わがうたは
[My songs I sing you,]
かなしきいのり
[They are my lonely prayer.]
若き日の過失(あやまち)に似たり
[Sad, foolish poems,　　Youth's hopes and youth's despair.]
風ふける
[A poet singing]
ちまたに立ちて
[All in the wind and rain.]
うたふうた
[If you will hear me]
君よきかずや
[My songs are not in vain.]
2. 孤独とは [Loneliness]
赤き金魚は
[O little red goldfish]
小さなる瓶のなかに
[A-swimming there in your small glass bowl,]
秋風を聴きぬ
[O do you hear the autumn wind?]
色どりもかなしく
[Alas, you scarlet is for sadness,]
ただ一匹にて
[All alone, without a mate,]
ぐるぐると弧を描く
[Swimming in circles,　　Round and round all day.]
時にはまた
[Every now and then,]
ガラスに寄り添ひ
[You come quite close to the glass.]
知らざる世界を
[O tell me, what do you seek to know]
覗かんとするか
[Of the world beyond your ken,]
金魚は
[O little fish]
ひねもす泳ぐなり
[A-swimming there all the day long?]
3. ひぐらし [Cicadas]
日暮れ
[Cicadas]
ひぐらし
[at close of day,]
ひぐれに哭く
[Sadly they cry, and shrill]
ひとひ空しく
[In vain, one more day has gone]
むなしく暮れて
[And I am desolate still.]
夕焼
[And in the crimson]
わが掌(て)を
[sunset glow]
かなしく染めぬ
[My heart is full of sorrow.]
日暮れ
[Cicadas]
ひぐらし

ひぐれに聞く
[Sadly, they cry, and shrill.]
4. 追悼歌 [Requiescat]
兵士たちに
[Alas! for the soldier]
明日はなかつた
[there was no tomorrow.]
十字架は祈念(いのり)であり
[The Cross was his one salvation and his prayer,]
希みであつた
[Was all he had to hope for.]
死は明るく匂ひ
[And death was sweet;]
祖国は海を遙かに千里
[So far across the ocean, So far from home and country.]
草と共に君は伏して
[Amid the grasses you fell, my friend,]
とはに動かなかつた
[Never to rise again.]
戦場よさらば
[O battlefield farewell!]
雲のうへ
[Beyond the blue sky, above the clouds,]
魂は果なく昇つた
[Your soul went on forever.]
陽はそののちも
[And the sun, forever after,]
限りない美しさであつた
[was filled with beauty!]
5. 紫陽花 [Hydrangeas]
そのひととめぐりも逢はず
[My love and I shall never meet again]
そのひとと語らふを得ず
[My love and I shall ne'er discourse again,]
あはれけふも
[Alas, alas. And yet, even so,]
紫陽花の花は咲くなり
[The hydrangea is blossoming still.]
七月の陽もくるめき
[O radiant July, how can you sparkle so?]
そのひととめぐりも逢はず
[My love has gone, and I am full of woe.]
紫陽花の花は咲くなり

"Waga Uta (My Songs)" is a song cycle composed in 1947 for five poems by Fuyuichiro Kitayama from his collection "Shukukonka," and was first performed by Tamotsu Kinoshita, who is singing on this record.
It is one of his early songs, following "Six Songs for Children" and "Five Fragments," and is often sung along with "Four Poems by Sakutaro Hagiwara," which was written the next year. While the impressionistic technique and other tonal effects were prominent in his previous work, "Five Fragments," the concise writing style of this collection shows a high level of prestige and is neatly organized.
―1. My Songs
Based on the key of G-flat major, it is a monologue of the heart with a subdued flavor, except for the five-beat middle section.
―2. Loneliness
A goldfish swimming in an arc is represented by broken chords on the piano, and a breathless melody of paired three and two beats is sung.
―3. Cicadas
A piano prelude depicting dusk is followed by a brief but deeply emotional melody, interrupted by the cry of a cicadas.
―4. Requiescat
Accompanied by a heavy funeral march-like rhythm, the lyrical tune is told as if a trumpet were being played.
―5. Hydrangeas
A moving finale with an image of vivid hydrangea flowers blooming in the July sun.

　この曲は1947年、北山冬一郎の詩集祝婚歌より「序のうた」「孤独とは」「ひぐらし」「追悼歌」「紫陽花」の5篇を選んで作曲された歌曲集で、このレコードで歌われている木下保氏によって初演されている。
　「六つの子供のうた」や「五つの断章」に続く彼の歌曲としては初期に属する作品であるが、翌年に書かれた「萩原朔太郎に依る四つの詩」と並んでよく歌われている曲集である。前作の「五つの断章」では印象主義的手法を中心にした音色的効果が目立っていたが、この曲集では、簡潔な書法が格調の高さを見せ、すっきりとまとめ上げられている。
―1. 序のうた
　変ト長調を基調として、中間部の5拍子の部分を除けば、落ちついた趣を備えている心の独白である。
―2. 孤独とは
　金魚が弧を描いて泳いでいる様子がピアノの分散和音で表され、3拍子と2拍子が対になった息の長い旋律が歌われていく。
―3. ひぐらし
　夕暮れを描写するピアノの前奏から始まり、ひぐらしの鳴き声をはさんで、簡潔だが深い情緒を秘めたメロディーが続く一篇の風景画。
―4. 追悼歌
　重々しい葬送行進曲風のリズムを伴奏に、まるでトランペットでも吹くような叙事的な調べが語られていく。
―5. 紫陽花
　七月の陽を受けて咲き誇る、鮮やかなあじさいの花がイメージアップされる感動的なしめくくり。

　木下保は作品演奏に際して「けっきょくは作曲家と演奏家の信頼度の差から判断して、事に当たらなければならないことを悟った」と述べている。・・・
・・・また若い作曲家に対してもその信頼度の高さは公平であった。その筆頭が團である。歌曲演奏は勿論であるが、何より《夕鶴》への思い入れが突出していた。[...]その木下を團は「狭い意味での日本主義に立脚した日本の心ではなく、世界に眼を向け、世界を知った上での日本の心の表現であるところが、木下先生の力強さであり、魅力であり、深さなのである」「各時代、日本に欠けていた最も重大な分野を、先生は埋めて行く難しい仕事に挺身され続けて来られたと言える」と的確に評価していたが、その後の團の歌曲や合唱作品作曲の姿勢は、木下との出会いと協業があってこそ構築されたもののように思える。
