The Road Trips are arguably the best part of the channel! Good to see Alyssa once again as well.
Some of my favorite OoS videos have been the Kyle and Alyssa roadtrips.....the old videos being in the Model 3. Definitely no room for the dogs in the Polestar.
Love these Alyssa and Kyle road-trips! You guys are genuinely perfect together :)
Love these road trips, love how Kyle is babying the Polestar 😅 Alyssa at less than 4k RPM "Are you trying to blow up the engine?" 😂😂
So happy to see how your relationship with Alyssa has improved since that short Porsche gal intermezzo
Wait...what?!
I miss Anna
You guys are such a great pair! Love your videos Alyssa and Kyle!
Based on what we’ve learned with our XC90 Recharge, the PHEV engines are designed to withstand the frequent on/off cycles. We were told the best approach is to leave the car in Hybrid setting and let the system do its thing optimizing power and efficiency. It also learns your driving style. In my profile it keeps the engine on more because I accelerate harder. When my husband drives it stays in EV because he accelerates like a 100 year old nun.
As a longtime Volvo/Polestar fan, that spec of Polestar 1 is simply beautiful. One of the nicest looking cars on the road in my opinion.
Yes, and the Polestar 1 interior looks much better than the Polestar 2 or Polestar 3 interiors, as Polestar unfortunately transitions to crappy Tesla-like interiors.
We see Polestars at the EA chargers. They always look so good. Seem to take much longer to charge.
lol you guys took me, the vegetarian, there 😂
Best part of the OOS world of videos are the road trips w/Alyssa.
(1:22:40) ... wasn't this the same weekend as the Porsche Monterey meet? That's probably why you see so many 911s parked downtown there. Alyssa was a completely different person on this trip from any video I've ever seen before -- much more talkative and lively and upbeat. Did something change?
Also, regarding your negative comments about PHEVs, Kyle: we have two of them now (XC60 T8 ER; RAV4 Prime), and they are perfect for us. It's not a question of carrying extra battery weight or engine weight for us; we get better highway long-roadtrip mileage than we did in any of our ICEVs, and we drive about 50-65% of our total miles (locally) in all-electric, with an average out-of-town roadtrip once a month that makes having the ICE worthwhile. I still hold that PHEVs are the natural bridge between ICEVs and BEVs for most people, and that PHEVs will become much more popular and have much higher sales in the coming decade. I'd take that Polestar 1 battery pack any day in my PHEVs!!! I'd vastly prefer 65-70 miles of all-electric range over the 50 miles that we get from our RAV4 Prime! In my opinion, 40-45 miles is the minimum practical real-world range for all-electric driving to make PHEVs really useful and practical.
Love love love these roadtrips with you guys!!!! So nice to see. Keep it up the good content!!!
Great video Kyle. I find it interesting that you talk about carrying around the battery pack during a trip, but don't mention that 99% of the time you're carrying around an ICE and fuel tank for no reason as well.
Keep up the awesome work!
This was so good to watch. Well done guys ❤️
Are Kyle and Alyssa back together? I’m so confused.
You drive to California like you are going to the grocery store. Crazy
I drove from Sacramento to Monterey, I miss living down there, and it was far enough to drive for car week. Road trips are rare, especially long road trips for most people, so a BEV is generally ok, but a PHEV is a good alternative. That turn off in Santa Nella has a new Tesla Supercharger expansion at the Oso hotel there by that Panda Express.
Great content, and thanks for what you do. You saw two signs for the continental divide because you were going across the Great Divide Basin. A section of the continental divide where it splits in two. Within the basin in the Red Desert there, the water only drains into the basin. And wyoming being wyoming, much of the water just evaporates off. The couple inches that falls there. Just a simple thing I thought I'd share. I grew up in Wyoming and lived there for about 30 years. I respect that you like Rock Springs, but that's a no thank you for me. Haha.😂
Alyssa is the best. So good to see her taking part in the road trip.
Fuel icon is a pump and usually has a hose or an arrow on the same side where the fuel door is ;) in this case, right side :p I love this car, it just looks awesome and the sound deadening seems impecable.
