I feel that the Lost kingdom is designed to grow on the player as they come back to it. The player may be annoyed on their first play through that they have to spend time there and just collect moons, but when you come back to it you realise the true greatness of the kingdom. It’s personally my 2nd favourite medium sized kingdom just below Cascade
I think thats also in part because the first time around you're playing for the story so when you just get stopped in your tracks to collect moons to get back to progressing the story you can be slightly annoyed but on subsequent playthroughs you play solely for the sake of the game part making you less frustrated and more likely to enjoy it
One thing about this kingdom that also adds to the feeling of "go wherever" is that in Assist Mode, after you kill Klepto, the arrow and path that you usually see disappears
An additional fun thing about its aesthetic is that the music is in 11/16, a very unusual time signature. It has a lot of repetition, but it's kept less stale by how disorienting it feels because of that time signature. I've been playing music for years now, and it took me looking up a piano transcription of it to figure out exactly what's going on. Fits the lost kingdom perfectly, leaving me feeling lost.
@@osberswgaming If I had a bunch of spare time, I'd probably transcribe a bunch of themes like that. I bet nintendo has a thing for forested levels and odd time signatures (just ignore wooded kingdom being in straight up 4/4).
I like the little detail that you can see the Islands underneath your travel path when you select to go to Metro for the first time. Really adds to the vibe of getting lost.
Iceberg: When you use the Neon Lights filter in photo mode, Power Moons have the same colors as the sun, both of which are accurate to the real neon colors that a celestial body would give off, implying that Power Moons are basically just little pieces of sunlight
This is easily my favorite medium sized kingdom and comes close to my favorite kingdom in general. It takes a nice jump in difficulty as I think the insta-death poison was a really good addition to making the platforming have high stakes. Also, the tropical wiggler transform is so fun and satisfying to traverse with. And as you mentioned, it being not on the map at first and not touched by bowser makes it so cool and unique. This level is what made me really love odyssey before Metro Kingdom solidified that love.
you don't understand, i fell in love with smo the moment i played it, and got more and more obsessed as i learned more about the secrets and the sheer amount of detail that nintendo put into just about everything. these level by level videos are my absolute favorite, especially the smo ones!
I love your videos for one major reason:you keep your video funny, serious, and entertaining at the same time. Every time you upload is a good day to me. Thank you so much for every day entertaining.
The ruined kingdom sub areas are my favorite in the game. Whenever I go to ruined kingdom post game those moons are amazing I just wish the level was bigger…
that's something i kinda wish wasn't there until the postgame. i understand the need for a shop for the purple coins but i feel like it takes away from it being some random forgotten uncolonized island. feel like it would make a lot more sense that after you beat bowser and everyone starts visiting everywhere that some toads decide to open a shop there, kinda like how there's no shop or even moons in cap kingdom until after you beat the game (or just the story for that one, idk point still stands). captain toad in that secret area makes a lot more sense because he's always in random weird locations and it's pretty funny that he'd end up there. the cap store doesn't ruin the immersion too much tho, it definitely still feels lost
Iceberg lettuce, also known as crisphead lettuce, has pale green leaves and grows in cabbage-like bulbs. It grows best in cool climates and requires a long winter season to grow fully. Lettuce and other leafy greens make up an important part of a healthy diet.
For the iceberg video, do you have the fact that Sarassaland elements were in concept art? I also think that the solution to the "puzzles" that have you look at objects through a telescope to get a moon are probably deserving of being placed in the second layer - that's something a lot of casual players wouldn't learn! Ooh, and what about putting on some trivia about the New Donk City stage in Smash Ultimate.
Lost has always been my favorite kingdom aesthetically. The contrast between the somewhat muted ground contrasted with the vibrant plants and poison has always looked super cool to me. And the unique look of the plants and environment coupled with the wired yet cute tropical wigglers always makes me think of a Dr.Suess book, defiantly a banger kingdom.
Lost Kingdom is in my top 3 from Odyssey. The design, the music and the terrain are all unique plus it's got wigglers what more could you want?... Oh yeah Klepto 😅
i love how the platforming is ingrained into the actual kingdom rather than being mostly open areas leaving the big platforming to sub areas. after playing mario odyssey for the first time recently, lost is my 2nd favorite kingdom after metro ofc which also has a lot of platforming in the actual level.
As someone who's not a big fan of Odyssey, this is by far my favourite kingdom. The atmosphere is amazing and it feels tight and focused compared to most of the rest. It's the one that feels the most like a natural evolution of a 64 level to me.
iceberg: just kidding i just wanted you to see my comment so that i can say: theres about how you said that this series is finally something that YOU wanted to do that makes this entire series more memorable and interesting.. and i'm glad you're having just as much fun making these videos as we are watching them 😁😁
