It's actually wild how much this lore book ties together Destiny's story threads since the beginning. Shows where the game is headed in how our timeline differs to the dark one. Most excited I've been for Destiny's story ever.

Exactly. I believe most events in Elsie's timeline may actually play out. But, the future we saw of our final death in the Corridors of Time will be the stopping point.

I prefer the Clovis Bray stuff that came out with the collector’s edition stuff more. As well as Unveiling. This stuff is definitely quite good though.
God I love Future Trunks esque storylines. It's always refreshing to see a side of a story where our hero didn't win. So we can see even brighter lights shine in the blackest of nights
Honestly I hope we get to see this timeline with our own eyes, sort of like the infinite forest showed the future, though not in the forest. I really want to explore this type of place, that and fighting dark guardians sounds like it could be fun.

I forget her name, when she reappears before the chest spawns in, she says "I have seen the end, we all will fail." Now I don't know if this is new or not, because that is the first time I have ever heard that from her.

We weren't the only factor that changed this current timeline, it was the exo stranger coming to us and guiding us that made the cloak and dagger missions successful in the black garden. Elsie going back is likely the main reason that this timeline is different, not us.
Definitely agree that the voice modulation was a great touch with Elsie's parts. Makes it very easy to distinguish who's talking, extremely helpful, Byf. Please do more of that in the future. It makes me much easier to listen to these videos while playing Destiny like I usually do. I can keep full track of what's going on even in the middle of a GM nightfall, that's how good it is.

Even though Destiny 2 failed from release date to now, both D1/D2 will forever be my #1 game of all time with mw2 right behind it. Idk man it’s just something about destiny1/2 that just makes it so unique and one of a kind. Savathun casually ripping Zavala's leg off shows just how powerful Hive gods are. After all, guardians are by no means, weak. Hell we're strong enough to defeat a hive god ourselves. The fact that Savathun was able to do that to Zavala just shows that Hive gods are not to be trifled with.

I remember Elsie mentioning dark Guardians once in game, and that our Guardian was no exception. In Elsie’s timeline, we were present, but fell all the same.
My one issue with us being the catalyst of change is that I remember when going through the story for beyond light, I remember Elsie slowly opening up about this not being her timeline and talking about the others and she told us we also fell to the darkness in the other timelines just like the other guardians.
I have my doubts about Eris' state of corruption. In our timeline, she doesn't seem corrupted. But if you read the "Regarding Stasis" lorebook (I hope I'm getting that name right), she is EXTREMELY aggressive. She talks about taking revenge on all enemies of the City, burning them down to dust and stomping them beneath her feet. I wonder if she will end up being the true villain of the Witch Queen expansion.
I have a theory: The Darkness KNOWS Elsie Bray is watching it through timelines. After all... It IS paracausal. If the Vex can see through time, so can the Darkness. I think it's toying with Elsie and showing her a brighter possibility that we can win since she's more actively involved in our timeline than any other. Just when we think we've become the apex predators of space and time, Lightfall drops... The Darkness wins. Guardians are shown that as strong as we are, the Darkness still had control. A grim fate for sure, but where's the tension if we never lose?
The only problem with this theory is one that, much like the light and dark, is outside of the game's universe: bungie wants more money. How are they gonna get people to buy more silver if their guardians are all dead?

I think that you are right, but we will not truly lose, similar to what happened during the red war, but with far more dire circumstances. As a matter of fact, maybe we will lose the traveler, but discover that we have light in each of us and learn to use that and become self reliant as a species, not forced to rely on other beings. And then we will maybe learn a lesson and abandon stasis.

Man there is just so much for me to say right now. Never has a story in destiny moved me so much it's a crazy feeling for some reason. I was able to feel my jaw drop and smile and frown as I was picturing the story in my head when you were reading. This is the most interested I've ever been when it comes to destiny lore for me, some of these parts were just insane to me like finding the drifters body in the crypt and eris being the greater enemy, along with zavala being so weak and hopeless. This is in my opinion the greatest lore card in destiny 2 I'm so pumped for part 2!

Elsie’s mission to save humanity and right the future reminds me of Infinity War. Out of the millions of timelines, there may only be one where we win against the inevitable Darkness.
This book really shows just how much of an influence the stranger has had on our timeline really brings into perspective the meaning behind what we’ve been doing since the launch of D1 , DT : the black heart corrupts guardians and Eris morn OT : we kill the heart before it can corrupts guardians and eris morn is consoled on her powers. I’m still a bit iffy on eris morn though that smile she gave at the end of shadow keep still has me questioning what’s she’s planning
I always saw it as removing all heat from whatever object it hits, make all its molecules stop moving and reach absolute zero. In real life this would be impossible since it would be absorbing heat from its surroundings, but since the darkness is paracausal it can break the rules. Since the darkness represents entropy, it seems fitting that its power mimics the heat death of the universe

Lorebooks like this are what keep me utterly enthralled and enamoured by destiny despite all the problems with the game. The writing and story is so damn compelling. I love this game. I don’t think this lore book was describing a timeline she visited. I think it’s describing the one she came from originally. But that’s just what I got from it.

