I'm surprised some big games still don't even support HDR - Dying Light 2 comes to mind. Fortunately in Windows 11 "Auto HDR" makes the scenes pop a bit more on my LG C8 OLED. Don't get me starting on Forza Horizon 5's "White taillights at night" too.. seems game devs rarely test HDR modes properly.

Very annoying that it doesn't follow the PS5's system HDR settings. It's a Sony studio even, it couldn't have been that hard to talk internally to figure it out. Which FURTHER proves its not a PS5 game LOL hard!! Wanna laugh at PS4 users some more now? =D No freaking way a PS5 game that suppose to be "next gen lolz" isnt gonna follow those HDR standards if it WAS a next gen game? Those settings would be out of the box if HFW was with FULL support, gtfo of here PS5 early birds.Just because you paid 7867678$ from scalpers for a dated system compared to PC doesnt mean you are entitled to ANYTHING.The only game I know for a FACT that is a PS5 game from the ground up right now is Pragmata (2023),why I know this? Because the devs already said that it CANNOT be made on the PS4 or ported to it."Capcom" a Japanese company making it btw..
Then Elden Ring all of a sudden has "performance issues" with "FRAMES",gee I wonder why? LMFAO It wouldnt be because,I dunno,ITS ALSO ON THE DAMN PS4 STILL?!
Those that are living under a rock, the PS4s in Japan stop production already, the USA is STILL in production with PS4s and prices going up and is STILL making games with the PS5/PS4 attachment.When/if that stops is only when youll see PS5 games switch to the HDR standards of development and not sliders that do not work with the SSD speeds of these games.
Hell theres MANY people that dont know the reason why PS4 users have texture pop ins is due to the fact that HDDs cannot keep up with games made after 2017 and just having an SSD for your PS4 gets rid of them.

When I bought my oled tv and my Ps5 and Series X, I listened to his advice with intentions. And I quit for a while. You have to change everything all the time, HGIG activated, after it is deactivated, after that you have to change it to put it back on the next game.
Frankly I leave in DTM and I adjust according to my tastes, it takes 2 minutes per game and it's very good like that

The worst thing is, they aren't even trying...
They're handed a solution, like the HGIG console level HDR adjustments, allowing us to set Peak-brightness, Max tonemap luminanse, and minimum luminanse.
This is all we need to perfectly calibrate our TV, and have the console work it's magic.
But of the 60 games I have installed on my PS5, only a very few games utilize the PS5 HDR adjustment.
The rest (those with in-game hdr settings) simply bypass what you have calibrated in the HGIG HDR calibration.
And you're left with sub-par in-game stupid hdr setup, that mostly can't be calibrated to a satisfying level.

this is the biggest problem which is that hdr itself isn't a standard but just a bunch of very rough approximate guidelines that are often times debated and to a certain extent subject to interpretation. The whole thing is one big bad joke and most likely this way on purpose to confuse the average non technical consumer into buying a more expensive TV set them otherwise they would need.

I got it calibrated going back and forth (what works for my tv is -2, -5, -3) but see I might want to reduce the highlights a bit more. And while -5 for shadows works great during the day (in game), nights can get pretty dark. However the shimmering is giving me headaches, so I'm playing on an old 1080p projector now in SDR, max 50 nits brightness. (Cinema level). And it's gorgeous on that, no eye strain reading the small fonts either at 92" screen. Much less shimmering down sampled to 1080p.
4K HDR, it's a mess. I had to set data transfer rate to -2 as well since the screen kept randomly blacking out, HDMI not keeping up. 2160p60 4:2:0 is max that it can handle without drops. My projector is 4:4:4 RGB 1080p, same color resolution as 2160p 4:2:0, but much less contrast, no headaches. It has a waveform analysis pop up build in as well, so much easier to calibrate it that way. On the TV it remains guess work :/

Interesting. When I first started the game and started messing with settings.. I had hgig.. - 2 Brightness and - 3 highlights. But I've been using DTM off - 1 brightness and + 6 highlights and I think I like that better. Either way the game looks really good and I'm off to try Vincent's settings. ✌🏻

Using +2, -8 and 0 on my c1 OLED. However I play it more my q90t qled. The hdr impact is just on another level on the qled. Like whenever I go from the OLED to qled, I'm gobsmacked on how better it looks on the qled. OLED has its moments though where it looks better

@@manuel0578 fun fact, look it up. Even on an OLED, even though there is no blooming, our eyes make it look like there is. I see it a lot on my OLED. Mainly just during loading screens where everything is black and you have a white symbol. Same can be said with a qled. Blooming is only visible in that same screen. Once you play regular content, you don't notice it at all

This type of video is nice and all, it'll send me in the right direction. But it would be even BETTER to not assume that EVERYONE has an OLED and go over which settings to use for those of us with higher brightness displays. With that monitor it would obviously be easy enough to be like "Use these settings for a 700 nit OLED, and use these settings for a 1,500 nit LCD."

    • @SonGokuuuuuuu
      @SonGokuuuuuuu 2 роки тому +4

Then find another video of a guy covering non OLED? Vincent already puts in a lot of work, he covers true next generation gaming experiences, that’s what the content is tailored for and it makes sense. He doesn’t have to assume anything, it’s just that you aren’t his priority. UA-cam is endless, you stumbled on a video that isn’t what you’re looking for so move onto the next. The last thing this wholesome channel needs is entitled whiners like you in the comments.

I have the Acer X27 which is an HDR10 mini led monitor which peaks out at around 1200 nits and I don't think these settings work too well for my setup unfortunately. There actually seems to be very little visual difference with these settings and then turning off HDR completely in-game. Even setting HDR brightness to the default setting seems too low to me and I can increase it all the way to 10 and increase shadows to 3 and it looks much better imo. Ofc, I'm just playing it by eye and not using any measurement tools so it would be cool to see you calibrate HDR settings on several other screens rather than just the LG oled when do doing these types of videos. Regardless, I still learned a lot from this video as always so thank you for your hard work!

Can concur. If using DTM, the default sliders/settings work best while DTM does its job. No fiddling needed really (same goes with other games). But I can see those who want the most "accurate" picture settings following Vincent's settings.

I'm curious if Vincent has made videos over HDR on Windows 10/11. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of content touching over that. And I don't mean covering HDR monitors, but still using TV's like his LG and showing HDR on there. I'm currently using a Samsung Q80R TV to play some PC games in HDR and I noticed some games look different on PC and console regarding HDR.

But man do I wish the game companies would do a better job of standardising this stuff. The fact we have to calibrate settings for both the game and our TVs on a game by game basis is just crazy… HDR gaming will never become a mainstream thing if this keeps up.
