  • This is an inside look at a Group Sightseeing tour of Chichen Itza. From everything you can expect, prices, pro's and con's of visiting Chichen Itza while on a private tour.
It was the middle of September and while we were in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico we decided to go to Chichen Itza. One of the new 7 Wonders of The World. We started shopping around and while there is a ADO that does a daily trip from Playa Del Carmen and back we decided on booking on a group tour from the travel agency Solatino Tours and Travel. Using Group Sightseeing as tour company we were off. We paid $750 peso per person. As far as I could tell everyone we went to in Playa Del Carmen was selling the exact same tour experience of Chichen Itza.
The tour starts with them picking you up at your hotel at around 8 in the morning to transport you to the tour bus. It's a mix of English and Spanish so the tour can be a little long. During the ride to the first destination, which took about 3 hours they go over a lot of Mayan history. How the civilization grew to be as powerful as they were, their writing, numbing system and a complete backstory on the Mayan culture.
Our first stop was at the Cenote Hubiku just north of Valladolid Mexico. A cenote is a natural sinkhole resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. While you're here you have access to the cenote, all you can eat buffet (excluding drinks), there's a Mayan replica village, gift shop and tequila room but remember to use your time wisely because we only spent 2 hours here.
To finish the trip off we spent 30 minutes in the city of Valladolid Mexico. The bus tour stops in the city center and let's tourist get off, stretch, grab a quick meal or visit the Iglesia de San Servacio. A Catholic Church that was once a Mayan city, destroyed by the Spanish in the 16 century and used to build to what you see in the video.
Now on to the main attraction. Chichen Itza. The tour starts at the iconic Mayan temple, Kukulkan. Also known as El Castillo. The tour then took us to the Great Ball Court, Temple of the Warriors and The Plaza of a Thousand Columns. It's hard to do justice of Chichen Itza in a video so I tried to focus more on the review of the tours they sell in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
