This video was AWESOME! I gatta come see this place sometime!
cant put rims on an engine
I usually only subscribe if I feel like I like the content. With that level of explanation that you just went into, you sir have earned it. Please continue to make more videos like this, this is incredible information for the car world.
This isn't an "Everything YOU need to know" video, but this is definitely an "Everything YOU should know" type of video. Definitely a ton of wisdom on display from years of project cars and road racing 👍🏽
Glad it was helpful!
Here's the great swap guide!! What engine is your favorite for a swap?
I like the toyota 1uz engine for a swap
I hope my daughter can come to genius garage sometime to meet you she is currently building a 1970 Chevy 350 in our garage and she's only 10.
@@lostcowboygarage2035 Nice
1.8t VW and Audi engines. Things sound great with the right headers, and fit great into anything german 😂
I DIG the busa V8 swaps, those are so cool
The honda K-series is very easy engine to make reliable power and it will give the revs needed to fit the car it goes in. Those engines are now the 4cyl equivalent to an ls swap, they are everywhere. Affordable, reliable, huge aftermarket and a lot of info.
3:45 "it's my garage and i will throw my trash under the table of i d#$* well please." "Thank you very much"
The wealth of knowledge in this channel is unprecedented!
That casual “there’s one outside rotting” 😂
One of the things i've been cooking up in my head, is to marry a Lexus GS450H gearbox to the Haya engine, deleting the Haya gearbox entirely and powering the Lexus gearbox from the camshaft with an adapter that swaps the flywheel, thus turning the engine into a conventional power plant.
It would both give me reverse, and by utilizing the hybrid aspect of the GS450H, i can bypass all the issues of low torque. With half the batteries required by the OG car, it would more than enough understress the Haya engine. The whole setup, plus custom adapter, would be just as big as two Haya engines put longitudinally, which is the mad part about it. I wanna shoehorn that into a vintage European racer body i've been hoarding at my grandparent's farm for years now.
But... i don't have the time for that now, so i just soak up the Casey swaps to get by. :))
PS the gearbox by itself has enough power to slug around the behemoth of a car that is the BMW e65 quite happily. Damien Maguire ( a mad scientist ) here on YT has done it.
Did you say you wanted to drive a transmission off of the camshaft?
Yea
Naw
Lots of others youtubered did lots of engine swap bla bla bla with lots of HP but never used 100 person out of it this show how to build and make useful things this is why I like your channel so much you teach me lots of technical things I have never seen unlike others Chanel
You should bring Brent from PFI Speed onboard to help the students with Honda tuning and maybe even introduce them to FuelTech. Brent would be all about it. Keep it up Casey, tons of knowledge bombs. 👍🏻
13:01 This is the most accurate assessment of US car culture I’ve ever heard 😂
You should check out putting rods and pistons in the k with a small turbo to get boost fast. Than call Brent at PFI. Or just call Brent. He would probably come to you.
And I thought I had ADD...😂 Go dude!
I'm always watching for more C4 content.
Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong in an engine swap. I have a ton of respect for anyone who even attempts it.
Casey literally have 3 or 4 projects at all times, thats the dream
15:45 thats exactly how those small Legends race cars fuction. They are 5/8 scale, single seat midget race cars with fiberglass bodies in the form of old cars from the 1930's. Lots of fun.
i like how you call them engines and motors
Love the FSAE shout outs !
Love classic videos like this!
Hey Casey! I finally found some time to watch all the way through one of your videos. glad to see you're still at it! that Jabberwok build is NUTS! I love it. Thanks for all those kind words back in one of your earlier videos (with the yellow Ferrari) Cassia and I are doing well :) sending good vibes from Napa, CA area!

Awesome! Thank you!
That was great. I am building a racecar replica GT-40 and will use the Porsche transaxle and an LS3. Yes a Chevy in a Ford. I want a reliable and fast car that can go on track days as well as do weekenders. 530HP in a 2,400 lb car is plenty.
Which Porsche is the transaxle from?
Sam tiffin G96. You shouldn’t drag race with it but normal track day stuff will be fine.
I am looking forward to seeing the k swapped Indy car done.
You have some awesome engines there! Love me some k series honda!
A great presentation about using your head before you start a swap. One thing you did not mention is crank rotation direction. It might be a consideration.
