My Coaching Channel: @jumpersuniversity
Dude, one of the best videos I've seen covering all basics of the long jump! Major props! Thanks and God Bless.
Hey thanks man I appreciate it!
My coach threw me in long jump mid season and I haven’t practiced in 8 months. Had watch a vid real quick 😅
Hey good luck! I will be posting other coaching videos on my other channel @JumpersUniversity
That was cool to see different starting styles from different athletes
Ya it’s a personal preference. For some it’s mental and for others getting a dynamic start vs a static start can help with their accumulated speed but sometimes at the sacrifice of takeoff board accuracy.
Very well explained ! I showed it to my 7 th graders thanks.
Major props Coach John!!!
i have been watching so many videos and this has everything i need thank you so much
Check out my other @jumpersuniversity channel which is more coaching specific
Had NO idea how technical this was. I could never ever.
I had no idea that there was a range in take off steps based on skill level! That’s awesome
Wow this is awesome thanks for this info
Bro that’s an awesome instructional fundamental video. Keep it up coach!
Thank you so much. I can’t wait to add some more!
@@JumpersJunction I just started do long jump, and is 8.83 feet jump normal for a 13 year old. im in the middle of hitting my puberty. But that video is very useful for me.
Had my first long jump practice today and my meets tomorrow 😭
im cooked
lol sameeee
Great video! I have a 1 year project as a long jumper. Very informative.
Nice video. I do, however, have a little pushback on your statement "there is no best flight technique." I think history has shown that the best jumps have come from hitchkick jumpers. But aside from that, the hitchkick is the most natural of all those techniques because people naturally rotate their arms and legs when they are in freefall.
But again, thank you for the time and energy you put into this because we have far too many developmental coaches who preach "just run and jump" and its hurting our event and our athletes.
Adriel, I really appreciate your comment! Soo true about the “just run and jump” lol.
As far as the “best flight technique” - you’re spot on about the hitch-kick and maybe I should of worded it slight different. But I didn’t want to go that route in the video because I work with alot of younger athletes and some are just predispositioned to certain techniques and until they reach a certain level of competence and skill, I don’t want them to all go out and try to learn the hitch kick until they have some of the fundamentals down.
Thank you for watching and I appreciate the pushback!
Feel free to pushback on that too though because that’s just my opinion based on my experience but it’s definitely not the right way….it’s just my way. That’s what’s cool about being a athlete turned coach is “my way” is based on my experience right, things I’ve done and things I’ve learned and been taught, but there are alot of ways and it’s really awesome when we can come together and chat about it!
This is an absolutely excellent video. Thank you so much! So clear. So specific. I'll be sharing w my middle school track team. (Wish there were more pro women highlighted tho....)
Glad you enjoyed it! I tried to find the most relevant for the specific topic but I did do an entire video on the history of women long jumping and is one of my favorite videos i have made.

I know that you said that it doesn't matter about which form you use, but does it matter on how you do that form? Like, are there specific steps you have to go through in the air or can you just wing it?
Yes there are specific steps on how to do each.
Il try and do a video on it. Great question.
Give me safety measur that should be observed when participating in leng jump
Triple jump pasic pls
Will Do!
Incredible.can you put it in form of cartoons 😊❤
1:59 what was that noise in the background?
Sir
How to practice for flying
I'm practicing from one month but 12ft is distance.

Has your perspective changed since your time in Dallas?
Hey man! Ya it has actually. The “Bridging” concept on the penultimate step was a really good way to communicate how it should be performed and I always used 100words to illustrate it whereas that was just so clear that it simplified things tremendously.
Also, I got to really soak in that there are so many coaches out there that know way more than me and really got me pumped up to see how much more I still have to learn. Il be going for LVL 3 for sure and prob USTFCCCA jumps certification also.
How about you?
@@JumpersJunction I looked at my notes yesterday and saw "Avoid coaching carrousels"
Is height nesacary for long jump
While high can provide an advantage as your center of mass will be elevated at takeoff, that does not mean that there is a limit. Robert Emmiyan wasn’t super tall but jumped over 29 ft.
Tetoglou 8.41😉
Is short man can jump??
Hi
Am a Ugandan and I want to be a great Long and triple jumper. Will you coach me plz
