I hope you are having a good week! =) Scully's reel is a really neat tune that can is sometimes played in more of a hornpipe way. You can play it like a straight reel, too, but there's something haunting about playing it slower and more as a hornpipe that I really like. The C# also makes it more of a harmonic-minor tune and adds a spooky vibe. It's a great tune to add in the beginning of a set if you want to pick up some speed with reels later, or even if you play it as a straight reel in a set.
To play it in A minor (I think that's a more common key that it's played in), all you need to do is move up a string (or move up a fifth if you are playing with a different string tuning or a capo).
I'm in the process of moving again, so I've been swimming in boxes and packing materials. Moving is always really tiring, but also exciting at the same time. Once all of this craziness settles down, I really want to get back into the swing of posting a lot more videos! ^_^
Thank you for watching, and I hope you have a good rest of the week! =)

Thank you for teaching me this tune. I'd never heard it before today. Somehow your 'by ear' tutorials always stick in my memory really well, better than teaching by any other channel😇
...and a fine singing voice too. 😊
Thank you Katy, for this wonderful tune! Sounds similar to "King of the Fairies".
Thank you Katy!! I have been with my violin since the late 80's I was taught by ear!! My professor was amazing!! I love when you tell the notes first💎💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝🎻🎶🎼🎹🎻🎶🎻🎶🎻🎶
I really like this tune as a hornpipe!
Love the metronome. Hope you keep using that. Great camera split.
I just started Violin and found you, love your music! Right down my alley! :D
Thank you so much for doing by-ear tutorials.
👏 👍 Thank you Katy! One of the nice things about fiddle tunes is that they all sound just as nice on my concertina and harmonica as they do on my violin with added "feeling, phrasing, vibrato and all that good stuff" as the Fiddlerman would say. 😉 🎻 🎶
Thank you very much for share this wonderful video with lessons tunes by fiddle. Marvelous, Kate. I'm not a musician but I love so much listen sounds tunes by fiddles. Many blessings and a lot of love to you.

Thank you Katy, I love your tutorials.
Would you please possibly do a tutorial for gravel walk, or sailors wife.
Nice tune I will learn on guitar
انت رائعة , شكرا لك
It sounds a lot like "king of the fairies". Are you sure it isn't a variation of that theme ? :) congrats for the evolution of your channel
pls play the red river jig i wanna see you play it... it’s almost like my life depends on it
Please can you add sheet music.
Is it cheating if i just play king of the faeries a little weird and claim its a different song?
What is the difference between a reel and a horn pipe?
They're both 4/4, but the hornpipe stresses the first and third beats more strongly than the reel.
Michael Sommers thank you!