The corvairs rotate backwards from a vw beetle.
They actually make a reverse ground camshaft people swap them and run the engines backwards.
@@fastinradfordable One foreword gear and four reverse! Oil pumps would be a problem as well.
Awesome teaching. Thank you!
One of my dream cars is a viper powered 69 charger. The other is the movie Chitty.
I'm doing a 5.3 gen 4 ls swap in my 1986 Pontiac Grand Prix LE with a ford 8.8 rear differential to handle the power. Yes the car originally set up for 305 small block chevy from the factory. It's a GM G body platform from the 80's.
A Viper motor would be badass in that car :)
I found out that crank centerline thing the hard way. Bought a 12 valve Cummins and a 63 Continental to put it in without doing my homework. 12 valve had a super high centerline and the 430 MEL from the Continental was developed to have an extremely low centerline. It was a bitch, but it's in and running.
I love this topic! Great video!
I'm planning on swapping a VW "07k" 5-cylinder engine into my Mk2 Jetta. I thought about putting a turbo on the original 16V engine but it's getting hard to find parts for them and I'd really like something a little newer and more refined. Plus, the 07k engines are dirt cheap, I mean just looking on ebay you can find tons of them for $600 or less. And since my goal is to be making over 200 hp, the existing 020 transmission just isn't going to put up with that without grenading. So I'd have to swap the transmission anyway.
There's a company that makes a swap kit for the Mk2, so that will make fitment simpler. The 5-cylinder engine sounds pretty sweet, so I can't wait to get this project started!
As the owner of an LS1 swapped 944, I feel attacked 😂
Someone's gotta stand up for the underrated V6 swap options: LFX, Honda J, AJ30. V6 is like that forgettable middle child between I4 and V8, outshined by its more glamorous cousin I6, but actually is a hidden gem.
I think HPD do a Kseries cam cover for use in single seaters that has mount for semi stressed applications, that with mounts on the dry sump should work ok with a pair of a frames - how it’s done in lmp2 with proddie engines. Also take look at the Speed series group CN2 cars that use the kseries in mini prototypes, should find a solution for the starter ring gear and flywheel
I love this video!! On a side note. Being from Puerto Rico. I personally know of a solid handful of Turbo honda engines, that have been making a solid 450hp for more than 5 years on the same set up without anything monitoring besides oil and stuff.
Super cool to see you doing a swap with my motor! I can vouch for how insanely reliable the K20Z3 is. I have consistently driven my car hard since I got it at 31k and am at 130k now with 0 issues and that includes some bolt ons and tuned making 220whp with an increase rev limit to 8700RPM.
I look forward to seeing how you guys build and tune the motor, especially since internally my k20 is bone stock. When I have the space I want to get a light project car to swap a K series in to have a pretty fast and cheap NA build.
This is an awesome video and I learned something!
Use your Chevrolegs for reverse
I'm considering K swapping a Geo Storm just mostly because it's never been done that I know of. I'll probably just eventually swap my Integra instead since it's documented. I live in the PNW and I really want to get good at automotive fabrication. I was in a welding course for almost a year before Covid. I've even worked in the field welding fences it was rough because it was all Galvanized steel and my lead would not use his fume catch.
3:17 top right. Beauty
sbc and 8,700rpm goes brraaaaaapppptttttt, gives me same feeling as hearing a GAU-8 AVENGER
You should look into the 2.0L K20 from a performance model because they will rev and perform a lot better than a 2.4L from a CRV or Accord.
you should check out fasterproms k swapped smart car. Those guys customized everything and tuned it! Keep up the good work!
I think one thing that should be mentioned in engine swaps is the history. Back when damn near every American car was front engine rear wheel drive damn near the only consideration was "is it front or rear sump?" beyond that just about any V8 or I6 would physically fit in damn near any chassis. Driveshafts are easy to make, live axles relatively easy to swap, etc. With a welder it was essentially legos between chevy, ford, and mopar. Just pick your chassis and put whatever in whatever. Lots of modern cars don't work like this.