I love how the the watch strap matches the seatbelt
I also hate cold starting the car, but also don't forget that the majority of damage/wear happens in the first thousand miles. If I bought a new car and planned on keeping it for a very long time, I'd change the oil and filter when the odometer hits 1,000 then 2,000 and then 5,000 miles.
Not sure if you are doing this or not, but yeah, hybrids need a way to keep the oil warm, maybe a heated sump should be looked into?
My first trip to California was in Oct 2011. I was at a resort about a mile from downtown Caramel by the Sea. Even then, that place was a Mecca for high performance & exotic cars. Right we’re you guys parked, has the best sunsets in the world. Bonus. The Monterey aquarium, though small, is amazing.
Also did you notice, they’re no street lights (poles in the ground) in that little area.
01:00:00 super cool, looking forward to this new series hahahha
Great to see you two on the road together again. But man, 28:25 cracked windshield already ? Colorado rocks don’t play.
Love road trip videos!
Interesting thought on the time you spend charging. You always hear people talk about range. Almost never about the time you spend charging. To me the range is second factor. I admit the long range would be nice, but I also want fast charging. When you can charge a car as fast as you fill up with gasoline or diesel that’s when it becomes interesting to me. Yes PHEV are terrible regarding range compared to the full EV. But I have to disagree about PHEV on road trips. Yes they will never have EV range factor, but on a daily basis the EV range usually enough for daily commuting. But on those long road trips across USA/CA or AUS or Europe when you’re going on summer vacation or holidays the gasoline engine is nice to have when you have little to no charging stations along the highway or freeway
Wow. Did not know they pressurize fuel tanks for PHEVs but totally makes sense. While I think the Polestar 1 is a very cool car, I don't see how PHEVs are a good long term option if you plan to keep the car more than a couple years with all the added things in them like a pressurized fuel tank lol. Will need to swing in and check out Still Whiskey steaks next time I'm in the Denver area.
35:28 I see that Stradman reference!!
Kyle lol calmate on the plug-in hybrid engine preservation 😅 it gets a bit much.
We frequesnt Fort Collins so keep the restaurant recommendations coming.
Trailering is the other reason I don't want to ditch my Fusion phev. ~70 mpg in town. 32 mpg trailering on the interstate to pick up a BMW subframe in California.
I estimate my Hyundai Hybrid (HEV not PHEV) engine has started ~36 thousand times in the past 6 years. Still starts no issue and starts very quick and quietly but makes me wonder how long it could go. All city driving, low milage, etc. The car will rust or break way before any reasonable number of miles due to basically no highway.
Green River Coffee location could use a functional DCFC! 😝
Blankets, pillows and dogs is how my girls roll too.
Love your videos my dude, best way to stay informed about the EV industry.
Is the strip of light across y’all’s eyes the HUD?
I expect that is reflection from the rear view mirror.
Would you ever own a BMW 530e? Would love to see a roadtrip with that
Nice car dude 😊
This is going to be one epic farm, with lots of EV's and I am sure even more dogs.
4:25 casually forgets the Range Rover from Florida 😂
crazy on the mall cop situation!
Why does the engine constantly turning on and off again cause a long term reliability problem? It’s designed for it.
Stunning views 33 mins in
since this car have CCS, would it make sense to fast change it on a road trip?
8:13 "dono" 🤣 on to the next
Rock Springs, Wyoming is underrated 😆
Do a video for ev trip all appss, gadgets you use. Eg: windy, teslafy,.. Share plug,..
Love your road trip videoes. Say no to diesel trucks, lol.
So weird hearing Kyle talk about my home town of Gilroy.
I love garlic.
Are you here at OverlandExpo? I see your truck?
Since both 76 and Chevron are Top Tier certified gasolines, it's a no-brainer going for price.
The rivian was totally unlock the doors popped open when you guys left LOL
would you be considering buying a bmw xm?
I did Detroit to Seattle in three days. Filled up three times. Had several legs with over 700 miles on a tank. That was my first long trip in my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
I agree that PHEVs are poor EVs, and weak Hybrids..
love the polestar one- a future classic, shame it wasnt pure EV or a fuel cell vehicle
My offer for free dinner and drinks for the two of you at the Reserve by Old Elk (my tenant) is still good! Just got notice my R1S is coming next month!
