If he had, the Foo Fighters sound would be a lot different I’ll tell you that. His unique style was the backbone of the Nirvana sound and Nirvana would not have been what is was without him.
For the sake of accuracy, Molly’s Lips is by a band called The Vaselines and covered by Nirvana on Incesticide. The band was cited as inspiration by Mr. Cobain
Krist is doing just fine with the Nirvana money. I understand why the band would have just been looked at as trying to cash in on Nirvana if they began the band with basically the same exact lineup.
I do wonder if it was really mutual. I have questions about Dave. Anyway, Krist has done just fine. Super-cool dude and I love his bass sound. For those still reading this...check out 3rd Secret if you have not already. Excellent collaboration/music.
Really a slap in the face, for the drummer to be part of the causation, for nirvanas' implosion. Then to "hire" krist?! It's a demotion. Oh so now Dave's the boss, money distribution wise, Foo players are all hired hands, they receive no royalities, except, radio and performance. While Dave gets all royalty categories. (5 categories)
There's actually 6 categories, and the other members do get streaming royalties. It's not unusual for a bands songwriter to earn more royalties than other members, that's the norm. Paul McCartney earns a lot more royalties than Ringo. The other guys are also not just hired hands, they do record and participate in bringing the song to life. They come up with their own parts. Of course it's Dave's band, he's the front man, he's the singer, he's the songwriter, but that situation isn't unusual, he was on the other side of it in Nirvana.
There are lots of scams in the music business, such as with any business; its up to the individual to ensure they have credentials to qualify, are treated well, and earn what they’re worth. If a person can do a job themselves but hires you, trains you and covers expenses/losses/legalities themselves… that person deserves to be paid most. Highly qualified participants have to be sure they’re paid highly or leave for another job. Its really basic stuff. As said above, the band members earn well and contribute…Im sure its all great and above board but if not then the band members are willing participants despite it. 🤷🏻♂️
I always thought in the beginning that Grohl Capitalized using Nirvana as a jumping board. Personally, I think FF is mediocre at best, But, to each there own.
The Color and Shape had some really good stuff on it.... then every song became Dave yelling at you for the entire song... the same song over and over. (He does seem like a nice guy though).
Krist joined them on stage in Buffalo in 2011 too. I was at the show and it's a moment I'll never forget. Dave explained that he and Krist were together the night before in NYC for the 30 th anniversary of Nevermind. It was an incredible show and also the only time the foos ever in played Buffalo.
His last name is pronounced with a hard -K not a -CH. Never ever heard anybody say Krist's that way knowingly since the band became popular. Understand,Kurt and Krist before Dave came along. Dave also had a lot of creative ideas which did not penetrate the Kurt-Krisr bubble and he wasn't exactly thrilled with that. When they added Pat Smear to round out their sound, he was even more of an outsider with even less say so. If Dave and Krist kept Nirvana together fans would have seen it as less of a cash grab than what Courtney did with her band Hole. But I doubt it would have lasted too long, because of the two Dave was much more motivated, less of a slacker and more talented all around which I don't think would have set well with Krist's ego. Because Dave's talents were overlooked in the band , Foo Fighters was seen initially as a cash grab by him. However,FF's sound was only vaguely Nirvana-esque and it didn't take long for fans to accept that it was its own act. I'd say that Dave has surpassed Kurt's contributions in many ways.
I seen Krist play 6 songs with the Foo Fighters once on the color and the shape tour when Nate, their bassist, was sick. Beck bassist filled in for 3 songs, and Krist did the rest of the show. This show was Deck the Hall Ball by 107.7 the end radio station out Seattle WA in Dec of 97.
This comment section does contain a fiercely competitive tournament to make the worst nonsense about rock music that they could. Oh well. That’s common. But whatever… Back in the day, I was hoping Dave and Krist we do something cool together. Whether it be Krist joining Foo Fighters or not? And while I’m not sad, they didn’t do it that way. I don’t think it would have hurt my feelings any. However, the real issue these days is that they’re just simply isn’t enough guitar driven rock music being made anymore. And the solution is for people to be inspired and act on that inspiration. That’s what we really need. In 2025 let’s bring back rock ‘n’ roll music to the world. Make America Grunge Again!
always though Dave was just trying to get past it and out from under the cliche of it all, it's like we all had a weird post "grunge" hangover and it was hard to shake. anyway it was a confusing and painful time and I though Dave and the guys done a hell of a job, that was one hell of a thing to overcome .

It was no "group" after Kurt passed away. And Dave is not that good at writing songs, as Kurt were. Foo Fighters is ok, but I will never pay to see them live.
Well, it's still a cash in, isn't it. Whether Krist was involved or not. Cobain didn't just die, he was ...., and it just seems Grohl has truly benefitted the most from it. Not to say he's capitalised, but you know that man knows what went down. And what went down was a crime and injustice. But as long as everyone's making the money, ain't no one going to say a word about it, til they're either on their way out, or they're pressured into doing so.
Also it was really Kurts bands he had peeps where he wanted them Dave wasnt the drummer guy anymore and may have had other ideas on how he wanted the Rhythm section to sound since he was now on Vocals and Guitar mostly. On top of that he needed songwriting collaborators he is not the song writing machine Kurt was.

I ain't the biggest Foo fan but Grohl was/is infinitely better than Cobain ever was, especially @ singin, Kurt was an awful singer & they were more hype than anything. Just like how the beatles w/o Martin would've never made it into a recording studio or outside of Europe. 💯
actually, he would have been perfect. He did what ever he was told to do. He was a bass player who just played the root notes of the songs or outlined the guitar melody, he would have been perfect for the foo fighters.
Krist wrote some amazing bass lines. To say he just played the root notes is doing him an injustice. Yes, there were some songs where they basically doubled each other, but he also wrote some really great parts. Do a deep dive of listening to his isolated tracks. He was all over the place. Like Lithium, where he did the walk down during the verses, while playing the 5ths over the C and D chords. There was also the bridge part, that had that sweet bluesy walking line. Lounge Act’s bass line is a moving riff, while the guitar plays simple power chords. Even songs like Sliver were much more than just simple root notes. He had fills and notes in-between the roots that colored the song. In Hairspray Queen they never play the same part. Even simple things like Dive, where he goes to the D, while Kurt plays a G5, just added a lot of personality. Drain You’s chorus has some amazing fills in it. I could go on. I mean, there were parts on the first FF album that could’ve easily been right up his alley. That moving part underneath the verse chords in Big Me, or even the repetitive licks during the verses of I’ll Stick Around, while the guitar chords change, those sound like something he would’ve done.