Have had a lot going on so coming to this video late. One of your best in awhile. Really appreciate your points about being sensible about swaps rather than the "SWAP ALL THE THINGS!!" trend. However, when I saw the poor, rotting Boxster engine my mind drifted towards putting it into a sand rail :)
hey casey just so you know, the Honda k24 is known for being insanely sturdy with a turbo. Any other 4 banger I'd agree with you, you could add like 50%. But do some research and you'll see that while the k24 makes 250-300 NA with just a couple things done, without doing basically anything else it'll handle 600hp (THREE TIMES what it made stock) decently reliably. That's why I'm using one in my miata racecar project, built for drift competition. But this engine is the exception to the rule.
Nice to hear this perspective. Right now we are doing a couple project cars with engine swaps, one way way harder than the other. Agree in your point of considering whether the time and money investment is worth the conversion. Your video should have come out back in September when we started our AWD conversion lol. Thanks for your insights!
i never imagined they used clutches that were that tiny. thats about the size of whats in the bike engines.
I've heard people putting a vette trans in 944s, since the placement would be the same
On your push rod motor, a reverse drive bell housing from circle track sprints may solve your problem. Those flywheels are pretty small.
This adds to my confidence level regarding the swap I've been working on for my hatchback because I did consider a lot of what you said before diving into it. It's not too outlandish, 1.8l fwd to 2.0l with a turbo and awd conversion for a chevy sonic, hopefully it'll be on the road by the end or the summer.
did you ever get her done and running?
I would like to see a 4G63 swap into something you build in the future. I do approve of the K-Swap and would like to see a nice turbo involved in the build.
Casey just called out Jay Leno at 24:14 !
😁🤣😉
I had planned on swapping a 350 into my 78 Malibu but that Indy motor would work if you want to part with it 🤣🤣🤣
Always interesting Casey, you're like the 'Car/Engine Jaysus' like Iain is the 'Gun Jaysus'. You're Welcome. Also trust a mechanic with skinned knuckles and plasters on the fingers!!!
There's a reason my Falcon is getting a small block Ford in it when my Falcon already has a small block Ford. Just make it as simple as I possibly can considering my limited experience.
Though my nephew wants me to put a Viper V10 in it. Bless that boy, he's got the same ambitions I do. Lol
GREAT VIDEO!! THANK YOU!!
Glad you liked it!
You guys have a lot of fun don’t you :)
Casey what do you see in the way of people using the Tremec TR-9080 DCT transmission from the C8 Corvette for a transaxle instead of the Porsche units?
Casey, I admire you and agree the engine should fit the application...but there's something to be said about putting a Cummins Diesel in a modern Mustang for the shits and giggles. 😁😎
How about an Axial engine swap. A little Duke engine fun.
I want to engine swap a 944 but not an LS. I'd like to use the porshce v8 from the Cayenne s. The 06 Cayenne makes 380 hp which would be plenty for an 944. Problem is engine management would be a nightmare.
Seem like a K engine in a 944 could be pretty cool.
I think there is a problem with the youtube algorithm, I am subbed and have notis on, for some reason I have not been notified on a single upload since the last 2 weeks for some odd reason.
Don't know if anyone has experienced that too recently?
Agreed. UA-cam is jacked.
Casey, call the Boosted Boi's! They do all sorts of things with the K Series! Or call Rob Dahm? Dorito!
A flat(ish) 12 made from 2 Porsche flat 6es bolted together one on top oh the other.
Is it practical, no.
Does it sound cool, yes.
Been in the process of putting a k24 into a 76 corolla coupe for a couple years now although most of that has been rust repair and adapting miata subframes for the chassis lol.
Rule of engine swap. It always takes longer/ costs more than you think and you always realize you need a part halfway through.
Why not do a J series in the Indycar? Shorter and more compact, still a Honda that has rev potential, still cheap and easy to find, can be built for more NA power (mid 300's, close to 400 wheel, I've heard) sounds INCREDIBLE with a 6-into-1 equal length header system, and can be done up with boost for 700hp or so on stock bottom end(reportedly) compared to the K series' 500 (reportedly) or so. (All crank HP numbers)
Put the new C8 drivetrain in the back of a 60s El Camino!
I've been wondering what a viper engine would sound like with nascar boom tubes
I want to put a srt10 from the crew cab ram and put it in a Dakota. Smaller light truck with a capable transmission and plenty of power.
You should slap a junkyard turbo on that thing.
low power K v bussa youtube lap shoot out time lol
But as the old say goes there more than 1 way skin a cat !
