Have a sette 270wi and while Baratza is a great company, I have had a lot of frustration with the sette. Just received a niche zero a few weeks ago and love the simplicity. It puts out half the noise too. Love having a single step over micro macro. Hoping Baratza and others come out with competitors to the niche but for now, niche zero elevates my espresso game. It is truly the best single dose grinder of 2020
Been using Sette 270wi about a year and got no issue, every morning just put the bean and press, hopefully will remain no issue for years onwards. But I'm interested with Niche zero, maybe in future.
@@jeftesantiago I was ready to replace my 270 with an atom 65 or 75, likely the 65 and flat burrs. Yes it would be nearly 2x. I hesitated on paying $1150 for an atom 65 and finally decided to go Niche Zero and sell it off if I wasn’t happy. and I am glad I did. Now I just need to get the 270 on Craigslist or rBay
Agree, one of their reviewers is very hard to listen to because of the tone of her voice but her presentation is good and the other is just not very professional on camera.
Hi Pat, thanks for the comparison. I'm looking to upgrade my grinder and this is helpfull. I was thinking about the Sette 270. After some research it seems they have some reliability issues. Been using an Encore with my Gaggia Classic Pro and that's why I need to upgrade. We love the Encore for filter coffee and I'll keep it around. The Eureka Mignon line is intriguing. Solid functionality at reasonable prices. I almost decided on the Notte when it was pointed out to me that the Facile has the same sound treatment as the Silenzio. Priced between the Silenzio and the Notte the Facile makes the most sense to me.
I took a chance and bought the Eureka Mignon Notte and I'm happy I did. Consistent grind quality and great stepless adjusting for any dialing-in process. I would buy it again.
How is the clumping with the Notte? Any channeling issues? I’m looking to use bottomless portafilter so will need to be perfect. I heard amazing comments on the Sette 270 in low retention and low clumping, but would like a machine that will last more than 2 years at that price point…so I’m crossing that off my list. Love the look and solidness of the Eurekas. I will be single dosing using a bellow for zero retention, but just not sure how it is on clumping. I hear mixed reviews.
I'm surprised to see Baratza here. I came to see a Faustino review. I currently own a Sette 270, i dont think i would recommend it. OK It's fast and it produce a really fluffy grind, but really noizy. More important, after 2 years, the macro ring starts to goes out of order during grinding. and i have some channeling with a VST 15g & Lelit PL62X, i dont understand why. I think I will replace it with the Faustino.
Great video. Had a chance to look at these in-store and I really liked the look of the Eureka Note but the design of the Sette 270. Some pretty good options to pick from 👍
I am shopping for an espresso grinder in the under $200 range and it seems this grinder is very popular, but many UA-camrs are saying its not for espresso? If this is correct, what are your recommendation? Baratza Encore Conical Burr Coffee Grinder
Hi Lloyd, I have an Encore which we love for filter coffee. Recently got a Gaggia Classic Pro and see that I really need to upgrade. It just doesn't have the flexibility to dial in most roasts. I'm really impressed with Eureka's Mignon line. I'll probably go for their Facile. The Breville Smart Pro is probably the best at its price range.
What's the different between Eureka brew grinder and espresso grinder, say this notte and filtro, aren't they have the same 50mm flat burr and same stepless mechanisms?
I watched this vid after I have bought Sette 270 Wi, It keeps me up that my choice was not so bad ;) It's in top3 of ... whatever.... just in top3. BTW I've just watched some of your materials and it seems useful and interesting for coffe maniac. Greets from Poland.
After several years of issues with my Sette 270 I ordered a niche zero to replace it. It broke again and while I wait for the Niche I’m using a Eureka Crono I have for filter to make espresso and it’s outperforming the Sette. Over time the Sette has really bad drifting of grind settings even with tune ups
1. way too expensive to use it as an entry home barista IMO (same goes for the rocket grinder but if you got the $ might as well get it). 2. Hard to get your hands on the niche as they are all out of stock from the official website - might be able to find it used or from a third-party seller. 3. Harder to get parts if anything goes wrong. Again, if you got all the $ and time to order the Niche Zero and wait a couple months, I did see a few reviews saying it's a pretty darn good grinder.
I've read that UV light is bad for coffee beans. The Baratza looks to have a slightly tinted bean holder, the other 2 look completely clear. Obviously it isn't a good idea to store your beans in these grinders for more than a day or two. Not only that, I doubt that they are air-tight, so the beans may go stale if stored in them for too long.... which begs the question: for home use, why fork out so much money on a great grinder that doesn't address these flaws I mentioned. Unless of course you only fill them with enough beans to get you through a days worth of coffee drinking.
I have a Baratza Virtuoso Plus, and the hopper is indeed tinted but not airtight. I imagine it's the same on their Sette models. I suppose it would be alright if you wanted to throw in enough beans for your current brew plus the following day's brew, but I only use what I need each time.
I prefer ECM C-Manuale. no digital nonsense. lasts for 20+ years. I don't think Rocket or Eureka touch screen last for more than 5 ..... 6 years.. and good luck with finding touch screen spare parts after discontinuation.
Well, I prefer the videos from the professional kitchen since Gail left. All three grinders can be considered as best within the certain (entry-level home use) category but they are hardly best in absolute terms.
Almost every brew video explains that coffee must be weighed to get an accurate measurement, yet each of these grinders are made to prevent putting a scale under their spout/chute.
@@andlum83 The fact that espresso recipes call for grams means that accuracy is important for consistency. I could do what you suggest, but you invariably grind over the mark (18 grams) and waste expensive coffee.
@ Rich Broz I agree. I can’t stand wasting coffee. I just ordered the Notte and with no timer I’ll be measuring the beans and single dosing. I will use a bellow to make it zero retention. That way I should be getting out nearly exact I put in. But measuring after grinding doesn’t make sense to me either, cause if your over you have to throw away the grounds. If over on the beans you can put them back into your airtight container and not wasted. Plus I don’t want to deal with weighing a heavy portafilter on a scale and having accidental spillage in that process. And grinding into a bin to transfer to a portafilter is making my morning coffee a little to special. No thanks.
How can you recommend the Faustino, when it has so many faults with the touch screen? Check the Rocket Espresso groups on Facebook. PS: we miss Gail :)
Have the Faustino for half a year now, haven't got any issue with the touch screen. Not once. I've heard of the issue being a thing though. Maybe people are being rough with it? Maybe they use it with wet hands (these screens don't do well with water). I don't know, but I find this grinder giving me phenomenal results, great consistency along with a great look in the kitchen. My two cents.
0:35 Yes, it's very convenient to spend $300+ on a grinder that can handle both brew and espresso and then spend an additional $150+ for a grinder that can only handle brew. It's also convenient to cover my countertop with redundant equipment. I have no idea why someone would plop down a stack of cash on a Sette 270 and then not buy an Encore, too. Cheapskates who don't have massive kitchens, I suppose. Cretins, all of them...