I remember people bringing up this last bit of the end screen from Marathon Infinity almost as soon as the name "Destiny" was announced for Bungie's next game. It is crazy how that line from MI only continues to be more relevant to Destiny the more time goes on...
Elsie's story is tragic all the way through. I poked around in her yurt and looked at the pictures she had stuck on the wall over her bed. Drawings and doodlings and stuff that she must have carried with her through her travels through time so she could stick them up over her bed and remember when times were better a very long time ago. Imagine setting up your survival tent and making a point to hang pictures like that.
Don’t know if anyone else noticed but I’m LOVING the slight robot effect for when you speak as Elsie. Hope you do this for any lore where Exo’s speak in future
Since it is implied that Elsie has been in a bunch of timelines besides ours and this dark one, I wonder where things went wrong in other ones. was it always the same? Were there any where we were there to destroyed the Heart of the Black Garden, but things still went downhill? She says at one point that "(you) were no different" in a timeline where most guardians were corrupted.
The question is, where is Cayde in this timeline? If we assume that the events of Forsaken didn't play out the same way, due to the many variables that have changed in the timeline, where is he? How did he die? We know Forsaken didn't happen, for a couple of reasons. One; it's a safe bet to say that the Dark Timeline Guardian isn't the legend that we are. Since we never destroyed the Black Heart, we probably didn't kill Crota, meaning Oryx didn't come to Sol - ergo, we're probably just a normal Guardian in this universe. Since Oryx never pulled up to Sol and never handed the Awoken's asses to them, Uldren and Mara would still be in the Reef, so no Scorn and no Prison of Elders breakout, since Variks probably wouldn't abandon his Warden duties with the Queen still around. So, where is Cayde? If he died in the Bombardment, along with Ikora, why weren't Ana and Elsie looking for him as well? Did he die before the Bombardment? Who knows?

We weren't the only factor that changed this current timeline, it was the exo stranger coming to us and guiding us that made the cloak and dagger missions successful in the black garden. Elsie going back is likely the main reason that this timeline is different, not us.
Definitely agree that the voice modulation was a great touch with Elsie's parts. Makes it very easy to distinguish who's talking, extremely helpful, Byf.
Please do more of that in the future. It makes me much easier to listen to these videos while playing Destiny like I usually do. I can keep full track of what's going on even in the middle of a GM nightfall, that's how good it is.

Even though Destiny 2 failed from release date to now, both D1/D2 will forever be my #1 game of all time with mw2 right behind it. Idk man it’s just something about destiny1/2 that just makes it so unique and one of a kind. To the lore, gameplay, etc.I remember being in 8th grade playing VOG and now I’m 20 playing on Utopia (even though it flopped). But man this game will forever be my favorite game of all time. Savathun casually ripping Zavala's leg off shows just how powerful Hive gods are. After all, guardians are by no means, weak. Hell we're strong enough to defeat a hive god ourselves. The fact that Savathun was able to do that to Zavala just shows that Hive gods are not to be trifled with.
Well but they aren’t truly gods. Think about it. Gods can’t truly die and stay dead. We haven’t seen oryx since king fall, nor any mention of him being back to life. Period
@@MothFable True, but we did kill him in his Throne World, which is the place where Hive gods are their most powerful and most vulnerable. The only way to completely kill a hive god, is to do in their throne world.
Exactly. The fact they can be permanently killed means they are very powerful, not gods, this is good and gives us hope because it means we can fight the hive, no matter how powerful they seem.

This is by far my favorite lore piece. Even if it is cutscenes I want to see all of this happen in game.

I remember Elsie mentioning dark Guardians once in game, and that our Guardian was no exception. In Elsie’s timeline, we were present, but fell all the same.

My one issue with us being the catalyst of change is that I remember when going through the story for beyond light, I remember Elsie slowly opening up about this not being her timeline and talking about the others and she told us we also fell to the darkness in the other timelines just like the other guardians.

