortable, visiting. I love flowers n a country cottage feel...
Home is where the heart is....thank you for sharing your home and your heart. Both are welcoming and bloom with authenticity. May you continue to blossom where you are planted. Such a joy to be with YOU!
I love your use of color and composition. It's a gift and a talent (one I don't share :) ) and your apartment is gorgeous! Everywhere you look is a peaceful space to think or read or create. Thank god you're not on the white on white on beige color scheme bandwagon. To me, that white landscape gives you no sense of joy and nothing for your eye to rest on and spark emotions. Really lovely!!
I want to be surrounded by things that comfort me, when the world is less than friendly. Love how you decorate. It reminds me of my sister, the most comforting person I know.
I think after 6yrs. You are more beautiful and happier than you have ever been!!! I have adapted your rose hip seed oil, carrot oil & neutrogena vitalift for a long while , along with some of my own things and it really is a game changer!!! So thank you for being yourself. That, to my thinking,is the most powerful message we can carry! I am also 66 and try to be the best version of myself that I can be! You have shared so much of your self and are so generous with your experience. I thank you for that!
Bingo!! My favorite kind of video. So much more personal than makeup and brand names. It really gives us a picture of what you're really like. Thank you for being real. That's what it's all about in life, being real.
Your videos bring joy and comfort, you are the sister or friend anyone would be blessed to go shopping with on these fun sprees of yours. The funniest thing is here you are apologizing for looking unkempt or whatever you said because of the heat.. yet you look absolutely radiant and beautiful. Thanks for all you share. God bless you and your precious little Desy!
I have had to live with family since a bad car wreck 4 years ago. I so miss my "stuff" in my home. You inspire me to decorate my room with my trinkets. Hugs to you and Desi!
Your Desi is the cutest little guy! I can never take my eyes off of him when he's in the picture, what a wonderful companion he must be. Your home is so beautiful, I love it when you film in the LR, it's just gorgeous. I wish I could make mine feel as soft and inviting, but I do the best I can. We just rented this a few months ago, a 2 bedroom older manufactured house, everyone who has come in likes it and my favorite compliment I got is about the wrap around porch we have. I went eclectic, granny chic with pottery and plants and wicker and doll chairs as plant stands and greens and creams and lots of color in the plant choices. My young neighbor said it was so "pinterest" and would never have thought all the mixtures of textures and such could work so well. That made my heart glad. And once my youngest son said about my LR in the home we sold a few years ago is that it "always looks nice in here". That made my heart very glad. Your videos also make my heart happy.
Thank you again for another very lovely video . Thrifting ,and decorating “expensive” on a budget is so fun and gratifying. Yes indeed , we decorate to make our house a home and not just to impress our guests . Totally agree with you Susan.
I love your beautiful decorating style .I really dislike the boring UA-cam Farmhouse style. They all look the same .I love your antiqus and lighting is so important. I have quilts , pillows ,pictures ,antiques & Tiffany style lamps . I had to stop shopping bc I have too much. I also love red in my kitchen. It goes well with my Rooster's, chickens and all.I shopped from HSN for years.i need to have more live plants ,like LAVENDER T they say it will keep the bugs& all insect's away. I need to clean the dust now. Desi loves his home too.Your apartment doesn't seem like an apartment bc of your beautiful scenery . So beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story. God bless you Susan.
Hi Lisa where are you located! I need decorating done and I love your attitude😍
@@lisafrederick8870 I’m in Dallas
Agree and the same with clothes that suit your body and taste
It's so refreshing to see someone who's not a 'minimalist' :) I love my stuff and I'm always happy to see someone else who loves their stuff.
I agree.
I always feel like I’ve had a visit with a dear friend 💕
My weeks are full of my work and very little time to stop and appreciate the loveliness around me.
Oh Suzann thank you for your kind words! You are beautiful! Thank you for helping me through my life by being here!!! xxo Susan
The only person I want to impress is me. I decorate with what I love. Your place is lovely.
That’s what she’s saying.
Well said ,my friend
Thank you so much for being here. I will make sure I slow down filming my rooms. I think my insecurity comes through!
Thank you so much Christina for being here! How excited to be decorating your new home...all yours!!!
P o0yhhhi loop
So glad you won your battle with cancer!
I'm from Texas too and I've never heard of a neon Pearl Beer clock. Amazing. What a great compliment from your son!
@@cottagebliss So I’m not a peeper then? 😁 Or if I am, at least I’m not the only one!
@@denisebrown4933 LOL...you definitely aren't alone in this hobby. Peeper? Conscientious Observers sounds better but it's harder to spell. We might just go with Peeper...LOL
@@cottagebliss 🤗 I love it!
This is absolutely beautiful and in my opinion the best compliment you can give someone regarding their home 🙏🏼
Finally😘
Live our lives to please ourselves…Amen! I also enjoy the challenge of decorating on a budget and finding treasures as you do! 💕
God Bless.
Diamond in the ruff

What I appreciate about you is that ur so down to earth and sincere......YOUR REAL LIKE YOUR AUDIENCE who are all trying to make it out here, thank you 😊 🙏 😘
Lovely lady with a kind heart that shows through to how she lives 💖💖💖
Hello Susan, how are you doing?
What a "real" person you are-------------------100% genuine in what you say and what you do.
I,agree everyting you say . Our place we have to enjoy ofcourse with peace . Life is joy.
Susan, your home is beautiful, yourself is beautiful, your smile is beautiful, your spirit is beautiful
Even though I am a minimalist when it comes to home decor, I really appreciate your “you do you” attitude.
Came for home decor advice and walked away with advice for it and life. Thank you!
Oh your home sounds FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! This is what I love so much....we bring all that love into our home, our life and it makes us whole.
I agree 100%. Decorate to make your home YOUR special sanctuary. It may not be everybody's taste but it is mine and I love it.
He is such a daper gentleman 🥰
I love black and white photography as well.
Awww a empty house w many rooms
Your apartment is decorated so beautifully. Everything is so nice and your apartment looks like a tranquil retreat for you. Really like what you have done!
McMansions.
Take care.🥰
Thank you so much for your very kind words Connie..love always from me and Desi
I Do decorate for Me, I Never THINK about what Others will think, at all
I decorate for me and since moving I reinvent each piece with a newfound purpose.
Thank you ☺️
What a beautiful thing to say to me...thank you so much Barbie!!!
You are so right about the mirrors and the plants...thanks for the tip on the bathroom colors..I too have a small bathroom..great idea😎
I love to decorate so everyone feels very comfortable, visiting.
Gosh, I love that little Dezi 🤣 he is just such a little sweetheart. I love all your ideas!
Thank you Linda so much for being rel with me!!!! Happy 4th of July!!! xxoo Susan & Desi
I hope you are doing great Mimi! I am so sorry to hear about your accident!
Splendid video. I love decorating cozy and very feminine love to mix my styles to match my love for shabby.
Your apartment is beautiful! Thanks for sharing your tips for decorating. I just adore Desi, he is so precious.
I really like your sreams and outdoors your backyard is so pretty lush and green