Iceberg: I'm not sure if it will count but racing koopas to the top of the mountain to get a moon is like in sm64 where u you race a koopa to the top of a mountain to get a star. It looks like yet another referance.
It's still my 4th favorite kingdom because of its environment. Right behind Cascade, Luncheon, and Seaside. (Don't worry, I like the metro kingdom a lot, don't get mad at me.)
Iceberg: there is a trick in super Mario Odyssey known as platform clip, which saves almost 10 seconds in any%. what you may not know is that you can do this platform clip to clip into the platform perpendicular to the one used. This is completely useless but pretty cool
For a long time, this was even my favorite kingdom. There was this huge build-up tl the Metro Kingdom, and when playing i didn't knew about this kingdom existance and holy cow. it pretty much made me forget about Metro, the isolation of Lost felt so idyllic that i wanted to explore every part of it before i went forward (i'd still say Lost > Metro but that wasn't the point of the comment)
Iceberg: unused logo without cappy’s eyes in the trailer right before they reveal that Mario’s cap is sentient. (The unused logo appears in the Nintendo switch presentation 2017 trailer)
No way, Ruined Kingdom is more forgotten. Lost Kingdom has a lot more life in it, and Ruined Kingdom doesn't even have Captain Toad. Other than that, I like the video
This is something that confuses me. How does the water terrain work? Is the poison closed off from the rest of the world? Is there a barrier between the sea and the poison?
I also think that the Wooded and Lost Kingdoms have different climates as well. Wooded Kingdoms looks like it has a more temperate alpine climate, while Lost Kingdom is more tropical.
Ironic that the kingdom called Lost Kingdom gets lost in the sauce that is Mario Odyssey's kingdoms. I honestly really remember Lost Kingdom mostly because of the music and I was so set on going to New Donk City, that it caught me off gaurd that I ended up somewhere else. Definitely a welcome surprise though
Iceberg: If you jump on enough enemies like the yellow Goombas without touching the ground you can get a heart, just like in the NSMB games only you get a 1up. Another thing, you can use the Metal Mario suit and cap to go in the Mario 64 area in the Mushroom Kingdom.
Iceberg: Mecha Wiggler is obviously a mechanized Wiggler, but the localization slightly obscures that Torkdrift is a mechanized Spindrift, from Mario 64. Ya know, "spin", "torque", get it. The Japanese name Meka Fuwafuwa-san basically just calls it Mecha Spindrift, though more literally the name means something like Mecha Mr. Fluffy.
quick correction klepto appears in mario party 4 as a ride (i played that game a TON as a kid so i recognized that bird right away. i even double checked and wiki says it's Klepto)
Super Mario Odyssey's Level Design is SO wonderfully crafted. Every Kingdom feels like an actual place and are fun to explore! [except Corrin Kingdom (yes, I'm calling Cloud Kingdom this), that level sucks]
Did any body know that the game gives you a big challenge in lost kingdom? It's getting all 10 moons without cappy and trying to get the moon shards without cappy is so hard
Yeah, I'd say that Lake Kingdom is the only "bad" level in this game. It's just a generic water level. Not only is that not original to the series, it's not even original to this game as there is also Seaside Kingdom, which is far more interesting and memorable. Lake also has the least amount of story (besides Lost) as it's just a Rango fight, then you're done. I wish that they'd have done more with it.
11:14 🤓 AAACCTTUUALLLY, Klepto does actually reappear in the Mario party series and a couple of the sports games. but since they are mostly just cameos I can kinda understand the thinking he didn't return after 64 until Odyssey.
I came up with a level by level idea. The Mysterious Dimension in Smash World of Light. It has this eerie vibe and no lore whatsoever, similar to the Wet Dry World episode.
2 facts that I found that you didn't find in Mario odyssey. 1, with all the medal related outfits, such as the medal Mario outfit, and your 2nd least favorite outfit,(I have no idea what the name is) makes a medal sound when you throw it at something or if you bounce on it. 2, if you keep jumping on the globe on the odyssey, it will make a song, (find it out!)
Iceberg: using a glitch you can get the metro kingdom letters out of their boundary using this and another glitch you can get the r.c. car out of its cage or sitting on top of a letter you can get the jump rope high score
I feel that the Lost kingdom is designed to grow on the player as they come back to it. Oh yeah. I just wanted to get to the Metro kingdom already lol
Weird, hated it at first when playing for story, then I started running it over and over and Lost Kingdom is so fun to run
Can confirm: Lost and wooded look preeeeety similar when you close your eyes
Does it almost feel like nothing changed at all
@@Pk-glitch it almost feels like i've been there before

Interesting. I’d like to analyse different kingdom themes from Odyssey. I was also surprised to learn that MK8 Wild Woods’s music is in 5/8
Huh weird, I always though it was 11/8
@@fuhbox Yeah, you could also write it that way. It's just the version I saw, lol.

The sun is also a star, so are Power moons just weirdly shaped power stars?
Well every other kingdom on the planet but the Mushroom Kingdom uses Moons, so Stars might just be weirdly shaped Moons

Lost Kingdom was so much fun when I first played the game, and like you said, it really sold the feeling of being “lost!”
This level has the best song of the game. And the 8 bit version is incredible
