I think Prince was talented. i think Prince was an excellent guitarist. I think anyone who has a “ don’t make eye contact” rule is an egotist and a fool.
I honestly only like a handful of his songs, but I can't deny he was an amazing musical talent playing all those instruments and his incredible output.
For all of Prince's supposed "genius," I can only remember two or three of his songs (which I never go out of my way to listen to). It seems like he was a genius at writing lots of songs that weren't really very memorable... or maybe a genius at getting people to think he was a genius.
You clearly haven't heard a lot of popular music. He wasn't simply a genius at writing his own songs. He was a genius at writing other people's songs. You're telling me Nothing Compares 2 U, Manic Monday and I Feel For You, 'aren't memorable'? And they're just a selection of the ones he gave other people to record.
I think the same. Where are the good songs? Besides, he always showed very little respect to the songs he covered - actually, I guess he use to make fun of them, like he did with Radiohead's Creep. The only thing more unbearable than his sings and personality are his fans, at least in USA.
@@GregOrCreg ... No, I'm saying that he's incredibly over-rated, and that his purported "genius" is mostly a case of _The Emperor's New Clothes_ . Did he have a few good songs? Yeah, of course. But the people on this list produced *a lot* more memorable songs than Prince ever did.

Aside from the fact that he was a genuinely gifted all round musician, I honestly never got the ‘genius’ tag or thought his songs were particularly good. Arragance is the most obvious sign of insecurity (fear) and of course they mirror each other. I liked Price and bought his albums unquestioned from the very first right up until I didn't.
I went to a Rick James concert specifically to see Prince open the show. Prince had just released his second album. I had seen him on some late night music show, I don't remember which one, so I knew who he was (nobody else did). Anyway, after Prince's set, I watched the first song or two by Rick James, then left. Sinead kept drastically changing her story. I just chalked it up to her being an addict. Now I think maybe some serious mental illness lent a hand to her claims.
Michael Jackson was a performer, not a musician. Prince was a musician, and some think maybe the greatest guitarist ever. This puts him on another level. Michael seemed to have had, uh, issues (say no more, say no more). Prince was a highly intelligent and a spiritual dude. But he had his flaky side too. The fact he he was a Jehovah's Witness really kind of speaks for himself. He also seemed to be a narcissistic control freak. Eventually he became so enmeshed in his own little fantasy world he constructed around himself, and surrounded by toxic parasites and enablers of various substances, he lost touch with reality. And then fentanyl did him in. Doesn't take much.
I used to see Prince standing on the corner outside Rudolph's BBQ on Franklin & Lyndale Aves in Mpls, staring up at the streetlight across from the Minnesota Society for the Blind --- with all due respect and not knowing him, I thought he was a pimp. I can't say now one way or another whether I liked him or disliked him --- who cares? He made great music.
The most "brilliant" thing he did was to convince people that he was a genius without being a genius. But it was probably not him who was a genius but fools who believed it. Prince copied from others. He was not a genius. And he was not honest either.
