And about that “too flamboyant” crack from Tyrinth. Have you ever looked at actual medieval weapons, clothing and art? That sword is rather plain by comparison.
@@markfergerson2145 If it's the hero sword of the main character from a hoity-toity family, you bet the one piece that doesn't get dinged is gonna be blinged out. I'm thinking of bejewelling it to make it look like ruby, sapphire and mother of pearl.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I had to read this comment three times before I understood what stress was supposed to be placed on which syllables. Also, I agree.
Shad, I think as far as the colors go for the pommel of the Shadiversity sword, you could test out a "faded" version that uses duller colors. Kind of the middle of the road option. Might look nice.
There should be a short named "Shadiversity medieval drip compilation" where all four of these fine gentlemen dress up in these amazing clothing and pose with the fantastic weapons like true medieval knights with the drip musical(cancun sega) playing behind. Just so every medieval nerd can have a video to show how good medieval dressup can be.
18:39 Tyranth is absolutely right, the red can stay, the blue and white are too irritating. As a bit of an artist myself, I think there should be a full steel version with the blue of the logo a bit darker than the rest and the white slightly lighter, but still silver. As for the red part, make it a gem. For the replica, a glass gem would work just fine, but in the book, you could make it a garnet or a ruby. I think the blue and red on the same sword would be, like Tyranth said, too flamboyant, too many colors in one place, but making it fully steel would be too bland and the sword of a main character deserves more than that. But a full steel version with a bright red gem in it is the perfect balance between the two. Also, red is just a neat color, Tyranth is absolutely right. But that's just my advice, it's your sword, do whatever you fancy. Great design over all, on both this one and Imperius!
Imagine working at Calimasil, having made this sword Shad designed (and liking it) and then hopefully asking "do you perhaps have any more designs?" And Shad just saying "don't get me started" Calimasil must be very happy with this cooperation.
As a thought, why not make up a 'Knight of Shadiversity' package once the swords are done? Source some good items to put in it, then when people order them you can bring in all the pieces and ship them out at a bit of an upcharge for putting it all together, maybe get a deal from the suppliers for working in bulk or something? Could even make it a kickstarter.
Perhaps the shadiversity long sword pommel can stay with blue and red, but shaped like the ruby and sapphire jewels, like a relic sword, representing a high status, rank or monarchy. Then have the metalic one for combat.
I don’t LARP, and all my blades saw combat in either the rock pile or the sand box, but that Imperious Mk 2 is gorgeous. If any plausible use of one fit within my capabilities after losing part of my spine I’d be extremely happy to have a pair of those (one for me, and one for thee….. so I can observe it’s beauty while still in use).
i love alexandian type longswords so big fan of the new larp sword. don't really do larping myself but i'd recommend dropping the color in the pummel and instead go maybe with unshiny and shiny points to kinda reflect that certain areas of the design were polished after grinding out the shape to make it pop expecially as light hits it. ps: longer handels are nice for leverage!
Also i dont think you do this already, but I would love to have the swords you designed as long as it's forged for combat, as that's my rule on collecting weapons. At the end of the day, I may need it to protect my home and family if need be. Due to the design and quality and sentimentality, I would easily pay a grand for such a sword and call it a bargain. Plus, it would look gorgeous on my hip as I wear a sword everyday and would even make a spectacular dress sword!
And today on Shadiversity Medieval fashion models, I think silver on the pommel around the logo would help because silver can be a brighter sword color helping the colors on the logo to match with the sword.
I'm in Shad mode! I'm catching up back to back. I am here for the content, though! Shadiversity and Co. is gradually evolving! I have no segue to A Knight's Tale, but I want you guys to review it, anyway! My, how time flies!
I agree with Nate, you should keep the colors in the pommel. Maybe add a red crystal in the center of the crossguard. It's a larp sword and lots of fantasy mechanics use crystals embedded into weapons as the parts that hold enchantments like fire/ice. It would help make the colors in the pommel be less jarring/prominent. Unless that's what you're going for then by all means lol.
If I am able to, I'd love a sword for yardwork & outdoors things... Almost every machete I've used is ok to poor, but I haven't tried an actual sword! A messer or falchion should be best for such things as I have use... although not as easy to acquire as a basic Walmart wood cleaver.
Watch their video on turning a machete into a falchion! In that case, a thinner machete worked really good, and they basically just needed to make the cross guard and pommel, and handle for it. I have a machete sitting unused at home that I'm desperate to try out and see if I can make my own!
Loved seeing this unpacking idea of what is to come. Love that the shadervisity sword just naturally filled a gap in the companies line up and looks great. But i was really impressed with the imperisus sword blade on that hilt of there design that looked awesome. I wonder if they will be up for the challange of producing a foam version of the titan sword when that is completed...with there durability factor if any could make a good variation in foam i feel they have a shot.
It's sad. I am in a situation now, due to many medical issues, that I can barely walk let alone work and have no income, but also can't get disability help. I'd love to support, but I just can't. And this locks me out from more Shadiversity and Knights Watch content. I love you guys and your channel. I know you need support, but it is really a shame that some of your dedicated fans are penalized for having poor life situations like mine. That said, thank you very much for posting this for free. It was really fun to watch!
Tyranth is right, red is a great color, i especially like it contrasted with black. Plus gold or brass accents if you´re feeling a bit fancy. Silver works too for the more martial minded.
The pommel is removable, right? Have two color options to swap out; bright and neutral metal. If the colors are too bright for one's personal taste, use antiquing/weathering techniques to dull it. Or even bejewel it to look like ruby, sapphire and mother of pearl. Just to be extra.
it looks like an Oakshot type 18. These diamond, heavy blades were used at Bosworth Field. They were usually carried in an eel and wood sheath filled with oiled cotton. When he is saying "Alexandria sword" he is referring to the swords sent to Alexandria as peace gifts by western crusader armies. Congrats on your new book. I await the final manuscript for editing.
Must also produce a hanger in the form of the keep background used in the logo... I also agree with the color AND the steel for the logo on the pommel.
You can keep the coloured pommel, you know. A lot if wealthy knights incrustrated their swords with jems or even garnet and saphire jem-plastines. I wonder if you could keep the colours and somehow stylize your logo as if were made by that technic.
Cool video. I would say it's definitely a Naginata and not a Glaive. A Glaive is more similar to a Guandao at least from a blade perspective. Length wise the Naginata and Glaive are similar. There are of course varients across all three that I've mentioned.
I noticed something nice about that crusader uniform! The cross on it isn't screen printed, it's appliqued on! I can't tell if it's machine applique or hand stitched, but still it's nice detail