I have my doubts about Eris' state of corruption. In our timeline, she doesn't seem corrupted. But if you read the "Regarding Stasis" lorebook (I hope I'm getting that name right), she is EXTREMELY aggressive. She talks about taking revenge on all enemies of the City, burning them down to dust and stomping them beneath her feet.
I wonder if she will end up being the true villain of the Witch Queen expansion.
I have a theory:
The Darkness KNOWS Elsie Bray is watching it through timelines. After all... It IS paracausal. If the Vex can see through time, so can the Darkness.
I think it's toying with Elsie and showing her a brighter possibility that we can win since she's more actively involved in our timeline than any other.
Just when we think we've become the apex predators of space and time, Lightfall drops... The Darkness wins. Guardians are shown that as strong as we are, the Darkness still had control.
A grim fate for sure, but where's the tension if we never lose?
The only problem with this theory is one that, much like the light and dark, is outside of the game's universe: bungie wants more money. How are they gonna get people to buy more silver if their guardians are all dead?
But guardians are paracasual so even if darkness can read "time" its not ultimately written.
@@griqs that is true but it can manipulate time just as good, if not better, than we can. It has many millennia of practice and even taught the Vex how to do it. Who's to say it's incapable of pulling a fast one on us?

I think that you are right, but we will not truly lose, similar to what happened during the red war, but with far more dire circumstances. As a matter of fact, maybe we will lose the traveler, but discover that we have light in each of us and learn to use that and become self reliant as a species, not forced to rely on other beings. And then we will maybe learn a lesson and abandon stasis.

Man there is just so much for me to say right now. Never has a story in destiny moved me so much it's a crazy feeling for some reason. I was able to feel my jaw drop and smile and frown as I was picturing the story in my head when you were reading. This is the most interested I've ever been when it comes to destiny lore for me, some of these parts were just insane to me like finding the drifters body in the crypt and eris being the greater enemy, along with zavala being so weak and hopeless. This is in my opinion the greatest lore card in destiny 2 I'm so pumped for part 2!

Elsie’s mission to save humanity and right the future reminds me of Infinity War. Out of the millions of timelines, there may only be one where we win against the inevitable Darkness.

This book really shows just how much of an influence the stranger has had on our timeline really brings into perspective the meaning behind what we’ve been doing since the launch of D1 , DT : the black heart corrupts guardians and Eris morn OT : we kill the heart before it can corrupts guardians and eris morn is consoled on her powers. I’m still a bit iffy on eris morn though that smile she gave at the end of shadow keep still has me questioning what’s she’s planning
I’ve been waiting for this one. This future seems like one of those what if’s in comics.

Stasis is the opposite of entropy. It builds perfect crystal formations. Being trapped in stasis feels like being stuck in a non moving void.
I always saw it as removing all heat from whatever object it hits, make all its molecules stop moving and reach absolute zero. In real life this would be impossible since it would be absorbing heat from its surroundings, but since the darkness is paracausal it can break the rules. Since the darkness represents entropy, it seems fitting that its power mimics the heat death of the universe

Lorebooks like this are what keep me utterly enthralled and enamoured by destiny despite all the problems with the game. The writing and story is so damn compelling. I love this game. Also, I absolutely love the content Byf, you are incredible at story telling as always. Know that the effort you put into narrating the dialogue as different characters does not go unnoticed.

I remember people bringing up this last bit of the end screen from Marathon Infinity almost as soon as the name "Destiny" was announced for Bungie's next game. It is crazy how that line from MI only continues to be more relevant to Destiny the more time goes on...
I like how byf runs his voice thru a robotic digital filter whenever he says Elsie's lines.

Elsie's story is tragic all the way through. I poked around in her yurt and looked at the pictures she had stuck on the wall over her bed. Drawings and doodlings and stuff that she must have carried with her through her travels through time so she could stick them up over her bed and remember when times were better a very long time ago. Imagine setting up your survival tent and making a point to hang pictures like that.
It's crayon. The anomaly in our timeline that separates us from the other dark ones is C R A Y O N .

Since it is implied that Elsie has been in a bunch of timelines besides ours and this dark one, I wonder where things went wrong in other ones. was it always the same? Were there any where we were there to destroyed the Heart of the Black Garden, but things still went downhill? She says at one point that "(you) were no different" in a timeline where most guardians were corrupted.

The question is, where is Cayde in this timeline?
If we assume that the events of Forsaken didn't play out the same way, due to the many variables that have changed in the timeline, where is he? How did he die?
We know Forsaken didn't happen, for a couple of reasons. One; it's a safe bet to say that the Dark Timeline Guardian isn't the legend that we are. Since we never destroyed the Black Heart, we probably didn't kill Crota, meaning Oryx didn't come to Sol - ergo, we're probably just a normal Guardian in this universe.
Since Oryx never pulled up to Sol and never handed the Awoken's asses to them, Uldren and Mara would still be in the Reef, so no Scorn and no Prison of Elders breakout, since Variks probably wouldn't abandon his Warden duties with the Queen still around.
So, where is Cayde? If he died in the Bombardment, along with Ikora, why weren't Ana and Elsie looking for him as well?
