How Bike Shop Owner Discovered He Was Jeff Bezos’ Dad

- Jeff Bezos changed the way we shop forever when he founded Amazon in 1994. He later became the world’s richest man. In 2014, Inside Edition met his biological father, Ted Jorgensen, a bicycle repairman in Phoenix. He was a teenage circus performer when he married Bezos’ mom and after their marriage broke up, Jorgensen gave up custody of his son. “Big mistake,” he told Inside Edition. He only realized who his son was when a biographer contacted him. Jorgensen passed away in 2015. #InsideEdition

I knew Ted, it started for me back in 1981. A buddy of mine wanted to go bmx racing so went out to Peoria Dunes in Peoria, AZ one fall evening and signed up. I took a 1st place that night in the beginner class and I was on cloud 9 but that's where it started. Ted approached me and asked if I wanted to race for his team Roadrunner Bikes. I agreed and my grandfather and I went to his shop the following week to discuss more and pick up a jersey.
Ted and my parents, grandparents became good friends after that with poker parties they held, hanging out at the race track and eventually owning a race horse together. Ted spoke of his son back then but didn't know where he was. Ted had married another woman and she had 2 daughters, sadly the oldest one was struck by a bus at ASU and passed away. The younger one went with him one day to Turf Paradise (horse racing track in Phoenix) and disappeared with a man and never returned, she did call one Christmas a few years later and just said Merry Christmas. Ted was a very kind guy and to own a bicycle shop for over 35 years is a success in my eyes. I last spoke with him around 2011-12, I went into his shop looking for parts and we chatted for an hour or so about the old days and he was just as humble as he was back then.
I used to go go this guy to get all my bike parts growing up. He was always very humble. What a trip

@Maverick he didn't abandoned him his wife got custody
@Maverick there's actually many reasons someone would give up their kids. Sometimes pregnancy happens without planning, and the father or mother is in no position whatsoever to raise a child, I.e. if they're homeless themselves. Giving a child up for adoption is a significantly better route for the child as they get a chance at a good life. Jeff bezos was not "abandoned". There's a HUGE difference.
Maverick just out of curiosity, when you reply to Manofconstantsorrow, did you watch the entire video yet or not ? Because in the video already stated he lost the custody.

He knew though? The father said he didn't want a dollar of his.
His biological father didn’t but his adopted dad, the one who was present throughout his life did know. Odd he didn’t care to contact him before he was informed he was a billionaire.
Lol I'd dare to say thee biggest

@@octopusph.d7737 You obviously didn't.
“Jorgensen opened a bike shop, and TOILED AWAY IN OBSCURITY FOR YEARS”. jeez, give the man a little credit.
He opened his own business... I got stuck on that comment as well.
lol.
Lol ya that comment was unfairly brutal. Almost everyone is obscure to most unless you’re incredibly famous or wealthy. Whats the point of saying that. His dad, not model looking, non millionaire, non mensa member, non phd hold has been living in arizona. Lmfao

@@dobattlers is it really that hard for media to say "he lived a normal life" lol, journalism should be simple and clear, if not it just makes thing more complicated than it really is.
RIP Mr. Jorgensen
This was a very disrespectful segment . Putting down honest days work to highlight a billionaire
How did this guy waste his life? He probably enjoyed starting his own business, having a *successful* marriage, and raising his family. But he’s not a billionaire so he “wasted away his life in obscurity”. Tf?
The reporters disrespectful wording literally goes against himself because hes not a billionaire lmfao
I mean the same could be said for Jeff.
Due has a Xbox avatar as his profile pic 🤣
"Toiled" doesn't mean "wasted"
@@overlord5371 that literally has nothing to do with the comment
"Toiled away in obscurity..." alrighty, fire the writer of that line. Extremely harsh and rude. Just because he didn't live the life of his son doesn't mean his life was meaningless.
DFH agreed completely. It was an unnecessary shot.
I immediately thought that line was unnecessary as well. To diminish 40 years of this guy's life just because we wasn't making headlines is just cruel.
To these people if your not constantly in the spotlight your irrelevant
DFH I completely agree. That was unnecessary garbage..
Lol crazy . Also his wife like if had been a garbage man would've been easier to contact him looool
"toiled away in obscurity" lol no that bike shop looked mad good
His Cuban dad is a heck of a father!
Besos sounds like he’s either a cruel mean human or a heartbroken son who felt abandoned by his father
I think that's where cruelty often crops up. From bitterness stemming from trauma. Letting it fester is on the individual though, always.
@networth assoc that’s what I was gonna say
He’s since adopted a different father. Not this man and certainly not the man his mother married. You guess...
He has no connection to this man. His father Miguel Bezos raised him.
Both
Gosh. It not like he dumped his kid. I think the guy will one day regret not seeing his dad when he had the chance.
mark Philpot I think he already does, just doesn’t realize it yet.
Yea sounds like the mom took him away pretty much. Step dad prob abused him too
2davivadiva how would u know ?
He never tried reaching out. Giving up custody is not the same thing as a restraining order. You people keep absolving this guy of responsibility. If he cared he wouldn't have totally abandoned his kid.
Didn't he pass away? It's too late for him.
Bros literally got a fine life with a business and they're trynna compare him to his son he doesn't even know wtf
So his biological dad was just a normal human
" toiled away in obscurity" that's how they describe an honest business owner these days?
NorCal Irie In America I guess
I was thinking the same thing. So gross.

NorCal Irie I saw your comment and then 1 second later he said that word.
What I learned from this: if someone who is going to die very soon wants to apologize to you, just go, accept the damn apology and leave. Not that hard.
Brittany Roberts you don't have to accept it to give it a try
That's what I was thinking! What would it have hurt for him to have just met the guy and listened to him?
Nobody is obligated to accept any apology. Nobody is obligated to give a damn if someone's dying
@@napoleonbonaparte7529 yikes!
@Brittany Roberts hes stupid rich. Youre telling me he couldn't afford a jet too see the one man that gave him life? To at least hear his story on why he abandoned him? I grew up in foster care and had i been in jeffz shoes id spend a million if it meant finding out why my parents didnt want me.
Its Ironic how Amazon puts store front bike shops out of business
poor guy, he rlly seemed like a sweet man.
This man gave me my first bmx Haro bike when I was little about 11 years ago. He’s always been the most sincere man
Awww that's so sweet. I'm sorry for your lost tho :((
He gave you the bike, or did he sell you the bike? I just want to clear this up, because I think it would be nice to know exactly what he did for you. If he sold the bike....that's still an ok thing....he treated you well, and was friendly. My aunt owned a shop and sold bikes.

Toiled away means to work hard
@@SmittyWerbenJagermannJensen it was phrased "toiled away in obscurity", no doubt the media is trying to make it more dramatic.
90AlmostFamous obscurity means hidden or unknown. So he was working hard in an unknown or hidden state. Which is true.
That's the corporate-owned media trying to convince people that a comfortable life is never enough.
1:22 "I immediately saw dollar signs appear out of thin air" is what he wanted to say 😂
The reporter or Ted? If you mean Ted then you need help, all Ted wanted was to see his son one last time before he died.
