The Secret Circle being cancelled after one season was a crime. Also special mention to a show called "The Nine Lives of Chloe King" also based off of a book, that was rudely cancelled after one season as well.
Thank you for calling out the SA for what it is! So many people ignore things like that when men are the targets, which is so toxic and harmful. The fact that you never give that shit a pass is one of the many reasons I keep coming back to your channel and your content.
I was confused to begin with because it was treated as normal! Once it dawned on me what was happening I was disgusted. The author really made that something a main character does and everyone accepts. I was even more surprised when the 2012 author continued that. Did they really not see the problem with that??
I'm loving this, and I have never even watched the series or read the books... Please do "The Southern Vampire Mysteries", AKA " The Sookie Stackhouse Novels", AKA, the books that were made into True Blood TV Show! I will personally pay you to! 😂
@@morganarosana sameee I honestly don’t remember the first two books that much so I might re read those and continue on with the series. I think last time I got sidetracked and never continued
in some cases authors are hired to write books that will then be turned into tv shows (ie Pretty Little Liars) and the same company (alloy entertainment) hired LJ Smith to write TVD but sat on the story for awhile. you can tell they were ready to make the tv series because Smith hadnt published any TVD for almost 10 years, then was told to continue the series to promote interest in the show.
She signed a Writer For Hire Deal back in the '90s (She's basically a Ghostwriter but you actually know who she is instead of her staying anonymous) because dummy didn't read what she was signing first.
I LOOOOVED this show growing up😂😂 I was so disappointed it got canceled! I can’t wait to hear you tear it to shreds, I never got to know what happened in the end
If you enjoy dated teen books about witches that feature Books of Shadows, you definitely need to read the Sweep series by Cate Tiernan! The books of shadows actually play a really interesting role in the story since they're used as both a journal and a record of spells they learn. You get to read snippets of different characters' BOS at the beginning of most of the chapters. One of my favorite series when I was a teen ❤️
I remember this was on Netflix at one point, and Netflix was also on the 3DS. Which is how I binged the show 😂 I watched it all on a tiny 3DS screen and absolutely loved it! And then I found all the books at the dollar store. 😁
I completely agree with the views on cheating it is such a hurtful thing to experience and yet it's seen as ok in fiction... Also agree with your points on charmed I think my love of witches stemmed from that.
I'm s definitely not right to cheat but the heart wants what the heart wants. Maybe don't place all your happiness onto a person and when they inevitably end up disappointing you because they are just human it won't be such a huge ordeal to get over lol yeah.
same~ i loved the secret circle tv show, it had a lot of up and coming actors that i still like to watch and i was pissed when it got cancelled. they couldve made a lot of money had they kept it going.
There are two things I am truly here for: your Charmed Book of Shadows and your Ace mug. I love how you break the books down and talk about how certain aspects don't work, ultimately affecting the whole series. It truly does feel like the author was writing without planning anything and was pulling random things out for the sake of drama, plot, and putting more books out.
I never read the books but I was sooo pissed when the show was canceled!! I signed petitions to get it picked up somewhere else or somehow get a second season greenlit! I'm sure it wouldn't be as good now but I still consider it one of my favorite one-season shows. I also love that the cast is still close! 🔮
When I was a teenager I remember being so frustrated because it got cancelled. Like there was this big thing to which the show was heading but I have no clue what it was.
Love your super long videos like this, they get me through house work and school work! Also, completely forgot about the show until I started watching this vlog, now I’m having flashbacks to my teens 😂
No this is insane because I have been on a really weird nostalgic LJ Smith binge and I just finished the Secret Circle trilogy one and I just discovered your TVD video and was thinking I wish we had one for TSC and you even did the spin off sequel series thingy by Aubrey Clark. The part about Scarlet being meant to be part of the circle could actually work. Often, these sort of characters, the second grade evil villains who follow the main big bad, are manipulated somehow to follow the main baddie. I could totally see Black John manipulating Scarlet, telling her that her rightful place was in the circle, while still intending for Cassie to be the real member of the circle. This would be to manipulate Scarlet into foing his bidding, making her feel special, the 'favourite daughter', whwn in fact Black John is just lying to her to subjugate her. Of course, this book series isn't good & isn't written by a smart author, but we can at least wish it was thid good & clever

