    I can never get used to all the mix and match of the metric and imperial systems in the US. It’s a 10 mile race yet we are seeing 5K and 10k signs, and then everyone is discussing their paces in terms of miles 🤣 It’s so confusing...

    • @matthewbenton11
      @matthewbenton11 2 роки тому +1

      5ks and 10ks are still raced in the states. They are also very common benchmarks and distances. When it comes to speed rarely do we use km/hr in a vehicle it’s always miles per hour just like our roadsigns and since all our lives has been mins per mile it’s just easier to keep that as a speed metric.

    • @laurainthehaute918

      To add to the fun, we do a lot of 400 and 800 meter repeats, while also having coaches then give mile repeat plans-same coaches. It seems normal to us, yet point is well-taken and a bit of a dope slap😂

    Re: 2 gels, I just happened upon a live BITR Q & A with Meghan Featherstone (runner nutrionist) and she said most people under-fuel, and if you can tolerate it, she recommends fueling every 30 minutes! I come close to that myself, being lucky (so far) in the GI dept. so I appreciated that corroboration. I think individual metabolism is also important to consider.

      @@bighammer3464 Good point in general, but in a shorter race like that, Maurtens are ok w/o water at the same time if those are what he used, and some others are also not very viscous.

      @@levandmarthapolyakin-aaron2183 it’s not necessarily about the type of gel taken. It’s that carbs are taken at all. That’ll sit in your stomach and to process the carbs it takes water. This water is coming from somewhere and it’s water your muscles can’t use. For a 1 hour race most people are fine not taking either as long as they start hydrated. If he was planning on not drinking then it probably would have been better to take a gel right before the start down it with water and off you go.

    Thanks for this beautiful race recap. The details are always welcome-more is more when it comes to your race videos! Re. hotels for Grandma’s. If you can stay at one of the hotels on the Lake right in “Canal Park” we find it’s ideal for race weekend. The finish line is right in front of The Inn on Lake Superior (my favorite) and a few other hotels next to the Inn are also right on the lake. You can walk everywhere you need to go from the Inn. There’s a beautiful Lakewalk ready made for a shakeout run.

    It’s amazing to me that the issue of fueling for a long run is so unsettled. Humans have been running forever and we’re reasonably intelligent yet the optimum fueling strategy is unknown or at least a controversial issue. Personally I’m struggling to solve the carb or keto riddle for myself. Just seems like there should be some hard science out there to guide the search.

    • @fastinradfordable
      @fastinradfordable 2 роки тому

      It’s not a riddle.
      Your body is equipped to run for hours without food.
      Your body can do 30 days without food.
      One person went an entire year on only multi Vitamins.
      Saying u need food during a run is like saying all humans need 3 big meals a day.
      It’s a straight lie.
      I mean. We ran after our prey.
      How the freak are our body’s actually NEEDING food in an hour run.
      As much as people buy into modern consumerism eating sugar until they get diabetes.
      It’s an industry.
      Selling you gels.
      But human body.
      Moving.
      Is figured out.
      If you think a fueling issue is present because somebody wants to sell you something.

    Suggestions .................... 1) Find a course that suits your run strengths 2) choose one that usually has weather that agrees most with your body. 3) Maybe do this one with a go pro attached to your cap and ditch the selfie stick and concentrate 100% on the goal (do this one for you not the audience.....but still get coverage with the cap based go pro). SUB 3!! 👍🦾🏃❤
