      If you get into tanking just remember, Take your time and double check all of your lines before hooking and unhooking. Make sure the receiver confirms your bills are the right product going into his tank. Even have them put their hand on the valve if more than 1 product being unloaded at that station. If you unload with air pressure instead of a pump, NEVER didconnect after the valves are closed until you are sure the pressure has been bled off the line. Be safe out there and best of luck. Tanker do make great money though.

    • @TheTourettesTrucker
      @TheTourettesTrucker  7 місяців тому

      The average road trailer is insulated and most have steam coils. The trailers product will generally lose about 10° the 1st day then after that only about 2° a day. There are some trailers that are set up with in transit heat lines which the truck has to have connections to tie into. Once connected your trucks coolant will run through the trailer. The downside is if it's not your dedicated trailer you BETTER make sure that trailer doesn't have junk coolant in it.

  • @umpatas5468
    @umpatas5468 2 місяці тому

    Folks, open your dome or at least a 3" up top before offloading a gravity drop. On a blow off, open your discharge valves BEFORE pressurizing your tank. Why? Your compressor will reach unloading pressure just fine. You want to catch leaks before they spray. You want a high cfm air compressor on your truck. It doesn't need to be higher pressure than 40 psi.

      I'm the exception to the rule over here. I will stay out for 3 months if we have work. The owner of the company here doesn't really want anyone being gone more than 3 weeks though. Tankers are worse on snow and ice. The surge can push you into an intersection or through a curve if not careful.

      That's a hard one. I know I'm not doing too bad here at C Three Logistics but I would look for some small carriers with direct customers. A lot of the MEGA carriers have slashed the rates so bad that it's hard to make money. I've heard from several big tanker outfits that have cut the pay to the trucks and charging crazy fuel card fees and such trying to be more profitable. Usually the smaller companies care more about their drivers. And will work with you more than a mega carrier.

      I started pulling tankers with Roger's Cartage in 2006. The terminal I worked out of did lease purchase trucks and they didn't rip you off like these other mega carriers.
      I'm not a good one to say what I bet after taxes since I'm incorporated and pay myself a salary and have adp payroll and W2 myself. I'll just say back then I averaged around 170k gross to the truck back then. If you are going owner operator, it's best now to look for one where the truck will gross over 300k a year.

Theres a reason for everything and engineers and environmentalists have put a lot of thought into those regulations. They want everything closed up tight so that your not venting potentially harmful gases and/or liquids into the atmosphere or road. Even if it is just trace amounts and you dont understand the logic. Differing schools of thought on that one, driver. Putting air to the tank after all the valves are open will prevent you from building up much tank pressure and make it take a lot longer to unload. Heavy, viscous liquid and a long push to the customer’s tank, you could be there all day.

WHY NO BAFFLES, BUT WILL ROLL BY EXIT RAMP BY SLOSH SIDEWAYS. HAVE TO GO WAY SLOWER. THIS WHEN NON FOOD GRADE TANKER CAN BE CORRECTED BY HYDRAULICS DESIGN, EXAMPLE, FOOT SQUARE FUNNEL TO A 2 INCH DELIVERY BACK LOW ON OTHER SIDE SAME FUNNEL WITH SAY 4 INCH EDGE CAN'T SLOSH UP TO GO HIGH TILT/ROLL TANKER..

    Curious Sir, what is the code/legal violation for not driving with pressure on the tank? Many chemicals pressurize after closure and or transport. Remember the safety of bleeding pressure before opening the lid? There is rarely an instance of driving a chemical tanker down the road that is not under pressure. These trailers are rated by DOT as 'low pressure' trailers. I beg you to Never again release dog ears on the dome lid while still pressurized, (Especially placing your body over the lid while doing it.) I am aware of Tankers becoming gravely injured doing such blatantly unsafe acts. The ten minutes you saved is not worth losing life. Venting going down the road is illegal. After unload you are not empty (residue- requiring active BOL and ALL valves closed and capped.) Be careful out there Tanker Man. Be careful what you teach the new guys.

    You really didn't show your steps like your title mentioned. You didn't specify which valve to open first before offloading. And your hose would still tighten up even if your trailer was empty due to just the air pressure.. My opinion, unsafe steps.
