    Yes a classic .. Just got a V- Mach kit for my HW 98 .. All the high tech we have now and the old boy is still doing the job ..Classic engineering

      +Anthony Roach Yep... there is certainly something to be said about the inherent quality of the old guard, Anthony!

    This is really neat. When I was first learning to shoot when I was a kid I had a bad habit of canting my rifle to the left so my scope was never aligned. It use to drive me nuts because I thought something was wrong with my scope. Well one day I let a friend shoot my rifle and he pointed it out so I got a level and taught myself to not do it anymore. This certainly would have saved me a lot of headache

      Thanks for that, pellet man. Rifle cant is a big issue; one that many relative newcomers (and not-so-newcomers) don't realise. That's why I did the previous video to this (link in description and film) on the phenomenon of rifle cant... but that's only of use if you level up your scope in its mounts in the first place! That's why I've been quite taken by this little gadget - it's certainly a lot easier to use than hanging up a plumb line downrange... and hoping the wind doesn't blow it around while you try and align your crosshairs on it!!!

      +Anthony Roach Thanks Anthony. I assume you're talking about my FWB which made a cameo appearance in this video. Yes, it is a classic... and shoots beautifully courtesy of the V-Mach/ ARC upgrades inside it...

    Much simpler way to achieve this. Yes....first level the rifle. Perhaps have it sit on a convenient indoor table while doing do, maybe on a mechanical or sandbag rest. Go to the front of the rifle and peek through the objective lens from some distance, essentially viewing the scope from the opposite end compared to normal......this viewing location will allow you to clearly see the reticle in the scope, viewed some distance away. With the rifle still level.....move it such that the reticle lines-up with some doorway or window frame edge of your home....which is nearly certain to be plumb. Adjust as necessary. Done.

    You can also use a cord with a weight and use that for the vertical line in the cross hair of the scope and a level on your rifle. Costs next to nothing.

      +Keller Gibson True... but don't do it in windy conditions... and string thickness has to be matched with the crosshair stadia thickness

      @@AirgunTV and yet the line thickness of this gadget is no where near matching the reticle even in the demonstration. Which seems to be to present a margin of error issue itself.

    Am going to get one, far less complicated than my current method with various spirit levels and plum lines. Thanks for this video and the cant one. well explained.

    Nice simple little gadget there Nigel and love the grain on the Huntsman's stock.

      Hi HV. Yep. Simple... but oh-so useful! Tigerstriping isn't to everyone's taste in a gunstock, but it turns me on... and I was able to pick this one out as I actually collected my Regal from the factory, rather than the dealer. I've seen better, but I'm more than happy with mine... I certainly think twice about taking it out in rough conditions! ;)

      Yeah i can understand that my guns have more than the one war wound on them working around the cattle sheds.

      Ha - it's the close-quarters stuff that usually results in the 'ooooops' moments. That's why I usually take the 'less exotic' stuff when I'm controlling pests in and around the farmyard! It's such scenarios where I concede that synthetic stocks have a big practical advantage... ;)

    nice looking little bit of kit .
    I have a bubble level on my ultimate sporter but this could defo help with making sure the scope is set up right

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      I think a bubble somewhere on your rifle is essential, personally - I use them a lot. However, they're only of value if your rifle (and, thus, sighting system) is set perfectly true in the first place... so I see a lot of value in the Reticle Leveler. Thanks for commenting... Nige

    Plumb bob and a flashlight shining thru scope best ever!!

    What a cracking bit of kit ! I really like that idea. The amount of people who ask the best way to make sure their scope is level , I can just get one of these and they can use that ! Now the big question ... Where do you get them ?? It looks like just the USA ?? Anywhere in the UK at all ?

  • @angusread9333
    @angusread9333 7 років тому +2

    You could also just use a piece of string with a weight on one end and hang off something down range and then line up the piece of string with with the vertical cross hair.

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      angus read For sure - and that's how I always used to do it before I came across this gadget (you have to make sure you get the rifle 'uncanted' in the first place, of course). But this little device makes the job seriously less hassle...

  • @g.rustann4536
    @g.rustann4536 7 років тому

    Seems useful, but I don't get why it needs a bubble if it's used to level the scope to the rifle, because I can't see how that in itself ensures the scope is centred over the bore.
    The bubble must be for those cases when you've got a bubble level also on some flat part of the scope.

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому +1

      Thanks for your comment, and it's certainly a very good point. The (any) system HAS to assume that the mounts are good enough in the first place (which is why you should never buy cheapo mounts that don't 'centre' the telly over the centre-line). Assuming the mounts aren't wrong, the bubble is therefore essential to ensure the bore is in alignment... which will then allow you to align the scope's vertical crosshair.

      @AirgunTV  7 років тому +1

      Well done. Just make sure you use it before the Xmas fayre... using it afterwards and the crosshairs will still look a bit skewed. All 10 of them!!!!! :D Happy Christmas, Steven. ATB, Nige

    Whot is a scope on the spring airrifle?

  • @longbowdt
    @longbowdt 7 років тому

    for ensuring the scope is perfectly vertical, why not just use a plumb line against a plain sheet of paper, 10~20 yards away?? As long as the rifle is level, and the plumb line is clearly seen, aligning the scope in the vertical may be easier.

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому +2

      +longbowdt That's the 'old school' method- the Segway makes life a lot simpler... and can be kept very easily to hand.

    • @longbowdt
      @longbowdt 7 років тому +2

      Contest for results? Ask two good shooters to each try one method, same gun, indoors?

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому +3

      +longbowdt Both methods work... but I know which system will be quickest to get the result first!

  • @ianblackwell8874

    A great idea but I don't think this will be on my exmas list not at £25.:-(

    • @AirgunTV
      @AirgunTV  7 років тому

      Hi Ian. Yeah, I thought that, too... at least initially. Then once I'd used it once, I thought it was such an 'easy' system to set up a scope perfectly true, that I equated the cost to the number of times I'd probably use it... at which point it worked out rather a cheap addition to my kit bag. So I suppose its 'value' should be considered on the number of guns/scopes that you will set/re-set.
      (Mind you, even at £25, it's still only the price of a couple of tins of decent ammo - and given that it makes a huge difference to the consistency of downrange accuracy, I'd probably struggle to say it's priced 'too high'.)

      LOL. Yep. A little too far - Jn 26 of the M6 if I remember rightly? I used to visit Wigan a lot as a teenager (girlfriend) - well Orrell Post and partied all around 'Skem'. Halcyon days... And the Heinz 57 factory seems top pop into my recollections somewhere along the line. Oh, and of course The Pier!!!
