  • My new solo hot tent and titanium wood stove were ready to go on a trial run. In mid November, I packed up the canoe at the Herb Lake access in Haliburton, and headed to site #88. The plan was to spend the day setting up the new solo Isola 4 nylon hot tent from Lite Outdoors, and my new titanium wood stove from FireHiking in preparation for this upcoming winter season. I planned an easy backcountry trip, so I could focus on spending my time making sure I knew how to set everything up, use it to the best of it's ability, and tear it down and pack it, before the frigid winter weather moved in. These videos will go over all the details of my new gear, and others in my winter set up and provides a lot of information, in addition to some gorgeous scenery and some tasty food.

    Welcome to the wonderful world of lighter weight cold/winter camping. Titanium stoves work very well here in Canada and the silnylon tents and tipis/pyramids do as well. Only downside I've found to the tipi/pyramid style is the stakes and our lovely Canadian Shield. It can be a challenge for sure.

      Lol. Thanks so much for commenting. Yes, I’ve been dealing with the same thing with my homemade pyramid hot tent for the last six years and staking it in rock. All good. I just had a battle with that last trip. It will be up soon. Cheers!

    Great trial run! What a big size difference between the "usual" winter camping, eh! Rock. Rock. rock. r...rock. Rock. The stove looks excellent (if small).

    Like the new tent going to be a great set up for the winter. I was really curious to see if the chimney would actually remember the vertical bend as you had described in the original stove video. I commented at the time that you had best described this feature for me in that video and todate still have and this video proved it lol. I use one actually two of those welding blankets in my hot tent they are great for it and preventing fires. Hope you have a great holidays and happy new year.

    I hadn't heard of Lite Outdoors. Was considering another tent made outside US or Canada because of its price and design (stove not in middle). Because of your video, I bought this tent instead!

    I think a lot of folks are curious about just how well those folding titanium stoves are going to handle the sort of conditions we have for winter camping in ontario. Looks like you'll be able to let us know probably before just about anyone else.

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  8 місяців тому

      I am curious about that as well. For the temperatures I had it was sufficient, but I’m not sure how it will handle the extreme cold? But I will find out, and I will honestly tell you the truth about it. Thanks for checking out my video and taking the time to comment. Cheers!

    Hello Christina, just watched your latest video- I have the same hot tent only the standard which is 1lb heavier. I also have the same stove! I live on Vancouver Island which has a very different climate than Ontario. I envy your lake systems. I had a lot of rain my first night so am working at water ingress mitigation, my first floorless tent. I have received many ideas from viewers which I will be trying out. I love both products. they worked very well for me overall. Hoping you too enjoy them too.

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi Wendy. Thank you so much for the great comment. That’s so cool that you have the same system. And yes, we are very very spoiled here in Ontario with our amazing lake systems. If I can ever help you further with anything, please feel free to DM me at camperchristina@outlook.com. I have tested out many types of floor systems in my various hot tents over the years. Wishing you all the best in 2024. Thanks so much for commenting and watching the video. Cheers!

    Hello Christina. I am happy to watch your videos again. Wow a nice campsite. I hope all is well with you. My friend Rod does videos too and has seen yours. I was wandering where was that place you had noisy neighbors in the winter time. Was that Silent Lake PP.? We are going on a hike New Years day. Monday. I wish you the best and am looking forward to your videos in the new year. Please stay healthy and be happy. I wish you much happiness.

      Lol hi Paavo. Yes it was silent lake in the hydro section but I’m actually here now and it’s been dead quiet the past 2 days. Sadly I’m heading out in a few hours and will miss your visit. Would’ve been awesome to meet you. Glad you’re doing well and getting out. Happy holidays. 😊

    I have a Lite Outdoors Plateau 5 tent. Great tent. Well-used, that's for sure. I use their titanium stove as well. I bought a Luxe Hiking Gear inner tent and I hang it inside the tent from one of the loops inside with a piece of paracord. Certainly that stove won't work with the inner tent, so I have a G-Stove with an offset for the stack and I set the stove to one side. Not for backpacking...lol.

    You're lucky that you feel comfortable travelling alone! Not that I'm afraid to do so-I just don't enjoy travelling solo. And because it's not easy to find the right people, who can go for more than a day or two during a weekend, my travels are somehow limited.
    By the way, I wonder what kind of cameras do you use for your vlogging (and other equipment)? I'm always interested in the technical aspects of videos.

      You can find all of the gear and equipment I use on my trips on my website at camperchristina.com. All of my videos are filmed with my iPhone and I use a portable charger to keep the batteries going. I have been solo tripping since 2015. You get used to it and even love it after a while. Cheers

    Looks like a nice set up with the new tent. I did the same thing with my left over welding blanket piece. The falls at the Knife Lake portage is a pretty spot for sure. No campsites on Knife Lake though. But there is the Knife Lake Hunt Club cabins there, complete with bear traps to watch out for! Question for you- Does the stack pipe thermometer stick to that stack pipe?

    • @CamperChristina
      @CamperChristina  8 місяців тому

      Thanks Gary. The thermometer broke a few years ago. I haven’t used one since. I don’t feel the need to replace it. Every one I’ve had has broken after a short amount of time. Cheers