As a teen, I read only the first 3 ( others aren't translated to my language) and watched the movie. I loved the story. Now that I understand English better I am thinking of reading the series
i read up to book four in high school. the one thing I viscerally remember about these books is a scene in one of them where Cassie visits Adam's room and talks about how he changes from his school jeans to his 'at home jeans' and I have never forgotten that psychopath behavior. who changes out of jeans into different jeans to lounge at home? peak 'authors grown in a lab' 'authors have never met a real teenager (possibly any real person) behavior.' I literally have never forgotten that throwaway line in like 10 years.
In the TV series with that whole plot line about Adam and Cassie having to drink that elixir that makes them forget that they love eachother, but it only works on Adam. Teenage me was GUTTED
If you can get your hands on the third one, that's the original trilogy right there, and if you enjoy them, try out books 4-6 even though they were written by someone else, but definitely 1-3 if you're thinking of reading them anyway 🥰
I don’t usually watch reading vlogs but yours are on a level all their own and always a MUST WATCH. This was so hilarious, I feel like I just read and laughed through this series with a best friend…thank you!
I read the original trilogy in 10th grade, just as the tv show was getting started. I thought it was so creepy Faye was romantically involved with Cassie's dad. Just so weird. I think the tv show was better than the books plotwise. I think Faye was similar in both, they really nailed the character on the tv show.
I remembered reading these in middle school and loving them and then later rereads being like "wow that was certainly something..." radiates like the 1st round draft of a teen drama script but in book form. Also oof there were so many potential moments for a cool development in the plot and instead we just use manifestation as shallowly as possible
There's another series called The Clear Water Witches series by Madeline Freeman that is so much like this one that I get them so confused all the time.
omg tween me loved this show and was so upset when it was cancelled i cant wait to finally have some closure on how the story ends without having to read it myself lol
Them just feeling "something" whenever they do magic just shows how incompetent they are. They clearly don't know what they're doing even with the most basic stuff. They don't understand the magic. Not to mention, a whole coven of high schoolers is so dumb. I know it's part of this genre that a bunch of teenagers just keep inserting themselves into stuff they have no idea about and actively making things worse, until they maybe get it right out of sheer luck. But like, people are dying! Also, I am convinced that L. J. Smith's whole success is that she can write cliffhangers. That's literally the only thing she can sort of do. Because I remember reading the Vampire Diaries and constantly being furious, because every book was incredibly boring and the single one interesting thing happened right at the end and cut of in the middle, so it would make you read the next book. It was such bs.
Maybe you've already read it, but if you love witch stories, you should try Sweep by Cate Tiernan. This was my shit as a young witchy teen! It's great bad YA drama, with a weird mix of real "pop witchcraft " and modern fantasy bits. Very early 2000s as well!
I love videos like these so much, honestly they inspire me to want to have a readathon of my own to read all of these books and it gets me out of a reading slump. I don’t know if you’re into fairytale books but maybe a twisted tales readathon sometime??

I have so MUCH nostalgia over the original three The Secret Circle books! I read them in middle school the first time so that might be why I still love them 😂. You are also so wrong about the T.V. series being better for only having five members before Cassie. The Henderson Twins, Chris and Doug, where robbed of their chance to shine!
Honestly loved the vlog. Because of your storytelling. You made me laugh so hard sometimes and I totally agree with you when it comes to the stupidity of those characters and the whole being soulmates thing😮💨🔮🤍

🔮✨🌙 this was a ride, Gav! Thanks for all the effort this took. I had never heard of this series before, but the video is still so entertaining! I feel like I'm listening to high school drama and I'm here for it. Also, when you broke out your Charmed book of shadows? Iconic!
Oh My God. I forgot how much of earworm and iconic that intro song is. anyway i loved the show growing up and i still sad that they cancelled it. but we got Shelley Hennig and Pheobe Tonkin's friendship out it, i love the video gavin. Thank you for this🔮

