This type of video is nice and all, it'll send me in the right direction. But it would be even BETTER to not assume that EVERYONE has an OLED and go over which settings to use for those of us with higher brightness displays. With that monitor it would obviously be easy enough to be like "Use these settings for a 700 nit OLED, and use these settings for a 1,500 nit LCD."

I have the Acer X27 which is an HDR10 mini led monitor which peaks out at around 1200 nits and I don't think these settings work too well for my setup unfortunately. There actually seems to be very little visual difference with these settings and then turning off HDR completely in-game. Even setting HDR brightness to the default setting seems too low to me and I can increase it all the way to 10 and increase shadows to 3 and it looks much better imo. Ofc, I'm just playing it by eye and not using any measurement tools so it would be cool to see you calibrate HDR settings on several other screens rather than just the LG oled when do doing these types of videos. @@wingman-1977 Bullshit. You don't NEED to do any of this. You are taking advice from a professional calibrator that explains this stuff for you. If it wasn't for Vincent you wouldn't even know.
Here is the summary ;)
HDR Settings in the game:
Brightness: -2
Highlights: -8
Is it settings for performance mode or resolution mode?
As a lot of people have said at this point, I'd also love to see these videos for every big release. I love the comfort of being told, "these are the best HDR settings for ___". If you could do an Elden Ring one that would be amazing, also Digital Foundry are fantastic but don't dive into HDR in such detail.
Gaming Tech Channel already gave us this information. But its still nice that Vincent came to the same conclusions.
Gaming tech sayd Highlights 10+😂
Great video! As others have stated, you should absolutely consider doing more HDR gameplay videos. Gaming industry is huge, I believe your channel can reach higher highs. Love you sense of humor!
Thank you Vincent! Please keep covering these big releases! You are doing valuable work and providing rare information to fans all over the world. Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much! I need this for the next god of war, was never able to properly tune the HDR in the first one and found myself constantly changing it back and forth
My best hdr settings on my Sony Bravia is what my eyes see not what some fancy machine sees.
Used these settings on my Sony XH90 and the game looks much better.
What about the settings for x900h?
This. Would like to know the best settings
honestly
Sony just released a new update for the xh90 ... Firmware v6.1576 ... it shall fix the VRR compabilty... would love to see a test on your channel
Thank you man, I think every major game developer must consult to you before releasing their game.
Yes! Thank you. I noticed harsh overblown highlights as well( even producing eye strain/headache). I had brightness at -3 and highlights -3, originally. It still seems to bright/harsh I’ll try these out!
Is this video still valid with recent updates to the game? And would these settings still be applicable to an LED display? I'm using the Sony X90J.
No, they're not valid as the game uses the PS5 system calibrations settings now. All you change now is the highlight settings. You want to go to 5 or above.
@@mrchiledonut Thanks for the input!
Curious of what a good setting would be for the A90J, and wonder if you HDR calibration method has any effects on this game, and then which sliders to tinker with
This. For example, what should HDR Tone Mapping be set to on the Sony? Gradation Preferred, or Off?
@@Roboto82 i have X90J and I find it looks better off
Look at the sun turn your tone mapping setting on and change between the 2 will be the best way to know what you prefer I found with it on it made the sun less bright
I'm using the -2 brightness and -6 highlights setting and the game looks almost perfect now
83" A90J AND FW = PARADISE
Just turn on Dynamic Tone Mapping and forget trying to find the best picture because it's impossible.
TURN ON...COLOR SPACE...ADOBE RGB...WOW HUGE DIFFERENT
Interesting. When I first started the game and started messing with settings.. I had hgig.. - 2 Brightness and - 3 highlights. But I've been using DTM off - 1 brightness and + 6 highlights and I think I like that better. Either way the game looks really good and I'm off to try Vincent's settings. ✌🏻
Thanks so much ive been trying to get the right setting for a while now!! love the content and cannot wait for more!
I need one of these videos for Destiny 2’s new HDR update.
Destiny HDR Is broken
Please inform on what settings one should have form QLED!!! I have a Q95T and my eyes hurt after playing the game for just a short time! I have calibrated the TV using your video on samsung QLEDs but I have no idea what to do with the settings in the game! Plese help!!!!
You promised this video, an you've delivered, thank you for the great content! 👍
Same thing for the Sony X900H?
The game just added actual HGIG support so this video could use an update
Thank you Vincent! Taking my time and enjoying the game, always appreciate your knowledge to improve the visuals!
Thumps up from Germany!!! Best Channel for Settings!!!
I find
-2 brightness
0 shadow
+8 highlights look great to me the environment looks natural the sky is bright and colourful makes the world pop and haven't lost any detail in the clouds
Using +2, -8 and 0 on my c1 OLED. However I play it more my q90t qled. The hdr impact is just on another level on the qled. Like whenever I go from the OLED to qled, I'm gobsmacked on how better it looks on the qled. OLED has its moments though where it looks better
Meh, I just can’t deal with FALD halo effect.
@@manuel0578 fun fact, look it up. Even on an OLED, even though there is no blooming, our eyes make it look like there is. I see it a lot on my OLED. Mainly just during loading screens where everything is black and you have a white symbol. Same can be said with a qled. Blooming is only visible in that same screen. Once you play regular content, you don't notice it at all
@@sweedishpie360 Turn off the lights.
Go to that far left area of the map with beaches. Look at the sand and building textures there. I dialed the dynamic range settings until you could see the differences in shades in the sand in bright sunlight as best I could.
Cheers Vincent! People like you help a lot much appreciated! Wish it just had dolby vision on ps5!