“Our“ hotel room? Ooh La La! If you were in a relationship, do you think your new girlfriend would want you staying in the same hotel room as your ex girlfriend on a multi day road trip? I didn’t watch the whole video or look at the dialogue, but maybe this means they’re together romantically. I hope so. Everyone deserves to be happy if it’s good for both of them. If they are still broken up, but they have a separate, ongoing, mature friendship, then that’s really nice too.
REALLY interested in this car, by man, I don't have AN HOUR AND A HALF to kill to watch. Love you content, just REALLY wish it was condensed into 30 minute videis.
I'm just goofin... new boot goofin.
Ok thanks for the warning about the menu options when I visit. Surely there’s a 🥗 that they can leave off the meat for us veg*ns 😢 Great classic OOSR road trip video!❤
This gives me NFS *HEAT* vibes. :)
Love that you're plugging in at the gas pump! LOL
50:57 😻
8:30 the rivian is unlocked?!
Kyle and Alyssa are so kind, giving local homeless people shelter while they are away 😂
Will the engine charge the battery?
You can set it to charge the battery, or hold the battery at a certain level of charge, or let the battery run until it's dead
Better roadtripping PHEV-- get a Pacficia PHEV. 7 vehicle and ton of luggage space and 30+mpg on interstate.
I'm only half way through this video but curious. is Polestar built different from Volvo? I have an S60 with the 11.6kwh battery. I've ran it to "empty" and charged it up and the stations I charged up at always gives me a summary saying I've charged 7.5-8.5kwh and then i use the app to compare and I usually see something like 9-10kwh used but like 2kwh regen. So does this mean, at least with my car, the actual usable is far lower than the published 11.6 and there is probably some pretty larger buffer on the top and bottom? I've spoken with a couple of Volvo engineers and although they wont give me specific numbers, they are telling me not to worry about charging to 100% or depleting the battery. IF my hypothesis is correct, I wonder if the polestar 1 is also designed in the same way.
I have a volvo s60 as well with the same battery and based on my research and own driving it seems like volvo only let's you use 70% of the advertised battery. My guess is that they leave a 10% buffer on the bottom even when the instrument gauge reads its empty and a 20% buffer up top even when it reads 100% on the gauge. This would make it to where you would never have to worry about fully draining or full charging the battery.
Every manufacturer does this
31:30 why was Kyle talking shit to Alyssa for beating on a car with a warranty?
Was wondering the same... like she barely even crested 3k RPMs lmao
600hp AND 30 mpg running 10 over? WOW
i have 360 hp and get 15-16 mpg 10 over 😬😬
Oh its a Volvo in disguise 😁
This guy reminds me of Peter Griffin with a southern accent.
Your "fast charging" gas car comments are funny. lol.
Psa: Wyoming cops fund their towns by ticketing coloradoans. Its sport for them. More than once ive gotten tickets for going 7mph over.
Facts I never speed in Ohio or Wyoming those states are insanely over policed on the highway
I just drove with my family from seeing friends in CO back to WA and drove 90 on I-80 the hole way through Wyoming, didn't see one officer the whole way.

Some AAA maps and guidebooks stress towns that are traffic citation funded.

First off, first comment. Second! ive been watching this on twitter!! Excited for the full vid!

Ceramic coating the engine exterior, turbo and some internals, maybe even the exhaust might increase mpg.
De-rated fueling session haha
Blink charge never a good experience. Slow and expensive and can be fussy.
PHEVs are dumb compromises. You buy a car for the few times that you actually road trip, but in fact it spends 99% of its lifetime in city traffic. So buy the car according to your average usage and accept the little longer stops the few times you really roadtrip. This car is so heavy as it has to pull two entire drive trains and therefore has this bad efficiency…
Instead of reviewing a $100K+ PHEV, Kyle could review the affordable Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV.
Other than Tim Cook, kyle might be the only Apple maps user in the world.

Gas, it's the way of the future xD. Unless we get Trump back in and federal energy policy brings costs down, we're going to eventually get to the point where gas is convenient, but you'll have to pay a major premium for that convenience it seems. But then again the fees and cost of ownership along with up front costs to BEVs aren't getting much better either.
这是最好看的Polestar,Polestar2和polestar3都不好看