🔮 i love watching/listening to you review series like these. It saves me time and money. Also if you give them a good review i have a better idea of what to expect when i go to pick them up!
Oh I would be so happy if you ever did the Night World Series, it’s been foreverrr since I’ve read them but I do remember loving them when I was like 13 loll. Would be really interesting to get an adult perspective on it. In fact I’m tempted to go back and read them again to see if I still enjoy it at all xD sometimes I forget those books exist despite how much I loved them way back then. I barely even actually recall what happens in them. Edit: Also, I never did read the secret circle series so this is pretty…. Interesting 😂😅 doesn’t seem like I missed out on much though LOL… Im pretty sure I watched some of the tv series, but I can’t for the life of me recall any of it, even less so than my memory of the night world books.
Another great video 🥰 you should definitely do Vampire Academy and the spin off series Bloodlines, Vampire Academy doesn't involve witches but Bloodlines does but I feel like both of them would be interesting book series for you to read and talk about. They are good book series however they are definitely of their time & definitely problematic
🔮The background when you showed the books is so pretty 1:27:44 you yelling “think” made me laugh 😂 I love your dedication to making your own blue ray version of the secret circle Personally I love the Nightworld series but I can see you skipping it. The final book is never written (still after like 20-30 years). Every couple in that series is a soulmate with a “chord” kind of connection, which I love but since you hated it in this video I don’t think you will haha. From what I remember there is more chemistry and feelings though (but it has been yearsss since I read it) Suggestion: House of Night series by PC Cast & Kristin Cast
🔮 I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts about the series. I remember being intrigued when the tv show came out, but I never had time to read the books.
I read the first 3 books because I liked the show. I'm really glad that I only bought the first one and read the second at the library. After that I couldn't after that. Diana was so passive and Faye was so "bad" and Cassiae was obsessive. She sees Diana through a window and suddenly she just wants to be part of Diana's life. She is creepy. Also, the first time I read the first book, I didn't pick up on that Cassie and Adam don't just make out, they have sex. Smith says something like "and the world changed." It's and very '90s term for people having sex. I read the book twice since it took a year between reading the first time and reading the next books. I picked up on it the second time. I couldn't read the next books,
Your channel came up as a vid recommendation and I've never heard of The Secret Circle but I love this video and summary (and whiteboard) so much :) Thank you!!
Love your dedication to these vlogs. You're amazing. I enjoyed the TV show but never read the books. I think I read the very first book of The Vampire Diaries and decided that the books were not going to be for me. 🔮
I had compleeetely forgotten about this series… Suddenly made me think of the Immortals series by Alyson Noel, another great/bad teen series I’d love to hear you talk about 🔮
Listening to a review of these really makes me feel my age. I read LJ Smith's books when I was ten. I remember I enjoyed them at the time, but...I was ten.
You are absolutely amazing for reading the whole series 😂 I loved the tv show but hated the first book I dnfed it with the quickness. I see I didn’t miss out 😅
I adore the tv show and the actresses in it was a dream cast, devastated teenager me when they cancelled it. Main characters in teen drama's are the worst, can't think of a single show where they are not outshined by the rest of the cast
when the main characters are so clueless, you root for the antagonist 😅

🔮 Great way review to listen to while enjoying my late night gaming sess. Thanks for sharing your torment with us!
🔮The background when you showed the books is so pretty
1:27:44 you yelling “think” made me laugh 😂
I love your dedication to making your own blue ray version of the secret circle
Personally I love the Nightworld series but I can see you skipping it. The final book is never written (still after like 20-30 years). Every couple in that series is a soulmate with a “chord” kind of connection, which I love but since you hated it in this video I don’t think you will haha. From what I remember there is more chemistry and feelings though (but it has been yearsss since I read it)
Suggestion: House of Night series by PC Cast & Kristin Cast
I couldn't read the next books,
Please, please do a vlog of reading the Twilight series ☺️
Your channel came up as a vid recommendation and I've never heard of The Secret Circle but I love this video and summary (and whiteboard) so much :) Thank you!!
They may not be good books but I do love watching these videos :D would love to see you read nightworld series too :) 🔮
🔮 this was so fun! Thanks for being honest and entertaining 😂
Would love to see you rewatch the TV show cause I remember really enjoying it when it came out
🔮 never read secret circle, but really enjoyed the 1 season of tv show. Really enjoy the deep dive into the books😊
🔮 Doesn't matter if it's a 6-hour or a 15 min video by Gav I'll devour them ALL!!!!
The thing i have learned about the video is that if a kidnapper want to kidnap me ..I'll just close my eyes n think about them dying n they will
Love your dedication to these vlogs. You're amazing. I enjoyed the TV show but never read the books. I think I read the very first book of The Vampire Diaries and decided that the books were not going to be for me. 🔮
🔮 i finished so many pieces of art while watching this vid! it was so fun 🤣
Oh I love your commentary of the books, you had me howling with laughter, love love your videos 🎉💜🥳🥳🥳
I never mind a long Gavin vlog!
Iconic television show intro
Agree
This was so fun to watch! Loved this, Gavin! The books sound so bad but really addictive...hahah
Fantastic review, thank you 🔮
I forgot this show existed! Thank you!
omg a 3 hour long complete series video? My Sunday is made.
Haha thanks for watching!
I had compleeetely forgotten about this series… Suddenly made me think of the Immortals series by Alyson Noel, another great/bad teen series I’d love to hear you talk about 🔮
Please read The Forbidden game by L J Smith! It's like Jumanji horror and I remember enjoying it 😂
❤ it Gavin, you make me LOL. I was at a Teams meeting and forgot to mute my mic 😂
Listening to a review of these really makes me feel my age. I read LJ Smith's books when I was ten. I remember I enjoyed them at the time, but...I was ten.
The whole Adam cheating plot line would be 100% better if he had an identical twin brother like a soap opera
🔮🔮 Thank-you for another amazing video. Truly appreciate all the effort!!
You are absolutely amazing for reading the whole series 😂 I loved the tv show but hated the first book I dnfed it with the quickness. I see I didn’t miss out 😅
Love all your videos thank you so much for making them 🤍🖤🤍
I adore the tv show and the actresses in it was a dream cast, devastated teenager me when they cancelled it. Main characters in teen drama's are the worst, can't think of a single show where they are not outshined by the rest of the cast
Here here 🥂