Performance wise you got 3 car that any one could be the fasted depending on how it optimised you got grip v areo and power v weight
If only we new where to get tame racing driver from to test this out !!!
"I thought i was bleeding" i feel that. when are you not in a garage?
Anyone else heard him say "suck the engine out of the oil" when explaining about drysump 😂
The "electric motor for reverse", have you considered making it work forward too? KERS and all?
That was a great show. But, like Peter Griffin’s friends, I must ask. Peter, how can you afford your own helicopter and blimp?
i am just about finished with my 2.2 ecotec engine w/ a wc t5 tranmission swap into my 1984 alfa romeo spider..i go from 112 hp to 214 hp... should make it a wee bit faster... also replace the hood and boot with s2 fiberglass parts,, that took about 75 pounds off the car
i mean the guy who made the cummins mustang even admitted that he never expected the car to be good at anything, he mainly just wanted to do it which is a realistic goal that i can respect. all these kids that say “i wAnT tO pUt A rOtArY iN a SuPrA” have no clue how to build the engine let alone fix their 2003 subaru with an oil leak
get some k tuned engine parts for the k series
Have ya considered the triumph rocket 3 2300cc in front of that hewland....?...put that v-8 in yer buggy...😳😜
Pick any engine to swap, just don't pick a VG30DETT unless you like learning.
9:34 never under estimate a k20a/a2 even stock ones
Awesome!!!
Before I start watching, I'm gonna hazard a guess that I can't apply most of this to k-swapping a fit, lol.
Which also gave me the idea of slapping two motorcycle engines together for the meme (totally stupid).
Dude they've totally done that. The Ariel Atom V8 had an engine made from two hayabusa cylinder heads. I believe the block and crank were fully custom though. There's another company in the UK making a very similar engine for racing cars too.
To add to what XenFPV said, the motorcycle idea is an excellent idea. Radical make Hayabusa derived V8s for their big cars, Powertech also have done the same thing in the UK, and down in New Zealand, Hartley have made a Hayabusa V8. Also in New Zealand, Synergy have made a Kawasaki V8, and there are a couple of 1 off V8s made for UK hillclimb cars that use Yamaha R1 engines to make a 2 litre V8.
On the topic of swaps: you will not get your money out of it. The only reason to do it is because you love the body or are willing to reengineer a chassis. Good luck, be crazy, have fun.
Unless you swap in a Tdi.
Damn Casey, you were talking about 15,000 rpm...so fast.
Doesn’t radical developed a v8 hayabusa engine? That would be crazy to have lol
So why not make a chain drive system? And the k will do 600 + hp for cheep, check out "PFI speed" talk to Brent 😀
K series rule!
I actually just saw both a 944 and fiero with LSs just the weekend before last
Cars & Cantina?
@@RotelDip944 bingo
That was my 944 🙂
@18:32 CaaCee's Pro tip.....Where can i get me one of them dry sumps ,that pull the engine out of the oil ??? So, I've been doing wrong all these years !!!
You could have used a rotax flat four aircraft engine
So much common sense info about engine swaps some times especially if you have very limited engineering capabilities and knowledge.
I love him saying people are doing stupid build when he put a jet engine in a batmobile 😂😂
31:00 if you do that with a British accent, it's actually the 952 :D
Casey, use a kawasaki h2 engine. Makes 300hp at 14krpm.
I'd love to do a mid engine k24 swap. Maybe a Boxster transaxle?
K swapped MR2s are not uncommon. They're pretty good for it because they were made for a transverse 4 cylinder in the back. A longitudinal inline 4 mid engine would end up having to be a pretty long car and you'd probably waste a lot of space around the engine.
Edit: And to be clear it wouldn't be ungodly long, but you can get small V8s or large v6s that are about as short. For something custom or pseudo custom like he's doing it makes sense, but for a chassis you can buy and put it in there won't be much unless you get something that came with a bigger engine.
So what do you think about a 4.3 Chevrolet V6 engine put in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT converted to rear wheel drive? S-10 Rear axle, disc brakes. Converted to front-steer using camaro suspension components. Single turbo most likely. Big project but NOBODY is doing something like this except one video I saw on youtube. p.s. I have most of what I need just sitting around. And the GAGT is in great condition.
