    I have been playing mediocre guitar for fifty + years. Last year I started many of your fiddle lessons and converting them to flatpick guitar. Cold Frosty Morning has always been on my list of tunes to learn and this lesson is excellent for guitar pickers as wells as fiddle players. I cannot play a flatpick guitar as fast as you do with many of your tunes on fiddle, but hitting the little youtube spoke down to 75% has enabled me to get your Swallowtail Jig, Morrison's, Tamliin, and a couple others into my limited repertoire. That and forcing me to read music as opposed to guitar tab. Hopefully it will expand before I kick the dirt. Thanks for the inspiration!

    My Covid stay at home hobby evolved into learning the violin. Your videos are fantastic. I am either going to donate alot of money to your website if I actually learn to play (anything) or send you the 1928 Milano I bought from violin maker Walter Stopka if I don't. I finally put Evah Pirazzi Green strings on it. It is a magnificent instrument and rings like cathedral bells. You are improving the mental health of alot of people in this crisis. Thank you.

    Well done Katy. Such a pretty tune and like I've said before, you have a real teaching gift. The split screen format works very well and the progression is spot on … that old "you gotta learn to walk before you can run." Hope the snow holds off a bit so you can run your errands.

    Brilliant format, lovely tune. I really like it as a relatively slow air- so wistful and expressive, but the way you have built it up really gets it into one's head. I've never seen/heard teaching by ear done better. Thank you so much.

    I use a CodaBow also, mine is the Diamond NX. Maybe I will try to get a Luma for my daughter and myself. She is 27 and is learning the violin as am I. I sent her a very nice violin for last Christmas 🎄. Bought it at the FiddlerShop in South Florida. Very nicely made with oil varnish. All handmade.

    Nice video but i would suggest you to record with the camera above from a different angle like they do in the Fiddlevideo channel. I think it' s better when you give the same pov of the player. Great work and keep going

    Very nicely done Katy.
    The C# added seems to give the song an oriental flavor.
    You must be in a studio, because you keep looking up over your shoulder to check the clock.
    I like the forward facing of the Violin to the Camera because it makes the fingering easier to see.
    Is the repeat called a double repeat because of dots on both sides of the bar?
    The scrolling line helps to see how to follow the notes on the sheet music and how the repeat works.

    • @KatyAdelson
      @KatyAdelson  4 роки тому

      I was always checking the camera to make sure both cameras were recording. They tend to run out of battery / SD Card space, and also turn off after 30 minutes of recording lol. I also was trying to make sure I wasn't wiggling around too much and moving my hand out of the camera frame -- It's hard for me to sit that still for an hour, haha... :P It used to be that people couldn't see me doing that, but now that I have the two cameras, that kind of stuff becomes more apparent... :/
      Repeats are usually just called repeats, and are indicated by the two dots next to a bold measure line... I just stink at talking... :/ I don't even know what I meant by saying "double repeat" lol -- Sorry! :o

    👏 Hi Katy - Thank you for the sheet music. The song it rather long, but it can be truncated by not doing the repeats. It'll make for a nice addition for not only my fiddle, but also for my concertina, harmonica and Irish tin whistle. 😖 ♫
    BTW: Am I correct in assuming that the song is in E minor, and not its relative G major, because of its melancholy sound and the song itself begins on an E note? I see the word "cheerfully" on the upper left hand side of the sheet music, but the song sure sounds melancholy giving it that sad minor key feel especially at the slower tempos. 😢
    Happy Holidays! 😊 🎻 ♫

    • @GunnarSalyer
      @GunnarSalyer 4 роки тому

      The tune is in A minor, the "cheerfully" on the music refers to the tempo and "bounce" to give the tune

    • @KatyAdelson
      @KatyAdelson  4 роки тому +2

      It's in A dorain, which is one sharp (F#) more than A minor. I might make a video about ways to identify all those other "weird modes" - dorian, mixolydian, etc., and what they mean. Dorian keys still sounds pretty minor, but not as minor as a pure minor key. I put "cheerfully" hoping to indicate an upbeat tempo -- altho the tune has a minor-ish key signature, it isn't played solemnly, and I don't get a lot of "sad vibes" from the tune... But you are right that it is a little confusing... I'm not sure what other word I could use to describe the vibe I was going for... :/ If you have ideas, please let me know! =)

    • @christophertsiliacos8958
      @christophertsiliacos8958 4 роки тому +1

      @@KatyAdelson Thank you Katy. All those "weird modes" are way above my pay grade. When it comes to key signatures, I'm only familiar with the major keys and their relative minors. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to tens of thousands of your loyal subscribers. Happy fiddling, and happy holidays! 😊 🎻 ♫