Then find another video of a guy covering non OLED? Vincent already puts in a lot of work, he covers true next generation gaming experiences, that’s what the content is tailored for and it makes sense. He doesn’t have to assume anything, it’s just that you aren’t his priority. UA-cam is endless, you stumbled on a video that isn’t what you’re looking for so move onto the next. The last thing this wholesome channel needs is entitled whiners like you in the comments.
My TV (LG B8) does not have HGIG. I wonder if I should increase the highlights to mitigate the rolloff, but otherwise use the same settings.
Regardless, I still learned a lot from this video as always so thank you for your hard work!
I found you when I bought lg c1 and you have been great since!
On "PS5 I always my settings on resolution mode I have Horizon Forbidden West in favor. And never use hdr. Now my graphics are crisp. I did that day . My settings are to my liking. I also took my highlights all the way to the left. Good video 👍
Amazing to see your thoughts on videogame settings. I hope you keep talking about some titles here and there once in a while.
With 1.18 patch I have seen this settings for TVs using DTM: 0/0/+10
What's your opinion Teoh? Maybe you could do an update of the settings for this game.
Thank you!
I miss the old times when you just started the game and had no video settings to adjust on consoles.
What is the HDR setup for SONY A90J?
Default settings & performance mode on lg cx have been good for me with dynamic tone mapping on but I’ll watch this properly later.
Can concur. If using DTM, the default sliders/settings work best while DTM does its job. No fiddling needed really (same goes with other games). But I can see those who want the most "accurate" picture settings following Vincent's settings.
Awesome, I always find brightness settings confusing. Thank You Vincent!
Thank you for this video. Turning sharpness off on my lg oled c9 made the picture more clear. I also have a sony vpl-vw270es protector wich also has a sharpness setting. Does this advice also apply to projectors all well ?
I'm curious if Vincent has made videos over HDR on Windows 10/11. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of content touching over that. And I don't mean covering HDR monitors, but still using TV's like his LG and showing HDR on there. I'm currently using a Samsung Q80R TV to play some PC games in HDR and I noticed some games look different on PC and console regarding HDR.
Holysht you did game setting now? Im 100% supporting this, gran turismo 7 is close, elden ring also need some love the game is darker i don't know best setting for x90j
hey for elden ring I'm using 6 brightness and 6 saturation, the other setting at default
On horizon I'm using -1 brightness and -8 highlights.
I have the same TV as you
And here I am, with no OLED TV (just LCD), no PS5, and don't even own the game (but will in the future), yet still curious if those settings will work for me. 😅
I've left mine on resolution mode and turned game mode off it looks amazing ive got the 4k picture with more than 30fps no screen tear at all. But varl is still useless.
Uh. You don't want to turn game mode off...
Is it the same recommendations for the TCL R635? I seem to have an issue getting the HDR right.
Can’t thank you enough Vincent for providing these videos, you really are one of the only people out there talking about this stuff who actually knows what he’s on about.
But man do I wish the game companies would do a better job of standardising this stuff. The fact we have to calibrate settings for both the game and our TVs on a game by game basis is just crazy… HDR gaming will never become a mainstream thing if this keeps up.
Yeah for real. With SDR all you had to worry about was just one brightness setting for each game.
What about the Sony x90j settings you forgot to do an update on it when you said you were bro and the vrr is not on it yet
Vincent, wich mode do you think Is Better , 30 or 60 FPS ( resolution vs performance)?
This channel and Gaming Tech are important channels
Fanastic work! Calibrating HDR is such a pain in the arse for your average boy like me -- these insights are so useful!
Are these settings still good in March 2023 after all the patches the developer may have applied to the game?
What should I adjust the sliders to for a 2018 Samsung Q6F?
Hello, to clean the TV, what should we do? Wipe with a dry cloth or spray so that the panel is not damaged, and clean it every once in a while for dust
Dry lint free cloth, or apply distilled water to a lint free cloth. Don't spray anything onto the screen.
Thank god playing the game was burning my eyes and couldn't played for more than 30 min at a time and didn't know why.
This is a good find and analysis. Did you send in a support reporting form regarding this?
hi Vincent, anything to consider for a sony AF9 with DTM always on? many thanks
I've decided to give the game another go since they've fixed the shimmering and its really dark now, it was fine before the update. The picture looks off not matter what i do.
Thank you so much! Any chance you could make a video about the ghosting around Aloy’s face during conversations on LG OLEDs?
I have the new LG OLED tv ...what settings would you say are best for performance mode please?
I appreciate your help
Honestly I Love your videos!!! I really appreciate everything you do!!! Thank You!!! Also Gran Turimso is coming out soon!!! Would love a HDR video on that too
Awesome video Vincent! Hopefully more videos like this in the future! I love me some games.
What is the best setting for LG C1 HDR, Brightness,Shadows and Highlights ?
I would appreciate also mentioning the best settings for folks that do not have HGIG like me with my 77" LG C8.
Vincent! I own samsung qn95a and still don't know how tu setup sliders in this game.
Anyone else falls asleep midway through these videos. The monotone is just 💤💤💤
Video starta at 5:40
I would like to see more in depth videos on settings regarding these new titles that come out on either ps5 or xbox they are very interesting thanks Vincent
-2 Brightness and -8 on highlights, got it thanks Vincent!
So much knowledge. So much generous sharing. Thank you… so much.
What settings would you recommend for a QN90A?
Is this review for a regular HDMI 2.1 cable? My Fiber optic HDMI 2.1 doesn't have these issues
I have a LG 65“ G1…should I use the same settings? I think G1 is a little bit brighter than C1?
Vincent makes a video teaching how to calibrate the rdr2 with the hdr enabled on the lg c1 oled to get the best possible image.
Good morning Vincent. Will you be looking into Gran Turismo next week? With Polyphony Digitals obsession with visual fidelity and their push for life like visuals, I’m hoping they do their HDR implementation better.
